Would give negative stars if I could

Would give negative stars if I could. I am supporting someone who employs Penderels Trust as the payroll manager. A particular matter with HMRC has dragged on for several years, partly because of Penderels communication failures. Complaints to Penderels have been apparently "thoroughly" investigated, but they have kept missing the emails/calls they didn't respond to. The CEO claims to have investigated the matter by consulting correspondence over the PAST TWO MONTHS claiming they don't retain correspondence beyond 2 years. Somehow, though, other staff managed to put together a timeline of correspondence dating back to 2018. These "investigations" are clear cover-ups. The communication is appalling (no one answers phone calls or emails, payslips are shockingly late and at times even missed unless you are on the case, some staff are very rude, lots of mistakes,...), which is shocking since they deal with vulnerable people. Even the CEO is only interested in covering up Penderels failures. I am utterly shocked and disappointed by the CEO's response. He has not bothered to do anything. Would not touch them. Be very careful. The other reviews say it all.

Update (07 April): Contrary to the response, the CEO is refusing the matter further unless THE CLIENTS send him emails his staff sent/didn't respond to. He should have these as many of them formed the basis of a timeline his staff made. He is also refusing to send the policy which confirms how long Penderels Trust holds information for (it is not on the website when it should be) as required by Data Protection regulations.

Update (8 April): Privacy policies cannot be found when using Google Chrome. Was finally able to open when using Microsoft Edge. This should be made clear on the webpage. The policy only says that Penderels will keep data for as long as the law requires. What is this? CEO and a senior manager have told us different things.

Update (9 April): Thank you for informing me that it works on Google Chrome. I've just tried it again from my phone. No download button visible. Please let me know where I can send the screenshot.

I am sorry you feel that Penderels Trust are not responding to this issue appropriately but we are aware of this matter and it is part of an ongoing investigation. Our data protection policies are on the website (www.penderelstrust.org.uk/dataprotection.php), you can view and download them. This does work on Google Chrome, I have just checked. The relevant policy in this case includes a statement on keeping data. The law varies depending on the subjects (e.g. for children it is longer). This non-specific approach is commonly used in privacy policies and acceptable rather than writing a list of different law requirements. Thank you.

I'm a PA

I'm a PA. I have to invoice Penderels for my mileage as it's been agreed the person I'm PA to will reimburse me at 45p/mile. I'm self employed and have been for 3.1/2 years - nothing has changed other than Penderels paying (or not as the case is). Well thankfully my wages aren't paid by Penderels as I never know when I will receive my money. In the past they've always paid within 14 days, now I'm being told it's 28 days...I invoice every 4 weeks meaning I am paying out for 8 weeks before being paid for 4 weeks! I'm NOT a charity. This will impact on the gentleman I support because I cannot outlay 8 weeks mileage costs. Why should I? Low paid job and companies taking the mickey out of paying low paid, hard working people. Gentleman I support has no-one else - he relies on me and non-payment is seriously impacting me wanting to continue. Low pay when paid, no holidays as I can't employ anyone to cover, hassle, no regular hours as I'm constantly being contacted about work - I literally run 2 houses. Penderels attitude to this is a complete, uncaring, joke.

Hello and thank you for your review. If you are invoicing for mileage, I am assuming you work on a self-employed basis. We pay invoices within 30 days of receipt. I appreciate that if this has changed recently for you (eg if your employer has moved from another support service) there may be a bigger gap for the first payment but after that it will be every four weeks if you invoice every four weeks. I don't know your personal circumstances but you should take holidays and have time off, I appreciate this might not be easy if someone is relying on you. Sheriff of Nottingham stealing from the poor and vulnerable.
Unfortunately this company is one of the most incompetent companies I have ever dealt with do not give this company any information or any power over you and definitely don't trust them to deal with your money or your relatives money, they are terrible they just tell lies to you and treat you like a fool. I am my brothers Lasting Power of Attorney I have an active LPA they don't respect it at all, most of the staff members don't even know what one is they will not relinquish the appointeeship but they lie saying they will then ignore your calls and Email I have never known a company so difficult to deal with. All they have to do is write a letter to the DWP to relinquish the appointeeship so I can take it over the DWP are waiting for a letter but they just will not do it. Pendlestrust want to keep hold of money as long as possible. Pendlestrust wanted my private information from me, I never signed up to give my private information away they want my bills my brother lives with me. it's to do with my brother not me I am a free person but they seem to treat people like they have no rights or power
I feel sorry for the people that this company has gotten hold of their money because there's not much chance to get it back unless they get a solicitor. Don't believe anything these people say their full of lies get yourself a nice solicitor and get your money out of these people's hands.
I almost ended up homeless because the rent was not being paid, and the bills are still not being paid because I refuse to give my information to these people. Stand your ground get a solicitor. They refused to buy my brother a coat at the start of winter until they found out he had me in his corner and I had an LPA on his health and finances. If I could give a zero star review I would if you can stay away from this company then run to the hills and run for your life. Pendlestrust say they will make the disabled persons life easier and safer they just make life more difficult and are causing stress to everyone don't let them rob you of your freedom and rights. Get a solicitor ASAP.

