Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 135 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers frequently struggle with deeply unhelpful customer service representatives and extremely long telephone waiting times when attempting to successfully resolve urgent financial problems. Many people also experience several major daily frustrations regarding unexpected account freezes, complex payment processing errors, and ongoing difficulties safely accessing their money. Some reviewers were happy with helpful branch staff who genuinely tried to assist them and certain promotional cash bonuses received on their accounts. A few customers specifically noted that friendly local branch employees attempted to provide good support despite dealing with broader organizational challenges.

Recently opened an account...

I recently opened an account with Huntington Bank and was initially impressed with the competitive interest rate offered. However, I quickly became disappointed with the lack of transparency regarding the actual interest rate applied to my savings account.

I cannot find the current interest rate anywhere within my online banking platform or mobile app. This lack of transparency is a major concern and undermines my trust in the bank.

While I understand the importance of building a strong banking relationship, the inability to easily see the interest rate on my savings account has unfortunately led me to close all of my accounts with Huntington Bank.

I hope this feedback will encourage Huntington Bank to improve its customer experience and enhance the transparency of its products and services.

Will not process loan payoffs

I was assigned a loan with Huntington when I financed at a dealership. When the time came to pay off the loan, Huntington would not process the payoff; they ONLY allow you to mail a paper check (in nearly 2025), and although registered mail tells me the check was received they will not process it and refuse to give you any status on the phone of why they won't process it. Obviously illegal behavior but it's up to me to get legal representation...

Horrible customer service, no solutions

"My goodness, what an absolute mess of a position this bank puts you in!
I opened up a business checking account completely online, and when it came time to close the account a couple of years later, I went to wire my funds out, and customer service repeatedly and very rudely insisted that in order to do this, I must go into a branch. Mind you, I don't live in a state where Huntington exists, and they keep repeating themselves as if I'm the one who isn’t understanding the situation.
They wouldn't even provide any alternatives. They were just completely satisfied with notifying me that I had no options other than to basically get on a plane to manage my banking. Absurd.
I had to call a branch desperately to see if they might have any tips for me, and they were able to help with the suggestion of an ACH transfer instead of a wire. From there, I opted to make the ACH transfer, and they canceled it for "security purposes" and removed my ability to even do any sort of bill pay! I'm still struggling to retrieve my funds. They are absolutely ill-equipped to provide services to their customers outside of their branch territories, and have the audacity to not at all train their clueless customer service employees on how to provide solutions. They operate like a start up and they should be embarrassed. It should not be legal to hold up anyone's money in this way with no solutions. Shame on you Huntington Bank!!!

Had a loan for a brand new camper that got totaled 3 months after we bought it. 95 percent of the loan was paid off by the main insurance and when would try to check on if our Gap had paid off the rest, the customer service representatives were rude. To top it off, they lost a check sent by the dealership to pay off their portion and made it my fault after they signed for the check and couldn't find it. This bank has some major issues when they lose a check they had to sign for from carrier. It also takes them 10 business days to process a check and most banks process in three. I got charged extra interest and late fees while they were processing checks sent to them on my behalf.

Dishonest bank reps

Huntington Bank customer service reps as well as their managers have no problem lying to their customers. I opened a new checking account on behalf of my disabled husband. No thanks to a customer service rep, the account was closed within two days of having the first automated deposit made. The customer service rep we both had talked to the first time I called to get the pin number set up, decided to flag the account and they closed it. With my husband authorizing each conversation I had with other customer service reps and a couple of managers to find out what was going on. They lied when they told me a check was already put in the mail along with a letter, when they never mailed it. By lying to me about that, a new car payment was late, as well as other bills were late to be paid. We finally got the mo ey from the account, but that was after day basically forced my disabled husband to come to the branch to have the funds withdrawn and to have the account closed. They should be ashamed of themselves for treating people this way. This was a very stressful time dealing with this and we are sorry we ever decided to open an account there. To this date, I don't believe they have actually closed the account since they didn't have my husband sign any papers stating to have it closed. I'm really concerned that when social security sends his November check that it will go to the wrong bank and everything will be delayed once again. What a mess this was and still may be. I changed the information online with social security. But, it can take two months to change things. So who knows? I never plan to do business with Huntington Bank ever again.

I have a personal account at Huntington…

I have a personal account at Huntington and a business account at a different local bank. I wrote a check from my business to my personal account. Huntington put a hold on my check, but as it came from my other account, I am able to see on the app that the money was withdrawn from my business account the day after I wrote the check. Huntington claims the check is not cleared...a week later. They are lying. Unacceptable.

