MG Alencon has made us very unhappy
MG has made us very unhappy, disappointed and would be classed as the worst experience we have ever had when dealing with a car dealership.
We returned from a pleasant vacation and took our car to walk our dogs at the beginning of August 2025. The car caught fire and we had to have it towed to Alençon. We were not offered a rental car at first, even though we had a lease agreement. A car was provided three weeks later, after I checked our contract, but it did not have the same features as our car. The garage kept telling us that the car could be repaired, but we knew that was not the case. We then had to take out a new lease to get a new car, but a fine was added to the cost and it was much more expensive, even though the car fire was not our fault. We had to pay our monthly payments for the six months even though we didn't have the car we leased.
MG canceled our last contract, but another payment was subsequently taken. We were promised that it would be refunded, but we never saw that payment. A week after signing our new lease, the garage informed us that they couldn't repair the other car, but it was too late for us to back out. They should have given us another car instead.
After receiving our new car at the end of November, the new rental company asked us to pay two months' rent, which we had not been informed of after using the car for a month.
We had to go to the garage several times, which meant my husband had to take time off work, and most of these appointments turned out to be unnecessary.
The salesperson was very uncooperative after signing the new rental agreement, making up numerous excuses for not responding to my emails and for not processing our refund or explaining why we had to pay two months' rent from the first month. If this had been explained to us, we would not have had this problem. The salesperson also blamed everything on the language barrier, as we are English, but that was a very poor excuse for not helping us.
I feel really disappointed; we were charged money for no reason, as none of these problems were our fault. I recommend that people be wary of the salespeople at this store. The service is not good and they have completely lost our trust.
