My First Publication — Eight Weeks of Waiting for Nothing
Dalcassian Dynasty is my first publication, and this has been an extremely frustrating experience.
I purchased and received my proof copy and paid for Global Distribution. I then spent approximately eight weeks dealing with an ISBN-related issue. Lulu Support eventually uploaded the corrected file and instructed me to publish the corrected draft, which I did.
After following those instructions, the project became Version 2 and I was told I needed to purchase another proof copy before Global Distribution could continue.
I understand that Lulu has policies regarding revised versions, but this revision was necessary to address the existing issue—it was not because I decided to create a new edition. After waiting eight weeks, I expected the distribution process to continue, not to be sent back to a step I had already completed and asked to spend more money.
For my very first publication, this has been a disappointing experience. Lulu could improve by taking responsibility when corrections made through support trigger additional requirements and by providing a waiver or credit when customers have already purchased a proof.

For Global Distribution, each version of a book must go through the required review process, including a proof copy after changes are made to the files. When new files are uploaded for distribution, the project becomes a new version, and a new proof is required before that version can continue through the distribution process.
This is also a requirement of our distribution partners. They want authors to have the opportunity to review the updated book before the version is submitted for approval through their retail networks. This helps ensure that the files being distributed are the files the author has reviewed and approved.
We understand that, in this case, the file change was made to address an existing issue rather than to create a new edition. We appreciate your feedback about how this process could be clearer when support-related corrections are involved, and we are sorry for the additional frustration and expense this caused.

I like that you have guides I can look at to tell me how to do just about any of the process. This was my 1st time writing a book and you made it so easy to have it in print and at a great price. I got 1 copy in paperback and 1 copy hardback. The price is close enough that I recommend hardback so it will be a keepsake.

It's so easy to upload one's manuscript on your site. Although I get annoyed when the cover of the book and manuscript sometimes get rejected. I would recommend a more user friendly app that automatically corrects any such errors as they might occur.

It's easy to create your project on the website- very easy. But the delivery service has not been good- not sure if that's a LULU or FedEx issue, but I still haven't gotten my book, so I find it funny that I received an email from LULU that says I have received it. 🤷🏽♀️
