My insurance was cancelled in the middle of a roadtrip through France, because I didn't send documents that I was never asked for. They admitted their mistake, tried to reinstate the policy, but couldn't. I then had to take out insurance elswhere (at a much higher cost because it was a standalone policy), and they refused to reimburse the difference. I then escalated my complaint to the FOS, who agreed that they didn't deal with my complaint fairly, and ordered them to give me my money back. They put up maximum resistance during this process too—rejecting their findings before pleading guilty at the last minute.
While I was dragging Hastings kicking and screaming to the FOS for this, another system error of theirs meant that they cancelled my partner's policy after trying to change the address. They couldn't reinstate this either. I could hardly believe it. Thankfully this complaint was dealt with much better than the other one and I was reimbursed the financial loss I incurred as a result without a fight.
This repeat pattern of behaviour means I won't touch them with a barge pole ever again, and neither should you.

I would leave 0 stars for customer care but simply put avoid and go elsewhere.

Used the policy that follows my driving through a little black box, stuck to windscreen.
They cancelled my policy because I didn't drive enough. They wanted me to share my location constantly and keep my Bluetooth on. Very invasive. I didn't drive often and so they cancelled my policy, despite me telling them that I don't drive often. They told kept telling me that this policy wasn't for me, since I don't drive often. There is nothing in this policy to say that I need to drive all the time. I shared my data when I drove. They are scammers.

Because Hastings lost my car key, my vehicle is now at greater risk of being stolen again. Any reputable insurer would pay to reprogram the immobiliser and supply a replacement. Hastings offered a token £200 — nowhere near the real cost. This is not protecting customers.

I have been with these for a number of years and had no problem. That is until you need to contact them. They 'push the app' saying that you can do loads on there without using the phone, or you can message them. That was not in my case, my query was not listed on the app, it was a phone call. I tried 3 times at different times of the day and every time I was told that they were experiencing a high number of calls with long waiting times. So I sent a message yesterday and I am still waiting for a reply. Very frustrating.

If I could put zero stars I would.
I have accidental cover on my contents insurance and when called this morning I found out the policy is not worth the paper or is written on. My sofa is worth 3600 however as I didn’t declare my sofa as over £1500 I would only get 1150 after the excess of £350. Now to put into context on the drop down menu to insert this sofa isn’t even mentioned you have to click on other then physically write sofa. I personally do not know anyone who had a sofa that cost at new less than £1500. I cancelled the policy immediately.

Hi, I cam across this post as very similar thing happened to me as well. I drive a ford focus and have had telematics previously with another company in past with no issues. Hastings Youdrive people suddenly dropped a bomb saying the score is low and policy needs to be cancelled. This was 6 months into the policy with no driving feedback what so ever prior to that. I logged a complaint but it was upheld stating my driving was at fault !! Absolute nonsense.

Have had a year of misery with this company. I discovered they had misinformation on my account (inc details of a car I PREVIOUSLY owned that had been involved in an accident ages after I sold it which was increasing my premiums) as well as mucking up my NCD.
Customer services less than useless. They never do anything they say they will and try and pass the buck between departments.
Ended up getting compensation when I said I was taking my case to the Ombudsman. Even after that, they are still getting things wrong and are a nightmare to deal with.
My quote for this year is double that of who I have gone with and 3 times the amount I have been paying this year.
My advice is see the words Hastings and / or Insure Pink and run!

Absolutely awful service, stayed on the phone for 2 hours speaking (still on the phone to them as I type this) to 5 different people, not one person (Thando and Peggy from new business are the ones I can remember) was able to help. Im not sure if the team are all as incompetent as those named above but getting a new quote was like getting blood out of a stone. I’m not asking for anything difficult not sure.

On the 12th April I hit a massive pothole which resulted in my wheel buckling and damage to the tyre. Hastings arranged for my car to be taken to a secure location to be stored until the Monday when I was informed that the car would be taken to a repair centre to assess the damage and repair the car.
My car has been left in the lock up now for days and I am ringing every day to try and get my car taken to the repair centre. I get told that the car is definitely going to be collected and taken to the repair centre the next day but it has not been collected and I am getting very concerned that Hastings have taken my car and I am not going to get it back.
They left me with no courtesy car despite telling me my policy cover provided one.
I am a Community Palliative Care Nurse and I have been left stranded not being able to visit terminal cancer patients as my car remains in the lock up.
I would highly recommend you don’t take out insurance with Hastings third service is woefully inadequate and when it comes down to actually making a claim they breach their contract and leave you stranded with terrible communication. They have taken my car and in effect are refusing to take it to the garage they said they would. I feel I am in a living nightmare and would not want anyone to go through what I am with this insurance company. Steer well clear is my advice!!!

The worst!! They give you cheaper premiums by offering a telematics system. Having drove for 18 years im the second time into having a box previously it was ok, this time policy taken out in Feb and received an email stating they would cancel my policy after the driving score was under 30 on a journey which wasn’t tracked as the tab never works properly, the app previously stated driving score of over 70! A month of being with them has ended up costing me £280! Lost £100 to be insured for a short time with them and thanks to them other providers won’t now insure me so having to pay extra premiums for alternative insurers!

AVOID THEM. ITS NOT WORTH IT. Cancelled my policy with them as they wanted to charge me £200 for updating my employment status (they did not believe I was unemployed even though I showed them proof of resignation and an acknowledgement from my previous employer). Even after seeing proof, they still charged me £200 as apparently I was in the first month of my policy so they don't waiver premiums in the first month (even if I gave them proof).
So unhelpful, I don't understand why they would ask for proof in the first place on two occasions if they were going to say no based on the fact that my policy had just started. It says on their app and website that updating details only requires a £20 admin fee, not £200! This is clearly misinformation.

ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING CUSTOMER SERVICE AND FLAWED BUSINESS MODEL!!!!!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS- it took over a month for the tab arrive and MULTIPLE replacements. They are so frugal they only send it tracked on the third attempt of replacement. On my first drive after connecting the tab all of my categories were in the complete green and the breaking was all red. I went from an automatic starting score of 75 to a score of 54. This drive totalled 6 miles.. I wasn’t breaking harshly at all and explained this over the phone to the Hastings representative who disregarded this. My score went down over 20 in ONE SHORT JOURNY OF NORMAL DRIVING. God knows what they do when you are actually driving recklessly or dangerously. That was it for me- if it’s on 54 now it only takes another of the same 6 mile drive for it to go down 20 again and below 30 so it would get automatically cancelled. I will he cancelling my policy for my own mental health and peace of mind.. I have already called Hastings 10+ times before this to get a tab so don’t want to spend my future on the phone