Do not touch these people with a bargepole!
Shame on you.......this company is suppose to care and support the vulnerable in need....all they do is support themselves.....I'm sure we will be seeing penderels on TV soon as lifeways trust are at the moment and that would be a good job show you up for what you are!!

Don't believe anything they say

Don't believe anything they say!
Following my review on 11th Feb '25 and their subsequent reply - DON'T BELIEVE A WORD THEY SAY!
You will see from their response on 12th Feb '25 that they say the the refund I was due was "being paid to you this week". It's now 28th Feb '25 and I'm still waiting!
Also, I finished my employment in Oct '24 and I'm still awaiting my P45. I have contacted HMRC to make them aware that it's still outstanding.

Runaway don’t walk these guys are thieves

They visited my father without letting me know, he has dementia and lives in a care home. They gave him a piece of paper with a phone number to Dial saying press option 2 option 1 so that he could spend £1300 a year on them managing his finances. This is something that is completely not needed and a complete rip off. Have a look at my Google reviews. I only give five stars because I only want to review things that are really good and people should know. However if something is dangerous, I will review them and if there were minor stars to give to this organisation I would give them. I’ve phoned Penderels up several times, emailed them several times, and I have just received evasive answers. They are just trying to rip off my father like everybody else in the past do not trust them. Do not deal with them.

They don’t pay

They don’t pay. I am currently owed 2 months of invoices. You are putting peoples care at risk. I’m currently unable to go to work as I’m not knowing if I’m actually going to be paid for my work. This isn’t fair on the client or the PA. Sort this out pendrels, other companies have no issues.

I had to leave, I couldn't cope.

I was with Penderels Trust for 8 years, putting up with many errors as have a busy family life and being a carer. Penderels have failed to process timesheets twice at crucial times when my PAs needed to be paid, meaning in month 3 I finally had the correct amount to pay. When I closed my account, I received another HMRC invoice which was already paid 2 months prior. Need I say anymore, other than, that this company is incompetent and they need a full investigation via ombudsman. Thankfully I have peace now since leaving Penderels, which is what respite is meant to be a time of self-preservation for oneself.

They work with their close friends and corrupt neighbours Birmingham City Council to take appointeeship of elderly people with a referral from a social worker if there is no family member or if there is they will be acussed of financially abusing that person with no proof needed to the DWP and Penderels trust. They don't even pay the invoices. To the council. Took 4 months to get them relinquished they then charged £100.00 for closing the account.? In the meantime they applied for court of protection which would give them access to all that person's finances and properties and took another £1125. from the state pension for solicitors and court fees which was supposed to pay the contributions. The letter from solicitor went to a fake address.
And when Birmingham City Council want to increase the fees they conviently divert the invoices back to Penderels.. Who then can't send them out via email..? Supposed to be a charity I don't think so.. I was not informed about the appointeeship and as for the court of protection application.. I found this out by being informed from the care home staff that a solicitor went to visit my father. When I contacted the solicitor they'd been given a fake address that's why I didn't get informed. Even though Penderels trust were fully aware of myself and my power of attorney. Spoke to the so called independent living advisor on a number of occasions.. A very convenient error of address then after they'd had my power of attorney investigated. Which concluded that Penderels trust need to be relinquished. And they were fully aware of myself and my address since 2019.

All our appointeeship cases are via professional referral from a social worker. We have strict processes that we follow for managing this money and are accountable to the local authority and DWP as a Corporate Appointee. Known family members are always informed where there is an application for Court of Protection. We do not know of a 'fake address' and certainly wouldn't have provided incorrect information deliberately. We believe in this case the social worker had the incorrect address in error. Thank you.

Absolute rubbish company!

Sent in timesheets before due date, no monies paid in! Impossible to contact! This has happened many many times, I've had to pay my carers overdraft as money never goes in on time! Every month it's like groundhog day! No phones answered, no reply to emails! What kind of company is this? Since the day they took over, nearly every month has been a non payment for my carers! One has now resigned! Never get an answer to why this happens, Russian roulette every month to see if the carers get paid or not! They don't deserve the one star, but doesn't let you not rate!

