Sadly I have spent 2 years fighting my poor experience with the financial ombudsman, to no avail. It seems that Involegal and Natwest alike can treat customers how they please, provide false evidence to the ombudsman and simply get away with it.
I can't believe the same thing is happening 2 years later to you poor people. I'm so sorry you are having to go through this and that no authority has stepped in to appropriately address this company.
I'm at the point of mortgage renewal once more. I will not be renewing through any lender that uses Involegal.
Best of luck, all.

I remortgaged two properties with the same lender at exactly the same time. Involegal have taken at least an extra 4 wks to complete, at my cost, dreadful communication and lack of clarity on process. Other company had a portal to access and were very prompt and responsive . Virgin Money find yourselves a new firm they are damaging your brand.
The worst company I have ever come…
The worst company I have ever come across, delayed completion by a month due to their total incompetence, would never ever use them again, caused untold stress, which was totally avoidable, lack of communication and blamed everyone else, told me they had sent me 2 letters, but neither arrived, never bothered to phone or email me, I had to chase them all the time.
Avoid if possible
Avoid if possible. They were appointed by my lender to complete my remortgaging. A few days before completion I got an invoice for £84 (Parasitic as I wasn't informed about this charge) to transfer the funds to my bank account ( which is currently free of charge between all UK banks for all UK bank customers). After complaining that the charges were extortionate, they said I can avoid the charge if they post a check to me which I accepted.
The check should have been posted the next day after completion, 5 days later I haven't received the check.
Take them to Legal Ombudsman
I would encourage anyone who has experienced poor service with Involegal to follow their complaints process and take them to the Legal Ombudsman. It has taken me over a year but the ombudsman has upheld my case and compensation was payable. The higher the upheld cases the more like Involegal might take notice and start to change for the better.
In my case my remortgage was unnecessarily delayed; My emails were never responded too; I would spend hours waiting in queues to speak to someone to find out no one had progressed my case, and they didn’t follow through on their promises. They didn’t even respond to my complaint until chased via Twitter. Unbelievably they told the legal ombudsman that I should have expected a poor level of service due to the price paid and didn’t even record half of the phone conversations I had with them. You are just a number to Involegal.
Should have read the reviews first :-(
Should have read the reviews first. Was supposed to complete tomorrow for my remortgage with HSBC but these cowboys have cocked it up and have delayed it till the 4th. Reason? The redemption statement wasn’t received. Well, I have proof in writing from my existing mortgage provider that they sent a copy twice. This will probably cost me. I will fight for that compensation. My own fault, should have seen red when they wouldn’t communicate with me at all and I had to chase them every single time. I know what’s happened… they forgot about my case and it’s only when I chased them up on it they remembered and decided that they will delay it in order to get it moving. I won’t add my case number to this review in case they decide to delay my remortgage even more… they seem like the type of firm to do so…
UPDATE: I'm going to update my review as the customer service advisors have actually been really polite and helpful. will update the rating depending on what happens today.
UPDATE: Keeping the review the same, wish I could give 0. Still haven't completed. Their fax machine doesn't seem to recieve the redemption statement which has been sent SEVERAL times.
Avoid!
Poor communication. Poor customer service, my case was cancelled in error and only reinstated when I rang after not hearing anything from them. Awful when dealing with complaints. Avoid!
Surprised at how ineffective this website is!
After reading so many bad reviews I nearly called my loan provider to change their appointed solicitor. However, I looked on Involegal's website and realised that there's only 350 total reviews on TrustPilot and Involegal claim they process 35000 mortgages a year.
I was getting this service free from Virgin money as a remortgage and my remortgage had two parts with a buy out of a help to buy loan also. So not difficult but a little more difficult than a straight remortgage.
Honestly, I cannot say how impressed I am, really good service and very efficient responses whenever i called. The teams pre-empted what I needed to sign and what I needed to do ahead of time with excellent communication along the way to keep me updated. I regularly called to check and all questions were answers and no surprises when I called.
I notice a lot of the reviews are related to Natwest, maybe this is a different team?
I saved just under a thousand pounds by going with the free Involegal service as provided by Virgin money but I'd shopped around and was getting silly quotes from solicitors as I had two parts to my remortgage. Time was really critical for me so I was happier to pay for a solicitor firm with a good online rating; but needless to say I saved a sizable amount by going with this provider and by not reading the negative online reviews.
You can't believe the way they work
You can't believe the way they work. They are absolutely a nightmare. Highly unprofessional and nonreliable. I incurred a financial loss because of them. Stay from the mortgage company that is using them as their solicitors. Please inquire with the mortgage beforehand who will be their legal representative if its involegal then steer away.
Please please please take up your complaints with the legal ombudsman
***COMPLAIN TO THE LEGAL OMBUDSMAN IF YOU’VE RECEIVED BAD SERVICE***
After a terrible experience with Involegal when remortgaging with NatWest at the end of 2019 I raised a complaint with Involegal first of all after completion for the same reason people highlighted in the majority of their reviews. Involegal’s response to the complaint was appalling so I took it up with the legal ombudsman to review further. Long story short I have just received £250 compensation from Involegal for their shoddy work and id urge people to complain to the legal ombudsman if you’ve equally had a poor experience, it’s a long and arduous process but worth it, make sure you keep a note of all emails and correspondence you’ve sent and when, it will help your case. It’s the only way that others in future may see an improvement in this terrible service.