Customer Service is worthless

Customer Service is worthless. You are asked for a callback number for a more immediate response when you call. When they call back, however, you are put on hold for 40-60 minutes, or they hang up.

When you reach someone, they simply tell you to go to your local branch.

I also run into problems with my accounts because of internal bank errors propagated by miscommunication and inaccurate computer transcriptions.

I would not recommend Huntington Services. If it weren’t so complicated to transfer all my families accounts to another bank, I would.

Just another account

My review is a tad more personal, but I can honestly that I now know my place at Huntington and that place is just another account. I used to work at Huntington in the mortgage department and we were always preached to, to make a personable relationship with our borrowers. To show that we care, and they are more than just an account, to go above and beyond. Well... now that I'm on the other side of that, I feel Huntington has failed. I applied for a hardship for my mortgage payment. I've had my mortgage with them since 2020, never been late, never overdrawn my account, never complained about anything (even during escrow analysis when a double payment was made for my insurance and I had to fight to get things corrected and payment dropped, this should have been caught by that department). I included a detailed letter with my application explaining my situation and that I didn't even need the full 6 months, just a month or two to get caught back up. I even attempted to get this done BEFORE missing a payment, hoping we could work something out before there would even be an issue. Not only did they wait until after the payment was due, but it was denied altogether. I understand everyone is struggling in this economy and some even worse off than me. But that's also why I wasn't asking for an altogether forgiveness' of some sort, just to be worked with so I didn't ruin my credit score and still be able to put food on the table.... Huntington failed at this. I currently work at another bank dealing with mortgages and used to direct people Huntington's way if we were not able to help them.... needless to say, I will no longer be doing this.

Terrible online customer service

Terrible online customer service. Over the course of 3 weeks and approximately 1.75 hours on hold I was told by 3 different customer service reps that the issue with sending funds to a loved one through a site named Jail ATM had been resolved. (This is a legitimate site that aids families trying to help their loved ones during a difficult time by sending funds for inmate use for basic necessities.) Repeated lies just to get people off the phone. Never speak to the same person. Last supervisor I spoke with, Juan, basically got on the line to bully me into submission. I acted appropriately the entire time, simply asking him why I kept getting different answers from 6 different reps. and supervisors and still the same result-card declined to this site only. He finally said "we no longer have the capabilities to override those transaction declines that we once did." When I asked why someone didn't simply say that sooner, he ended the call, saying I was speaking over him. Done with this bank forever and will always speak badly of them when given the opportunity.

Huntington Bank Sucks

They suck. I liked tcf better. Customer service is horrible 9/10 of the time. You've been a victim of fraud, so what. We locked your card, oh well. You want funds from your account, go to another branch or offer customer $1,000 in $5 and singles. Their policies are not customer friendly and neither is some of their employees.

These guys are clowns don't use them

Don’t use them. I travel a lot. I was assured multiple times no issues using my card. Of course, I couldn't take cash out overseas and every person with a Podunk small bank had no issues. They also decline all transactions you do if you have never used your card there before like a bunch of nincompoops. I do crossfit training in the same city where my branch is located and they denied the charge.
I never had any issues with TCF. These guys just can’t get it right.

Don’t bank with Huntington Bank

They tell me one thing that I can use my debit card or write checks. And then I tried to pay a bill only to find out I don’t have any money in my account. I have bills to pay. This is crap! Everything has to be processed. Well process this ! I am pulling all my money out.

At least I got my money out

I opened a new account online - ordered cute checks from Costco and was waiting for my debit card to arrive in the mail. The ONLY way I could bank via Huntington in the meantime was online. I transferred $$ from another bank into my new Huntington account and later decided to pay a bill electronically with some of that money. The bill pay triggered some sort of fraud alert, which I was not informed about, and the payment was not made. I didn't know anything was wrong until I tried the next day to check my balance via the mobile app and then online via my computer only to find I was totally locked out.
After wasting an hour setting new passwords, using different computers/phones, etc., I finally called customer service. I was told the only way I could unlock my account would be to visit a local branch in person and present my ID. This was a real pain, as the nearest branch is in a town more than 20 minutes away. But I dutifully drove there to present my ID... and close the account!
The teller was very pleasant, and I was shocked that he gave me my entire balance in cash, which seemed pretty weird considering the bank wouldn't let me pay my bills electronically with that same money.
I received my shiny new debit card in the mail about 3 hours after I closed my account. I guess my checks will show up in a couple days.
So, I'm not getting the $400 advertised bonus for opening a new Huntington checking account, plus I wasted about $20 on worthless checks and $6 on gas for my round trip to the local branch. Dealing with Huntington was a total waste of my time and money!

