Very disappointing experience with PayPal.

After more than six years of using PayPal, I recently faced a serious issue with multiple incoming business payments being placed under review. I was told the review would normally be completed within a specific time frame, but after waiting, the payments were still pending and support could not provide any clear resolution date.

The worst part is the lack of transparency. The funds were not released, no clear reason was provided, no specific documents were requested, and I was not given a proper option to cancel or return the payments. This left my business and client in a very difficult position.

Customer support was polite, but they were unable to solve the problem or give a meaningful update. For a business, this level of uncertainty around payments is unacceptable.

I use other payment platforms and have never experienced this kind of delay, confusion, and lack of control over business funds. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend PayPal for business payments where reliability, transparency, and cash flow matter.

Paypal service has declined and does not care about customer service

I have used Paypal for many years and have always believed them to be a safe way to pay for goods and give me some protection. Not any more :(
They no longer protect the buyer and just take the side of the scammer/seller whilst pretending to go through the dispsute/claim process.
They are difficult to contact, they don't accept you have a valid issue and hide behind AI/auto-responses before simply refusing your dispute and failing to refund. I paid for goods in good faith which never arrived; seller claimed they had been delivered but could not provide actual proof of delivery; Paypal sided with seller as "item was delivered". I am now trying to get my money back via chargeback with my bank. Paypal are charlatans and crooks - don't believe their 100% guarantee, its not worth a single penny and they certainly do not give a toss about their customers. Paypal always used to be my preferred method of payment - not any more

I authorised a payment of £1.99, then had more stolen. PayPal won't do anything

I authorised a payment of £1.99, the company then set up regular payments of £31.99 on my PayPal account without my authorisation. I reported the transaction and basically PayPal have said because I authorised the £1.99 they won't do anything about the fact I have had more stolen. It has been reported to the bank as fraud, they are being more helpful then PayPal. I won't be using PayPal anymore and will be shutting my account down.
They do nothing when scammers steal off you.

Seller protection failed!!!

I have been a PayPal customer for years, but this experience completely destroyed my confidence in PayPal's Seller Protection.

I sold an iPhone worth over $1,250. The buyer initiated a return, but instead of returning the phone, I received a thin envelope containing only folded blank paper. I submitted extensive evidence, including photographs, video of the package being opened, shipping label comparisons, the buyer's own photos showing the phone was originally delivered in a box, and documentation showing the return envelope was physically incapable of containing the iPhone that was sold.

Despite all of this, PayPal ruled in the buyer's favor based on the fact that a tracking number showed "something" was delivered to my address. Delivery confirmation is not proof that the merchandise was actually returned.

What concerns me most is that there is no indication my evidence was meaningfully evaluated. If a seller can provide clear documentation that an empty envelope was returned instead of the purchased item and still lose, then Seller Protection offers very little real protection. To make matters worse, PayPal also charged me a $15 dispute fee after I lost over $1,250.

Trust is PayPal's business model, yet this experience showed me that when a return fraud case becomes more complex than a tracking number, sellers may be left carrying the entire loss.

I will be moving my business elsewhere and sharing this experience with other online sellers so they understand the risks before relying on PayPal's Seller Protection. If PayPal cannot distinguish between "a package was delivered" and "the merchandise was actually returned," then its Seller Protection fails when sellers need it most.

Am I being scammed?

I have used PayPal for many years. In May they paid noDiet money that I had not asked them to pay. They issued a refund. The company insisted I had received 'goods'. I had not but PayPal refunded the refund. After a lengthy battle with noDiet, they told me they have refunded me via PayPal. The money has not yet appeared in my bank account, and I do not keep money in an account with PayPal. All PayPal can tell me is that I immediately spent the money again. This is untrue. The company insist they refunded me, my bank has never seen the refunds and I, a widowed, disabled, pensioner of 86, is being taken for a ride by noDiet or PayPal where it is impossible to speak to a human but who just repeat the cases are closed. Where do I go from here? A lawyer?

What a crap company

What a crap company , i made a complaint to them about a delivery of bare root trees that were dead on arrival. I started filling in an online complaint, when it got to the last text box to fill in , they logged me out ! This happened 4 times, obviously they have an Ai app running in the background killing off claims. So then i went to kill the Paypal App, but that is set up so you cannot, a popup appears stating "Before you close your account…
There's a pre-approved payment or subscription that needs to be cancelled first." Even though ive clsoed that issue with my bank !

PayPal does not care.

I receive my salary from Europe and get paid in Euros. I have been using Pappal for more than 10 months without issues, and suddenly today, 1 July 2026, my salary is on hold. I contacted PayPal to ask what is happening and communicated with an agent. This person essentially told me that I exceeded some limit and that the money would be on hold for 21 days. She really tried to help me, but PayPal seemingly has no empathy, no understanding and no mechanisms to assist their clients when their stupid policies get in the way of customer experience. All I got is "It is the company policy". They suck at customer service. Be very careful when considering using PayPal; there are other, more customer-friendly alternatives out there. Unfortunately, I have no choice as my employer only uses PayPal.

Buy by paypal a risk

Using PayPal through eBay is generally ok, however using it to buy something through another company can go wrong, I bought a expensive item via a plumbing company and there was a computer glitch either with PayPal or the plumbing company they could not cancel the sale because they had nothing to see, paypal would not cancel because they say that the seller must cancel so PayPal take the money for 30days in the mean time I either have to wait 30 days or take a chance and buy again, paying by cash therefore has some merit. I also need to mention it’s become a lot more difficult to contact a person on PayPal as they seem to be putting a lot of effort into the AI bot which generally does not help much,

Absolutely abysmal customer service

Absolutely abysmal customer service and a completely broken system. My PayPal card was working perfectly on my primary phone's Google Wallet, but wouldn't link to my secondary phone. I contacted support a few days ago, and they unhelpfully told me to just "wait." I waited, nothing changed, so I contacted them again today—only to be given the exact same unhelpful script to wait.
Since their team offered zero solutions, I tried troubleshooting myself and removed the card from my primary phone to see if it would let me activate it on the secondary one. It worked, but now the system has completely locked me out and refuses to let me re-add the card to my primary phone.
To make matters worse, I am currently stuck waiting on their live chat. The "estimated wait time" is a complete joke—it just bounces around from 2 minutes, to 3, to 1, then back up to 4 minutes while nobody responds. They have been entirely incompetent two days in a row, and their broken device provisioning completely ruined a setup that was originally working fine.

Funds Still Not Released After 180 Days

I am extremely disappointed with PayPal. My account was limited and PayPal’s policy says that funds may be held for 180 days before being eligible for release. However, even after more than 180 days, my money has still not been returned.

I contacted PayPal support, but they only told me that my account is still under review and they cannot provide any clear timeframe for when my funds will be released. This is unacceptable. A company should not be allowed to hold a customer’s money indefinitely without giving a clear reason or deadline.

From my experience, PayPal’s handling of limited accounts is unfair, unclear, and very stressful for users. It feels like customers have no real protection once their money is held.
I strongly advise other sellers and customers to be careful and consider using other payment providers instead of PayPal.

For me, this has been a very bad experience and I cannot recommend PayPal. 1 star.

Account Freeze for no reason

Out of nowhere and for no reason they freeze your account for no apparent reason and with no customer service or anybody to contact. This after being an active customer for years. Luckily there are better options nowadays, so hopefully they are building their own grave this way.
