Don't give your account # !

I stopped the "verification process" because it felt weird by how strongly "Anthony" was selling it. Turns out according to my electric company as soon as you give them your account # they have you hooked and within 3 days they will notify your provider to change the supplier whether you finish the process or not.

This is a scam

This is a scam. I did not sign their papers but their rep forged my signature to transfer my electricity and gas to their company and charged me twice the usual price. I've reported them to the consumer court.

When they come to your house

When they come to your house, they make it seem like they are from your local utility company. He said they are checking all the houses in the area and it's a program through Comed and Northshore gas. He said they sent out a letter about it to make it sound like they are supposed to be there. The moment I knew this was a salesman was when he said they need me to confirm something through a phone call/text after he called someone. Ugh, I'll never get those 10 minutes back, and I regret giving out my utility account information to a stranger. Very deceptive how they introduce themselves.

I just received a bill from Peco

I just received a bill from Peco. In it, I was informed I had switched electric suppliers. I NEVER DID THIS. When I called Peco, they said Residents Energy took over my account. Let me be perfectly clear: It's been over 10 years since I spoke to anyone about electricity, period. No salesman came to my door. No salesman contacted me by phone. This is a complete surprise. Obviously, someone who works for Residents Energy stole my Peco account number, and possibly my Social Security number too. I tried to call Resident's Energy, but a recording told me to call back tomorrow. This is clearly a scam - a way to collect their cancelation fee. Regardless of what Residents Energy says or does tomorrow in response to my complaint, I also plan to report them to my State Attorney General. In my opinion, Residents Energy is a criminal outfit of the first order, and their customer recruiting practices need to be investigated.

SCAM!

SCAM!! Thieves and robbers. I’ve had Atlantic City electric for 10 years!!! And my bill has NEVER been over $90!! I just canceled 2 weeks ago because I noticed my bill was doubling. With the latest bill being $339!! I should have known something was wrong with the way the sales person looked. She looked like they picked her up off the street! Sweating and looking slovenly. I’m PRAYING that I don’t see their name on my next bill. I’m calling my electric company tomorrow to see if there’s anything I can do. Never doing any doors sales EVER again.

Biggest scam

Biggest scam. I never signed up after I listened to the guy at stop n shop pitch. But they signed me up. My bill has tripled. I’m filing report with attorney general tomorrow. Resident energy claims two cycles to end service. They messed up my billing cycle so I just got 5 bills at once !!! National Grid not helpful.

If I could get negative Stars I would

If I could get negative Stars I would. I was sitting on my sofa one afternoon watching television and a small knock came on my door. It was a nice day so I had my door slightly cracked. Next thing I know someone's pushing it open. I grabbed my weapon and slowly approached the door and it turns out it was a Residence Energy sales person. Very young guy looks to be 18 or so. I was like "what are you doing pushing my door open, I almost was about to hurt you", and he said "it was open I was checking it". I asked him what he wanted and he says, "I'm going to get you a better rate on your gas bill." He wanted to see my consumers bill and I got that and he goes oh yeah I can save you at least half this price. He proceeded to take my phone number so that I can read over the contract once I got the text message. Went inside and grabbed my phone and before I could read anything on what he was trying to sell he started clicking the check boxes on my phone's screen saying that "all I needed was to check this one this one and this one and I would be all set". I said "I want to read it first I don't know what I'm getting into", he said he didn't have time that he needed to meet up with his coworker which was way down the road several houses away. So I told him to leave because I wasn't going to sign up for anything because he was practically forcing me to and I didn't have enough time to read anything on this company. He still has my energy bill, never got it back from him. This company has very bad sales tactics, and quite frankly dangerous because if I hadn't been so cautious approaching the door that someone was opening at my own house could have ended very badly for him. I called the customer service to make this complaint and they want me to call back tomorrow to make sure that he didn't sign me up without my permission.

This place is a scam

This place is a scam. We had two young boys trespass into our locked closed off apartment complex and start knocking on doors saying they were from DTE and they were there to check the meters and needed to see our bills to compare the rates (THIS IS FRAUD THEY CAN NOT SAY THEY ARE FROM ANOTHER ENERGY SERVICE). They quickly grab your phone and start signing you up to switch to this Resident Energy company. Luckily I caught on and called the police which they quickly scattered afterwards.

Here is what to do if you find yourself caught in the scam:

1. Call your current provider ASAP and tell them to freeze your account. My service provider tried to tell me they couldn't do anything until the next billing cycle but insist of freezing the account, this will ensure the transfer to this Resident Energy will not go through.

2. Call the Resident Energy company and tell them to cancel your contract. Ask for a confirmation number; even if you cancel pre-transfer they can provide a cancellation number.

If you don't realize the scam until later make sure to go to step 2 and CANCEL ASAP and work on switching back to your other provider.

Make a complaint with your state, I live in Michigan so go to michigan.gov for consumer complaint, and file a complaint. Since the boy claimed he was from DTE this is fraud, even if he was wearing his "badge" saying he was with Resident Energy company.

