Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 1,115 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Shoppers frequently complained about exceptionally rude staff members and unhelpful customer service, often encountering long queues and dismissive attitudes at the checkouts. Consumers also struggled with poor product quality, experiencing damaged goods, missing items, and rotting fresh produce left on the shelves for too long. However, some customers also noted that the business still provides very competitive prices, a fun middle aisle, and a great variety of fresh food and bakery items. A few people additionally mentioned encountering friendly employees who delivered wonderful customer care during their daily shopping trips.

Lidl Pistachio ice cream/ chocolate lolly.

Chocolate flavour very strong ABSOLUTELY no pistachio flavour at all. The only good thing about them is the colourful box they are packed in.

Don’t waste your money, they are terrible.

I have just been in the Pemberton store in Wigan
One checkout open that had a massive que,So i was forced to use the self scan
This was a nightmare due to the items I had. Then I dropped my receipt in my bag. I turned to exit the store and they have got some stupid system in place, that you have to scan the receipt to leave. I had to mess about trying to find my receipt at the bottom of my bag. Stupid system I will be going to Aldi in future.

Zero stars regarding attitude of female shop assistant at Stanningley Leeds store very ageist comment. Not been bullied by her to buy a bag

On the till kept trying to get myself go yes/no to her when she didn't do that with other customers that I heard that were in front of myself. First it was about a bag. I've got sufficient bags so didn't answer then it was about the Lidl App was quite clear that I had it as I had my phone out then I stated it was card. It's ready for you? What is ? was my comment? The machine that's a chip and pin machine that I pulled to myself that usually the male shop assistants do that for me. Then it was don't forget your glasses was a rude, unprofessional and ageist comment that I stated I wouldn't then walked out.

The food is nice but customer service from her was bad

The High Protein Rice Pudding has recently been changed and is the most vile thing I've ever tasted. It used to be great and for some reason the recipe changed recently. Whoever approved this must not have taste buds!

Lidl Netherfield

Lidl Netherfield, Nottingham. I don’t visit this store very often and only go in because I’ve run out of a few bits. Previous visits sometimes involved long queues, half empty shelves, fresh produce past its sell by date. Some other visits have included rudeness to the point of aggression from check out staff. Today was no different, unfortunately, regarding staff.

Lidl, please consider some self service tills in this store. It would help with the one person serving on a till scenario and a queue building up. And customers can avoid any unhappy, rude staff.

I am extremely disappointed with the service I received at the Lidl Bolton store. I visited the store to return an item, but my return was refused without a clear explanation or any genuine effort to help resolve the issue.

As a customer, I expected a professional, respectful, and fair approach. Instead, I felt that my concerns were dismissed, which left me feeling frustrated and undervalued. Good customer service is not only about selling products but also about dealing with customers fairly when problems arise.

I hope Lidl reviews the way returns are handled at this store and provides better training to staff so that customers are treated with respect and consistency. Unfortunately, this experience has significantly reduced my confidence in shopping at Lidl, and I will think twice before returning.

Lidl Falmouth. Staff were wonderful but the self scanning checkout malfunctioned five times during checkout. No tokens available for trolleys and general store experience was poor.

WOW!

WOW!! Thorne Lidl what a disgusting show of customer service. These staff members must hate their jobs?

Another till wasnt opened till approx 6 people were queuing with trollies. Same as yesterday!

No baskets at entrance but loads near checkouts whilst one assistant stood their with a face like medusa as she saw people struggling for baskets!!!

It's not the above which is bad service but the standard of rudeness and unhelpfulness from some of the staff! Miserable faces bad attitudes no assistance for items I could not find. I have a sight disability so sometimes need help to locate small items.

I'm not surprised this company has a less than two rating if the standard of customer service is across the board in all their stores.

To Lidl staff.......do not forget we PAY YOUR WAGES!!! if you don't like working there then do us all a favour and leave. Give somebody with a more pleasant demeanour a chance of employment

Shame on you Lidl and your recruitment process. Oh by the way the manager isn't much better!

Never used to be this bad. Either management has changed or training and recruitment.

Won't be back and I spend over 300 quid a week here.!

What you hear of is not what you get

I only shop here at Wood Green Lidl because they are cheaper like Aldi whereas other larger stores are more expensive, but their product ranges are poor, i guess you get what you pay for. In particular their box of fruit offer for £2 which they have been doing for 'years'. Yesterday for the first time I wanted to see what they had in the box as my daughter showed me what she picked up at the Angel Edmonton store. I got to the store at 7.05am as early as possible to get the best, was shockingly disappointed, as the trolley didnt come out until 3/4 hour later and with no announcement, just a sneaky placement, while I waited around and in the end the fruit and veg produce was disappointing so I wont be doing this box of fruit again at Wood Green. Their aisles too are so narrow and they wheel their trolleys laden with cases to stack shelves with so fast that it won't be long before someone gets badly hurt

Greenock Lidl

Greenock Lidl. Takes ages for anyone to approve at the self serve check outs. Very short staffed. Considered leaving items at the counter and walking out numerous times. No way of alerting staff.

