The other reviewers here were lucky…
The other reviewers here were lucky enough to not have received their books packed by whoever packed mine so poorly using cut up strips of styrofoam. When I opened my parcel, there were tiny bits of styrofoam microplastics all over the inside of the parcel and all over the book cover and even inside the book, stuck by the static electricity created by the styrofoam. I had to throw out the protective transparent cover which was part of the book description because I couldn’t remove all the bits. It took me a considerable amount of time to hoover up all the tiny bits from the book, the inside of the box and from my floor. A child would have had more sense in packaging an important book. To add further insult, after emailing Setanta Books to complain about the very poor packaging, I received no reply. After I emailed again later to say that I deserved a reply, I received this reply from Keith: “It's hard to know what to reply to your message”, saying that the styrofoam was being thrown away, and then saying “Sorry it got crushed so much, that is down to Royal Mail though as we only pack the books.” It was obvious from the package that it did not get crushed by Royal Mail and that Royal Mail had absolutely nothing to do with the poor decision of the usage of styrofoam cut-offs. I replied to him as such, saying “The fact that you weren’t able to reply with an apology, but only to say sorry that Royal Mail caused the problem is indicative of your poor customer care.” I would never consider purchasing from Setanta Books again and I’m sorry that I ordered from them based on all of the excellent reviews here.
Update 20/4/26 - after reading the reply which I have just received, I wish to add that I was very happy until I opened their parcel requiring removal of styrofoam microplastic bits from the entire book, my floor and myself due to their unthoughtful packaging material which they admitted had been thrown away. And I would have been made happy if they had given me the respect of an apology for their own misjudgement of passing on to me material that had been thrown away and should have stayed in their rubbish bin without me then having to put it in mine. The book was in the condition described on their website except for being covered with styrofoam bits outside and within the covers. Adding styrofoam pieces to their box was not what made my book arrive in the excellent condition described on the website. It would have arrived in perfect condition in a normal cardboard box with a recyclable sheet of paper wrapped around the book. Then I wouldn’t have had to throw out the protective plastic cover, which was part of the book description, because of all the tiny bits of plastic which were stuck all over it by static electricity. The reply that I just received making judgements about my happiness as a person is very rude and is further proof of very poor customer care. Maybe he is the one who isn’t a happy person.

All round excellent experience. The item I bought - a signed first edition photography book was priced very reasonably, arrived in a couple of days and was packaged really very well too. My communication with the shop was friendly and helpful. I'd recommend them to everyone.

Book Lost, Abysmal Support
Lost the book and had no idea they lost it. Had to wait 3 months to find that out. Customer support got defensive and blamed everyone else but themselves.
Spoke to someone named Sofia Krysiak. Felt like Sofia didn't have any training on how to communicate with customers. At some point they started writing in caps. It was a sight to behold.
Avoid at all costs.

This Golden Mile
Superfast delivery of ‘This Golden Mile Special Edition’ by Kavi Pujara. The book arrived only one day after ordening from Belgium. And what a joy the book is: the layout, the size of the pictures, the vibrant colours, the proud street-models of Leicesters Indian community.

This book store is incredible
This book store is incredible. I recently ordered a signed copy of the new Brian Eno’s 25th anniversary diary. It was a book I had a hard time finding in the US but Setanta Books got a copy. After I ordered it I figured it will arrive in a month or so due to Covid restrictions. I was quite shocked when it got here within a week in a mint shape. My local mail takes weeks to get here nowadays so this fast service from the UK is something that needs to be mentioned.
Highly recommend this bookstore and hope to visit in person someday.
Thanks all!
My first experience with Setanta
I ordered a book from Setanta and it was really sent fast with a little mail to tell me that due to COVID-19, the delays could be more than expected, and I really liked that it was a true person behind this mail and not just automatic stuff.
Ordered from the UK to France and I had two postcards with some little surprises and that was really nice !
these people are doing a great job.
Good books, good contact, and voilà :)
Excellent Service
They weren’t able to fulfil my order but I got a very prompt refund with a polite note apologising at nearly 10pm.
That’s how you do customer service!
From the UK to Chile...
I ordered a book that I could not get anywhere locally to be shipped to Chile. They promptly got in touch with me about shipping options and then promptly shipped it out. The book was well packed. Great job overall and nice people.