Falling behind times. Lack of phone communication with CSR

I have been with Huntington for over 12 years. They used to be kind of a lighthouse for banks but now they just seem less than average and customer service is really slacking at the 800#. I called today to see if I could get a Debit card for, my son that is 12 yrs. old, savings account. I had a call back set up for 10am this morning and they did call on time. The lady's accent was extremely thick but managed through it. So, as I thought she was ordering it and put me on hold for a long period of time. I went ahead and called in from my work phone and got right to a CSR again really strong accent. And there was a lot of excuse me, repeat that on my part because I could not understand him. CSR use to be American what happened. So anyways again trying to order debit card for my son. I verified everything they asked, and they wanted to send me text verification code and I'm like so what's protocol if I don't have cell?? I said not everyone has a cell or knows how to use it. I am a property manager and not all my tents have cell phones or know how to check text. I said can you send it to my email. I'm just so sick of every business expecting people to be reliant on cell phones. He said no I would have to go into a branch. So, I said fine send me the code. I verified and he said can I put you on hold to order ATM card. I said excuse me I need a debit card so he can order things with card. He says that's what I meant. Ok. He gets back on the phone and says he could not do a debit card for a minor I said OK then put it in my name. I need a card for the account I am not always available to transfer money to my account for him to use my card. I was put on hold again; he gets back on the line and says I will have to visit a branch to get a card. I said I need to speak to a supervisor he transferred me over and I asked can you see who I spoke to today she said yes, I have 1 call logged and I said no I have spoken to 2 people how are my calls not logged. No excuse or reason. I said Well call one was disconnected with me sitting on hold for over 20 min and she neither got back on the line nor called back I then said I'm disappointed in service I have less reasons to stay with Huntington. I said you do not have a branch in my area. I said there is an ATM but I found that after I had to open another bank account in my town. The ATM location doesn't even show on their location map. I said why is there an issue with me getting a debit card for my son's savings account she proceeds to tell me they only issue ATM cards for savings account. My reply well both of the CSR I spoke to today said otherwise. I said the CSR that just transferred me to you said I would just have to go to a branch. I said so why do they not know this. She said they do. Well again obviously they do not. I asked why the insist on sending text message and why can't I opt in for emails for verification codes. She said it's a safety feature, I feel otherwise. If I have to call type in ss# verify debit card code, why do you need a verification code sent to my cell and not to my email if I have already verified who I am also verify phone number and address that's on account to order card. She said we only do it or certain things like ordering new cards. I said but I can order a replacement card on-line with no extra verification. She said on-line account is password protected I said so is my email. Then I asked why the money transfer from bank to bank was taking 5 days she said it takes 3 days. I said I put in transfer yester the 10th and it said it would complete on the 15th. So, she replies it takes 3 business days. I then ask so why is it Huntington is falling behind. My Chase account even on weekends can-do real-time bank to bank transfers that second no wait. My work hours are longer than the bank hours so again since there is not one in my area me taking my lunch to go is going to cause me to run over lu allowed time and lose pay. They need to change protocol and they need to adjust to people that do not have access to a branch. I mean they have a location map so they can verify themselves when a branch is not convenient. The phone CSR no longer make sure you are pleased with service, or they have completed request somehow, they are not even logging calls I don't feel safe with that. So, someone can get in my account and leave no trail. not cool. They don't even have the basic knowledge that you cannot order a debit card for a savings account and the accents are so thick you cannot understand what they are saying. I do not have issues when I go in the branch but that is not often because again my work hours make it hard to make it there. They need changes IMMEDIATLY. and again, every correspondence I have had with them over the phone lately has just left me disappointed. Oh, and I had another issue with them not seeing I had even ordered a new replacement card but yet I received an email that my card was on the way that's another review

If I could… I would give negative stars

I remember when Huntington bank was TCF and Chemical bank and NEVER once had any issues. However, I recently relocated back up north and began banking with Huntington and not once, but TWICE the ATM took my money and didn’t deposit it. 🤦‍♀️ I had to file a report and they said the people who collect the money only come once a week so I had to wait over 13 days total just for them to give me a “temporary credit” for the deposit. Of course after counting the money it showed that they had extra which was the exact amount the machine took from me ($1,200 THAT time…which was upsetting for several reasons but mainly bc it made me late on bills).