Can't speak to payroll

Worked via this company for 3 months , this month's pay not gone in my account. My boss is on holiday so trying to sort this out myself.
Nobody in payroll answers the phone , phoned 5 times left 2 voice messages , left email no reply , who do I turn to ,where are my wages ? Owed over £500

Do Not Trust

This terrible company have caused my husband and myself no end of problems over the years and when we have tried to contact them no one ever gets back to you. We both told them we were moving our managed accounts but they are withholding £8000 of my husband’s PHB that he needs urgently to buy a new wheelchair with. They have been told by our new provider and the NHS continuing healthcare team to immediately send the money over but as yet they have not done so. After reading all these reviews I am concerned that the company is going bust and that’s why they are not paying invoices, PAs, etc. It’s bad enough having illnesses and disabilities without all this extra stress so please listen to all these other reviewers and avoid them.

I have checked your case and can confirm that all checks have now been completed and the funds will be transferred early next week. I can appreciate the frustration at the delay and I apologise for the impact this has had on your family but we do need to follow procedure when transferring funds. I do think, on this occasion, it may have taken longer than it should have done. We are not going bust. Our work is funded by local authority and NHS contracts. We support nearly 15,000 people and on occasion things do go wrong which they write about on sites like this one. Thank you.

This company has gone downhill fast in…

This company has gone downhill fast in the 6 years my daughter has been with them. Never get an answer from emails. No one answers the phones. They set up a new payroll system and despite being very strict about timesheets having to arrive before 9am on a Monday morning (ridiculous) can’t ever upload payslips on time. I am going to be changing provider. This shower of clowns don’t deserve to manage PHB accounts.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry you have been having issues getting through to our payroll team. I will pass your review onto the manager of the service. Timesheets for most payroll customers need to be in by 1 p.m. on the Monday, not 9 a.m. If you have been given specific instructions on this, please continue to follow them. We process payroll the week after the pay cycle ends rather than doing predictive hours that some companies do (and then need to correct it in the following pay cycle e.g. if the employee was off sick) but this does mean we need it in quickly to give time for this. Useless

I should have looked at the reviews here before attempting to use this company’s payroll service. I say attempting, as they are impossible to contact and do not respond to voice mails or emails. We stand to loose an excellent PA for our disabled son as we have been unable to pay her properly for over 2 months. Avoid like the plague and find yourself a nice family run payroll service that values their customers.

Hi David, thank you for your review and I am sorry you have had issues getting payroll started. For new employers, we have to apply to HMRC for a PAYE reference number and these are taking several weeks to come through due to a back log at their end. This affects all payroll providers, not just Penderels Trust. We have reviewed our processes though to make sure that people who are waiting like yourselves, know what is happening and are kept updated. I appreciate that it is very frustrating not to be able to start your PA or pay her properly; we have had discussions with our contact at HMRC but this is beyond our control. So do not go this company's…

So do not go this company's warwickshire appointeeships.
So my partner emailed them on the 18th July 2024 no email back. And my partner had a text message today from my dad's Vodafone account saying he need to contact bpo collections. So we checked it Vodafone account and he's in debt. So that's that's twice they've put him in to debt.

Do not use

I have recently nominated this trust. I have left messages. No one rings back. I have sent the forms back regarding PA. No response. Notts county council had them on their list of providers. I will be making a formal complaint to them.

I have investigated this and although we have no one of your name on our records, we have an E Byrne. If this is you, we have applied to HMRC for the PAYE reference number for you as a new employer. Terrible service over 10 years using…

Terrible service over 10 years using this company it has gone terribly down hill missing wages every other month. When you try to contact them on any of their services there is no answer. This is forcing me as an employer to only pay 70% of the wages my employees should be getting. STAY WELL AWAY if you want any sort of communication this is not the company you want to use for your payroll. Also had the audacity to try blame me for several of the missing wages. This time 2 of 5 payee sheets have come through but they haven't bothered with the rest so they not only don't pay but they also lose sensitive documents and don't answer or blame yourself if they are not there, it's never there fault.

Hi Reece, thank you for taking the time to complete a review. I am sorry you have had issues with our payroll service. If there is an issue with the timesheet meaning we cannot process it, we advise the employee is paid 70% of their gross wages (this allows enough to be held back for tax/national insurance/pension) which is usually close to what their net pay should be. You should be able to get through on the telephone; sometimes when it is busy, you will be asked to leave a message and someone should call you back.