Had a guy come to our door 15 minutes ago - Weird sales pitch and something hit me before I finished the verification process and I checked trust pilot!

Looks like I dodged a bullet! If they try and sign me up (as others have claimed) then it is certainly a forgery and I will be contacting the police.

Unethical & Illegal

An individual dressed in a uniform and safety vest came to my door claiming he was from my utility company, and asked to see my energy bill. He made some vague claim that due to new updates, our existing energy bill could be reduced. Naively, I gave him my account number. He then proceeded to give some sales pitch that made me suspicious, even more so when he pulled out a contract for me to sign. At this point, I politely declined to sign the contract and sent him on his way.

I later called my utility company to double-check that everything in my account was okay, and found out that the salesperson had FORGED my signature and signed me up for Resident's Energy anyway! I then had to call Residents Energy to cancel my account (that was made without my consent or authorization), and was given a sales pitch by the customer service agent - that the 6 month "contract" I was signed up for was a great deal. It took me over an hour on the phone to try and resolve this issue, and despite managing to cancel my account with them, this company now still has my personal and account information.

SCAM

SCAM! SCAM! SCAM! Came to my door on Friday afternoon stating they would save me money on my electric and gas bills. Stupidly, I signed up. Right after the representative left I decided to look into the company. Read numerous negative reviews and called the company right away to cancel. The rep on the phone saiid my info was not in the system yet, so he could not help me. I called again on Monday and went through the cancellation process very smoothly. So overall, I was signed up with them for about 3 days. I just looked over my gas bill and it seems like nothing extra was charged. But on my electric bill Residents Energy changed me $100! $100 for 3 days!!! BEWARE!!!

They are very deceitful and lie to you…

They are very deceitful and lie to you they promised much lower energy costs that the company can provide. I just canceled them because they are 3x the cost of National Grid..
National Grid is terminating them as my supplier and will begin supplying me.
This whole thing with pick your own provider to save money is ridiculous . How can a secondary company supply energy cheaper than the Utility??
Don't fall for false statements, promises of cheaper utility bills and certainly tell them to keep there gift card

It's not a scam, but probably not what you want.

TLDR: They are a legit company, working closely with bigger energy companies, but if you switched over with the expectation of price drop or true renewable/green energy, you WILL be disappointed.

This recently happened to me so its fresh. And I wanted to share the process, maybe update along the way. I received a phone call asking if I would be interested in changing over to clean energy, me being the earth loving person I am, I said sure. They mentioned my rates may go up, and I didn't mind, given I was under the impression that this would be better for the environment. Two individuals eventually showed up and asked to confirm that I was willing to switch, given I had just received that phone call not that long ago, I was more apt to trusting them, and provided needed information. I was originally under the impression that I would be staying with my current energy provider with a small adjustment but they clarified that. Still seemed a bit off to me so I did the typical web search to make sure they were legit... found these reviews ... sigh... then called my current energy provider to make sure Residents Energy was legitimate. My current energy company confirmed Residents Energy were a legitimate "competitor" to some extent. When it comes to legitimacy and customer service, I have no complaints about Residents Energy. They told me their pitch, I accepted said pitch, they took the steps to switch me over. Not really anything "scammy" about that in my opinion.

Here's where my problem is, I had a misunderstanding of what renewable/clean energy was. After doing a little research, I don't think it's as clean as I thought originally and definitely not worth the price jump for the slight positive environmental impact. I will be stopping my services because of that. I'll update about the cancellation process.

Residents/Comed

The only thing I can think other than BBB is these cases through appropriate chains through Com Ed. These guys allow them thier power by letting them supply thier energy. They would be like a accomplice but who else we got? For us here it is just com ed the rest are still them just labeled suppliers are still them. What they did is wrong during the pandemic.

Residents Energy - How is this Criminal Scam Allowed?

I do not know how this business is allowed to operate.
Yesterday, two individuals claiming to be affiliated with National Grid requested to see my recent electric bill to check the Supply section of my bill, in order to explain how I may have been overcharged for usage and to explain this to me on the bill.

After stating that they were with National Grid and displaying documents with National Grid’s logo on it, I (unfortunately) showed them a recent bill on my cell phone, believing them to be legitimate representatives of National Grid who were performing a legitimate job, since they managed to enter my locked apartment complex. They began saving my personal information on an app on their cell phone, including my National Grid account number.

I asked again who they were after realizing that this behavior of saving my personal information was unwarranted and inappropriate to their stated reason for knocking on my door, and they responded stating this time that they were with "Residents Energy." They proceeded to request my phone number, my email address, and my birthday.

After realizing that I was being lied to, I declined to provide my valid email, birthday and phone and closed the door.

Afterwords, I read about Residents Energy online and learned of their deceitful methods to trick unwitting customers into switching to their much higher energy service by stealing personal information. I therefore believe that their intention was to change my electric provider to their own service by impersonating National Grid to collect my personal information in order to gain access to my provider's account.

They lied about their intentions and they impersonated National Grid employees, so I really do not know how this sort of behavior is allowed. This should be grounds for civil and/or criminal investigation.