Sometime later, they closed my account down out of LITERALLY NOWHERE, and I called SO many times and spoke to several people in different departments and NO ONE could explain to me why my account was closed. They said they would mail the check with my remaining balance and it NEVER ARRIVED! After going to a completely different town, I was able to sit down with a lady at that location and she did some digging and finally got me some answers. (Not that they made any sense) My husband had somehow been made the primary account holder (even though I opened the account and added him on as a joint account holder when we got married). She told us they closed the account because they don’t do business with people who sell tobacco in their stores. FIRST OF ALL, MY bank account was never used for ANY company expenses, so why would that even matter what is sold in the store we own, and second of all we bank with a completely different bank for Business checking.

Luckily the lady was able to put a stop payment on the check that was “lost” BUT my husband had to take off work because the check HAD to be written in his name bc someone (never found out who or how) made him the primary account holder. 😑

I have never been told I couldn’t bank with ANY bank ever again, but apparently now I can no longer go to them for banking services… nor would I! All around horrible pain to deal with and not worth the headache. 🤦‍♀️

Closing an account is a nightmare

I opened a small business checking account online and understood as long as I had a personal checking account in good understanding, any monthly fee would be waived. Once the review was done and I received an email that I had the elite business checking account with a $40 monthly maintenance fee, I immediately called up. Turns out I have to maintain a $50,000 balance in my personal checking account — which will never happen — In order to have the monthly fee waived. I don’t even have any income that will be going into the account anytime soon and to start out it would definitely be $2500 or less and maybe eventually $10,000 or less.
It’s been over three weeks and I never received my debit card. I called over a week ago. They couldn’t help me over the phone because I don’t have a checking account number because I never got anything with a checking account number on it from the bank. They said once I got my checking account number I could call customer service and they could either close out my business checking account for me or take it down to the basic level account where I wouldn’t get a monthly fee.

This morning I called to report that I still had not received my debit account and that I just wanted to close the bank account because this is proving to be too much of a hassle, and was told they can’t do it over the phone and that I can visit any local branch where they can do it for me.

I drove down to the Belleville Road branch and was told by the teller that she cannot close the business checking account and that I would have to schedule an appointment with their manager, and that the earliest was next Wednesday.

I made an appointment to go in on my day off next Friday, wasting more of my time. In the meantime, I got in the car and called the other local branch on Huron River Drive to see if they might be able to take me today or sooner than next Friday, and the person who answered the phone told me they were extremely busy and that I would have to schedule an appointment with the manager and that he wasn’t able to do it right then because they were very busy. So I gave him my number to have the manager call me back and he said he could take down the number, but he would probably forget to call me back and I should just keep trying.

Customer service not so much. Wishing I had never opened the business checking account. The personal accounts that myself, and my kids own have been running along smoothly, but I’m half tempted to pull everything out. This is not how things went when I once worked at a bank. The manager was always on duty, first come, first serve.

Huntington in Valley creek (Woodbury, MN)

I am writing this review to express my profound disappointment and frustration with the discriminatory practices and disrespectful treatment I experienced at this branch. As a Black customer, I was appalled by the blatant discrimination and lack of respect shown by the bank's staff (the Indian manager and chubby blonde).

During my recent visits to the bank, It was clear that my race influenced the way I was approached and served. The staff displayed a disturbing lack of professionalism and courtesy, making me feel unwelcome and undervalued as a customer. I witnessed and experienced prolonged wait times, unnecessary scrutiny, and outright dismissive attitudes from them. It was evident that Black customers were not given the same level of service and respect as others, which is unacceptable and deeply troubling.

In one particular incident, I was subjected to unwarranted questioning and treated with suspicion when attempting to conduct a routine transaction. This level of disrespect and prejudice is not only unprofessional but also a direct violation of basic human rights and dignity.

Discrimination in any form is intolerable, and it is disheartening to see such behavior from an institution that should uphold principles of equality and fairness. No customer should ever feel marginalized or mistreated based on their race or ethnicity.

I strongly urge the bank to address these discriminatory practices and take immediate action to train their staff on diversity, equity, and inclusion. It is crucial for the bank to foster an environment where all customers are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.

Until significant changes are made, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this bank to anyone. I hope that my review serves as a wake-up call for the bank to reflect on their practices and make the necessary improvements to ensure equal and fair treatment for all customers.