Date of Incident

Date of Incident : 4 August, 2026
Time : 12:26
Venue : Parr Bridge Lidl
Staff : The short man with glasses full with tattoos

The staff member (the shorter man with glasses) was extremely rude, dismissive, and unprofessional towards customers. His attitude was intimidating and made me feel very uncomfortable throughout my visit.

What made the experience even worse was that seeing the same staff member immediately reminded me of a previous unpleasant encounter at this store. Instead of feeling welcomed as a customer, I felt anxious and uneasy. I decided to leave without shopping because I no longer felt comfortable staying in the store.

I am genuinely disappointed that Lidl would allow a member of staff to repeatedly treat customers in this manner. Regardless of personal appearance or style, every employee should behave respectfully and professionally. No customer should feel intimidated or unsafe while simply trying to shop.

After this experience, I have lost confidence in this store and do not intend to return unless this issue is taken seriously. I hope Lidl will investigate this matter and ensure that all customers are treated with the courtesy and respect they deserve.

Filthy

Would it hurt someone to give the self-checkout machines a wipe sometimes?
Yesterday, at their Union street branch, Plymouth, they were absolutely caked in filth, I did not want to put my food on them.
A basic hygeine standard for any food seller is to keep surfaces clean, it is a breach of regulations and a risk to the public health to leave them covered in unidentifiable muck.

Used to love Lidl and the simple rewards, bakery item after £10 etc.
Now the new scheme i've not benefitted ONCE! So have gone from visiting Lidl maybe twice a week to maybe once every 1 or 2 months.
Disappointing... at least with the other supermarkets i feel i get something unlike now with Lidl.

⭐☆☆☆☆Serious Parking Problems Affecting Genuine Lidl Customers

⭐☆☆☆☆

I would like to share my experience to warn other customers and ask Lidl to take this matter seriously.

I have received seven Parking Charge Notices from this car park, even though I was a genuine Lidl customer on every occasion. I have kept all my shopping receipts and payment records, which clearly show that I was shopping in the store. In most cases, I was only in the store for 15 to 20 minutes, just long enough to do my shopping.

What is even more concerning is that, on one occasion, I recorded a video showing myself correctly entering my vehicle registration into the parking system. Despite having this evidence, I still received a Parking Charge Notice.

After speaking with people I know locally, I have already found four other people who have experienced exactly the same problem in this car park. In addition, two members of Lidl staff told us that many customers have complained about similar issues.

The most disappointing part is the lack of support from the store management. When we tried to speak to the store manager, we were simply told to contact Lidl or ParkingEye ourselves. No attempt was made to investigate the issue or to help customers who can clearly provide evidence that they complied with the parking requirements.

We are not trying to avoid our responsibilities. We simply want Lidl to investigate what is happening with the parking registration system and to support genuine customers who can prove that they shopped in the store and correctly registered their vehicles.

Our intention is not to complain for the sake of it. We would like Lidl to arrange a meeting, or appoint someone responsible, to speak with the customers who have been affected, review the evidence we have, and help find a fair solution. This no longer appears to be an isolated incident but a recurring problem affecting genuine Lidl customers.

If you have experienced a similar issue at this car park, I encourage you to share your experience. The more evidence there is, the easier it will be for Lidl to understand the scale of the problem and ensure that it is properly investigated and resolved.

To be fair, Lidl has generally...

To be fair, Lidl has generally been very good in my experience, but today's visit to the Dalkeith store was extremely disappointing.

I returned a bag of Italian Roast coffee because I genuinely believed it was of poor quality compared with previous bags I've purchased there. I was initially told by a member of staff that I would definitely receive a refund and was directed to the appropriate till but after waiting in the queue, the staff member serving me said I would not be getting a refund at all because, in their opinion, there was nothing wrong with it but what I don't understand is how that conclusion was reached. The coffee wasn't tested or examined in any way, yet I was simply told it wasn't of inferior quality and no refund would be given. The contradictory advice from staff made the whole trip a complete waste of my time, fuel and effort.

I was also disappointed to hear members of staff talking about other customers behind their backs while I was waiting and making fun of them.... it struck me as childish and unprofessional and did little to inspire confidence in the management of this store and made me wonder whether I'd be the next to be discussed openly amongst staff on the shop floor once I left the store.

Update, I did receive a small value voucher to cover the cost of the coffee but nothing else for the hassle I experienced / wasted time / wasted fuel etc...