Horrible
Horrible! ! Cant believe Natwest is using them. No one ever responds to emails, not a chance they will answer the phone.
Just shocking
Avoid
Sad to leave bad feedback but after 6 calls to try and get a cheque sent out, they are terrible. Sound friendly and helpful, always say the request will be completed...6 calls later and still nothing. I don't comprehend why this is acceptable. Used them years ago for a remortgage and their delays back then caused a ton of issues and were all disregarded when I complained.
Just avoid them, it's the consistency of poor service over years that's the issue.
Ridiculous...
Ridiculous service and communication... have tried calling involegal several times over a couple of months and haven't had any updates on my re-mortgage. When I called again today, all they said is that they would get back to me, without giving any timelines or commitments. Submitted all the documentation over multiple interactions (why couldn't they just ask everything at once) and nothing further since then. HSBC should take up responsibility as well and just dump this firm...
Involegal and Hugh James Awful and incompetent.
If I could give a 0 star review I certainly would.
The task required to be completed was not done in a timely fashion and has left us in all sorts of problems where I'm now paying another solicitor to pick up on where Involegal have dropped the ball.
Firstly, the paperwork submitted was incorrect and only after our bank had chased up did they bother to re-submit 18 months later!!!!!!
No-one seems to know who has/is working on, or what is happening with our case and after contacting them to raise an official complaint I still have not heard back from the company.
I've not received any formal acknowledgment of my complaint.
This is a Hugh James company as stated on their website but when you ring Hugh James they said Involegal is someone they "farm" work out to.
A complete sham of a company.
A good experience
We dealt with Involegal,Woodhall Mortgages and Virgin Money in order to remortgage from residential to buy to let.
Apart from one small hiccup at the beginning whereby a residential declaration had been sent in place of a buy to let declaration, everything else went relatively smoothly
The remortgage completed on the specified date, the surplus funds were transferred immediately and everything was carried out by email with only one phone call.
There are many bad reviews here to read, but based on our own experience the review has to be a positive one.
Utterly appalling - avoid if you can!
Not even worth one star!
Worst customer service I have experienced in a long time.
Involegal are utterly incapable of: responding to an email; confirming receipt of emails, documentation or large sums of money.
I had no option but to use this appalling company when re-mortgaging. However, I will never use them again in the future.
Decent Service, thankfully!
Involegal processed all on time with a little nudging from our side. All solidly undertaken; having had Involegal allocated (rather than selected) we were very concerned when we read online reviews and are relieved that the team look to be fully on top of things now.
Still waiting for Surplus funds
Completed on my remortgage on 1 July 2020 and was told surplus funds would be sent to me by Cheque a day after completion. Waited two weeks and nothing so email to ask where the Cheque was only to be told they did send it but will resend another. Waited another week and still Cheque. called on Friday and told they will stop the Cheque and then do a bank transfer free of charge and I should get it Monday/Tuesday. Today ( Tuesday) still no funds. Chased them with a few emails and no response. Finally responded and said they still waiting for confirmation from the bank that the Cheque is cancelled before they can do the transfer. What a pile of b0llocks! They prob sitting their making interest from my funds! I checked with the Post Office and they said there is no backlog of post. Asked Involegal to provide Evidence of posting but nothing.
Kathryn James very competent Associate
We were apprehensive before going ahead with Involegal after reading the reviews but we thought for the price let's go ahead. We were very happy that we did and Kathryn James was the person who lead our purchase she was superb and professional. A very competent and fast worker.
THE WORST- NATWEST NEED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY TOO- WATCHDOG NEED TO GET INVOLVED
Absolutely shocked to see negative reviews still being posted 4 months on from my client's issue. I am a broker and these buys were by far the worst 'free legals' I've come across and the lender who recommended them, Natwest, needs to stand up and take responsibility too.
Involegal went AWOL two weeks before completion and when I approached Natwest they said Involegal aren't taking theirs calls either. I stepped in and tried to call Involegal but after 40 minutes on hold you are hung up on every time.
The client ended up on the variable rate during Christmas which was a massive financial burden for him and his family and neither solicitor or lender seemed to care. When we finally got hold of them both kept blaming other like small school children and it wasn't when we caught one of them out on their lies that the client was compensated with no so much of an apology. I spent hours of my time on this too which is not how I expect to spend my time during the Christmas period and a self-employed broker
The fault was eventually with Natwest; however, it wouldn't have got to that stage if Involegal has done their job right in the first place and checked the documents properly.
I would encourage everyone to take this matter further and Watchdog- my only verbal contact was with Natwest but the way they threw their hands up and shunned responsibility when the original fault lay with them is clear evidence of a big bank bullying customers and not taking any responsibility
