Reply from Planters Garden Centre
Went for breakfast and it completely blew their mind when I asked for a vegetarian big breakfast . I ended up with an extra egg and mushrooms . It’s the principle that they don’t offer a veggie option that is the reason I gave them 3 stars . My husband had the meat option and the meat was over cooked . Defo won’t be going to eat there again . On the plus side the garden centre part is well stocked with an array plants and pots competitively priced . Inside the gift section is teeming with tempting items good quality some pricey but generally competitively priced . It is card only payment . It is not somewhere that I will be in a hurry to visit again .
Took our 2 Granddaughters to visit Santa £35 each at Planters Tamworth as we had the previous 2 years but never again Santa was a joke he did ask the first child her name and what she wanted for Christmas then gave her a bell to ring
and smile for camera then
ushered out to pick a toy my next Granddaughter sat down he said
smile for the camera he rang the bell
and we were ushered out, he never
so much as asked her name or what
she was asking Santa for etc it was so bad
we just looked at each other, talk about spoiling the magic, we were gutted this had been spoilt as theres no going back to make it right for the children.
Once outside i spoke to Gerald or Gerrard the guy who actually owns the place but he acted very vague clearly he didn't
realise i knew who he was, i was
eventually given a business card and
told to email Josh which i did but
didn't even get a reply so Planters Tamworth we will not be putting our money your way again and i know for a fact we are not the only ones.
the garden centre on the chester road is streetly is a lovely place to visit, but why is it card only payment.
are all planters outlets like this?
Attended one of their entertainment & dinner events couple evenings ago.the entertainment was first class,The D-day Darlings. My complaint lies with the dinner. The turkey dinner we had chosen, looked like slop on the plate.Sprouts hard as bullets.mushy cauliflower cheese mash (I think thats what it was), one roast potato. The turkey was ok. but what slop it looked on the plate. No, didnt think it was up to standard.Next booking will be one of the afternoon tea events, much better if i remember the last one we had. The staff btw did a splendid job serving huge number of people. Very helpful and pleasant
We booked at Planters Garden Centre Tamworth to attend the
‘Santa’s Tea Time Party’
We were a party of 6, 3 adults and 3 children (all age 4)
When we arrived we were taken to a back section, so weren’t in the main restaurant part. We thought maybe this was just the section for Santa, however quickly realised that actually there were tables dotted all round the restaurant which was part of it and got some reason ourselves plus 2 other tables of small children were shoved in the spillover section. May I also note we booked this back in October so I doubt we were late bookers.
Our children including the two tables near us waited an hour and half to see Santa, to the point that one of the tables left without seeing him. We were actually the last table to be seen and he was with us about 30 seconds, whereas he was with all the other tables much much longer!
It was as if he just wanted to go home, and to be honest so did we!
Recommendations:-
Firstly limit the number of tickets sold, you clearly over booked- hence why we were shoved out in the corner somewhere.
Secondly, close the restaurant when doing an event like this. We presumed it would be a similar set up to when you have the singers there. All in the main part and that Santa would just we wandering round the tables having general chit chat - like Mrs Clause.
There were lots of family’s sneaking in and sitting on tables who then got to see Santa, but hadn’t paid or booked to see him.
Thirdly, ask the child’s ages when booking and I’d suggest then sitting them at tables in ages order.
The poor little girl on the table next to us was only around 2 years old and she was second to last being seen.
Lastly, there is no need for so many elves going round talking to the tables, I understand it was probably to ease the fact we were waiting so long but the children were asked 5 times in the end what the had asked off Santa for Christmas.
The food was lovely on a positive and that came out so fast- maybe too fast because the children had finished their dinners and were getting impatient. However this was probably more down to that fact we had to wait so long to see Santa.
We were disappointed to say the least, and unless changes are made I would not recommend wasting your money or time on this.
Lack of staff interest when asking to have table cleared from previous guests.
Waste food on floor , lots of choices removed from the menu .
Gone down since Simon left.
I took my Mom and Auntie for afternoon tea I asked a lovely staff member Annette where I needed to go as I’d not been there before she took us to our table and brought out tea, coffee and the afternoon tea stand with sandwiches and cakes galore all the time checking whether we needed anything and topping up the tea and coffee.
She made our afternoon feel special.
We had a great experience and would definitely return, thank you Annette.
I tried to book an afternoon tea that I received as a gift online only to find that I had been blocked by a system on their site. Poor way to conduct business, not sure I’ll bother, might just get a refund 😡
Needed a new pump for water feature. Dan in aquatics was amazing. Very helpful friendly and went above and beyond to help us.
Went to Tamworth planters today with my 83yr MIL. She had the vouchers they sent her. She went to the service desk where the women was on the phone and just thrust the vouchers at her, didn’t even look at my MIL. I get she was on the phone ,but she could have just said 1 moment please or turned to acknowledge she was there. My MIL hadn’t even said a word so wasn’t rushing her. The cafe staff are lovely, food ok a tad expensive but we knew that anyway. The staff at the pet section are plain rude . They are also feeding their reptiles the wrong foods and when approached to give them some ( ok unwanted) friendly advice she snapped my head off and walked off to another member of staff to ask if they could have the cabbage. Then proceeded to moan about me whilst I was still in ear shot… I’m slightly deaf so can lip read also, so she thought she was safe to complain about a customer who was right there. Then ignored me after I was stood waiting. Surely if a place is selling live animals they should give/sell proper husbandry practices as the customer purchasing the poor animal will not have the correct care sheet. It’s a disgrace. Planters please educate your staff and teach them some customer service manners. Surely you want what’s best for the animals you are selling.and it’s free to smile and be pleasant, your in a public role after all and your staff are the face of your business. Very disappointed
Booked a photo event at planters tamworth for my nearly 3 year old grandson to meet batman and photo on sunday 6th april. When we arrived we went to the store reception we were told the event had been cancelled no phone call no text just a pityfull sorry my grandson got very upset and couldn’t understand why.wont be booking anything to do with planter’s terrible customer service.
Have been a customer for over 30years and in that time had much pleasure and spent thousands:
Yesterday. 02/04/25 my experience was shockingly different:
I purchased on over 60's offer 1 bag of compost @£4
2 bags of compost @ 2 bags for £14
3 packets of seed.
We paid over £30 so went back to customer service, taking our purchases and receipt to query.
The customer services rep. just kept saying that the discount was at the end of the receipt, which I knew.
I said ignore discount, just look at the cost of 1 bag at £4 and 2 @ £14 total of £18.
She replied, "Listen to me". 4times I tried to repeat 1@ £4 and 2@£14 total £18.
People were looking and it was embarrassing. She went to the till lady and to me it looked as though I had tried to steal something. The till lady came and apologised and I said these things happed but I did not like being spoken to as though I am stupid. The rep. said I would not listen to he. At this my husband stepped in and asked her to count the bags of compost and at last she said she thought we had 4 bags and briefly said sorry and gave us a refund of £7-99p
We never have had previously and do not expect now to face such humiliating treatment.
Taking my elderly mother (87) out for a treat, we went to Nottingham Planters cafe (formerly Brookfields Garden Centre). My mistake was to expect the price of the food to match the price. £25 for 3 pancakes taken out of a packet and warmed up in a microwave with a little pot of syrup and out of season berries; a sausage sandwich made with catering standard Richmond sausages and two coffees. I couldn't quite believe the cheek of it. I wrote an email explaining how I didn't mind paying for quality but this was a joke. An insult. Have heard nothing. This is a warning to those of you who value the money you have, not to be taken in by this substandard cafe.
Not impressed with the aquatics, went to buy some fish but after having a good look I noticed at least 6 dead fish in various tanks and nobody seemed to have noticed or do anything about them , surely the persons looking after the area should check all tanks and do what needs doing.
Amazing afternoon in the tipi.
Loved every minute & every Elf made it fantastic atmosphere.
Had a beautiful Snow Leopard that we had to stuff , made a beautiful tree decoration & had a fantastic time. Albie (3yrs) loved it as much as we did.
Santa & Mother Christmas so fantastic and the Elves were magical especially Alf the Elf.
Would we go again, you bet we would.
However, not everyone can afford these experiences but well done Planters for the lovely Chrismas displays with the moving animations & the real Raindeers in the store truly magical & free.
Well done .
I have to visit this cafe every week through work , otherwise I wouldn’t go . Very expensive for very poor food . The milk has been off several times and I’ve had to send it back , the bread always dry so I have to order toast . The poached and fried eggs are always hard . The staff never smile or have a conversation, makes you feel like an in convenience
We have been using the Restaurant on a regular basis since it opened, service and food always been very good, however, the last three visits have been less than satisfactory, the wait for a sandwich, has taken 50 minutes, with no prior notification of any delay, the food Today was nothing short of disgusting, for the money we paid for lt. Karen our waitress was very apologetic and polite, when we raised our concerns, we most certainly will not be going again to use the Restaurant, extremely dissatisfied customers.
Can’t complain about the Garden centre, which is nice to look around and they have some nice things to purchase etc. however when myself and my husband went to have a coffee and maybe a spot of lunch, I was appalled by the kitchen staff and how they handled the food. I watched in amazement at one lady who was making a salad for someone. Grabbing her hands into the bowl and lifting the salad onto the plate with her bare hands!! Who would think that someone would like to eat a salad knowing that the staffs hands had been all over it. Further more she then cleaned down her station with what looked like a dirty cloth, then carried on scooping another load of salad onto another plate. (Without washing her hands). Needless to say I didn’t purchase a £12.99 salad that would have tasted of a dirty dish cloth. 🤦🏻♀️ please planters make your kitchen staff wear disposable gloves for Christ sake!!
Planters in Tamworth have a great variety of plants, furniture, food and gifts and that is not at fault. However, the staff are incompetent and know absolutely zero about customer service and the products the store have for sale. I asked a member of staff about a bench and asked if it could be delivered to my address and they told me it would be £20/30 my address is 4 miles from planters so i had to laugh at the quote. The assistant came back I was then told £10. When I asked if the bench came assembled they muttered that they did not know. I decided to have the bench until I reached the till to which 3 members of staff were there at the same till. The assistant on the till did not know how to put the bench through on the till so they asked another assistant who answered " well, I suppose I'll have to do it then".
I felt like I was causing them too much work and hassle ( i thought they were there to work).
I asked the 3 assistants if they knew if it came assembled and not one of them knew so, I decided not to go ahead with the sale.
Absolutely awful staff, they should be trained on how to deal with customers and know about the items that are for sale in the store or politely say " I am not sure about this, give me a moment and I will find out for you" but this was not the response i had.
Hence to say planters lost over £300 pound from myself.
Very, very disappointed by the overall experience. I suggest you put some staff training in place.
