Poor customer service

I am extremely disappointed with the appalling customer service I received from Halfords regarding a faulty car battery still covered by their 4 year guarantee.

My local branch refused to exchange the battery, to make matters worse, I wrote a formal letter of complaint to Halfords head office . I have not received even the courtesy of a reply or acknowledgment.

Ignoring legitimate customer complaints is unacceptable for a company of this size and reputation . A guarantee should mean exactly that .

I expected far better from Halfords, instead, I have been met with refusal, and poor customer service. Based on my experience, I would seriously question whether their guarantees are truly honored when customers actually need them.

I would give this company 0 if I could

I would give this company 0 if I could! My mother took her car in to have a parking sensor fitted, the unqualified worker cut through the cables for the reversing lights and hill assist. It has taken 3 weeks and numerous phone calls to get this fixed. They have then sent the car to a garage who are refusing to give the car back because Halfords payment has gone through! I wouldn't trust them with even a toy car!

Dishonest

I scheduled a diesel particulate filter (DPF) flush service through their website and arranged an appointment at one of their garages. I left my vehicle there for an entire day to have the work completed. Despite waiting until the end of the day, I received no communication from the garage. When I contacted them, it appeared they had forgotten about my appointment, and their responses were inconsistent; they falsely claimed multiple times that the work had been completed, which was not the case. Upon returning to the garage, I found my car parked in the same spot where I initially left it, and the engine was cold, similar to a cold start in the morning. When I reached out to the support team, they stated that my job had been "rolled over," and after two weeks, I received a message indicating that the appointment had been canceled. I would not trust this company again, as it caused unnecessary stress and frustration. Their unprofessional conduct and dishonesty exhibited a lack of respect for my time and commitment.

Excellent service

Today I visited Halfords Newport, IW shop and enquired about repairing a chip in my windscreen. Very helpful man said they could do it today at a later time. I arrived at arranged time and saw Sean who would be doing the repair. He explained the procedure and said it would take about 30 minutes. I waited in store and when Sean had completed the work he came and got me to examine the job. It was excellent! Sean was a really nice guy and a credit to the firm. I cannot thank Halfords enough, for their work and excellent service. Well done.

Potential fraud / incapable of work

Booked a windscreen chip repair. Read all details of the booking prior Got a phone call 10 minutes before they arrived. As soon as I opened the door (no hello, intro or manners, etc) I was asked if I’d be ok signing a waiver so that if the employee damaged my car in anyway that I would be happy paying for it! Haha! No mention of this at the time of booking, nothing in the confirmation or tracking emails etc. just a random employee asking ME to cover HIS back. Very odd, very untrustworthy and was quite a huge red flag. So, I declined, then tried to call customer service to see if this request was legit and to (potentially rebook). Well, once you’ve spent over 5 minutes going through automated options, you are met with staff who barely speak English, are aggressive, pedantic and rude. They have no clue what you are on about when you refer the waiver (because they don’t speak sufficient English) so they put you on hold for over 10 minutes without warning then your call is just redirected to the initial main menu you started with. 7 calls I made before I gave up. And it’s the same lack of service online. I’d avoid and go to a local garage, at least that way you know the t&c s before you pay upfront and then are potentially scammed, with no way to get recompense or reassurance from a foreign team.

Avoid this place if you need bulb…

Avoid this place if you need bulb changes. They completely botched this simple job. I arrived asking for a straightforward bulb installation, but it turned out to be far from simple, making the situation worse. The technician broke the wires connected to the board, then said in broken English that I needed to go to a garage to fix it. As a result, my car was left without lights, indicators, brakes, or hazard lights. I had to pay an additional £155 to get it repaired.

Halfords has got the worst ever Customer Service

How Halfords cannot afford people to sort out their issues in store goes beyond me. I booked tyres online, paid for it, and was then told there is an error and to phone Customer Care. What a joke, it sounded like they were having a party, laughter, shouting, and making it impossible to hear the person supposed to assist me. When I told her I had been on the phone with her for 25 minutes as she asks 1 question, then disappeared for 5 minutes, then asked another question and disappeared, while I could hear her talking in the background, she quickly sorted me out and rebooked my order. The worst ever customer service I had to deal with. Halfords should be ashamed, and they just lost another customer for life.

I ordered a brand new starter motor at…

I ordered a brand new starter motor at a cost of over £200 and was sent a reconditioned unit.
Spoke to customer service who said I would be contacted within 8 hours,16 hours later I.am.now being told I have to wait upto 7 days.
Spent thousands with halfords over the last couple if years,will never use this company again.

Halfords and their scams

don't shop here at all 1/ they made me spend £657 on a dash cam this included fitting and it does not work
without £100 subscription they never tell you that the same dash cam cost £300 so i have paid more than double the price for this it's much cheaper online

2/ I was then issued with a 60 parking fine for parking at halfords over 3 hours when staff told
me that i would have to leave it there to get my dash cam fitted

3/ in January they
made me
sign up to the Halfords membership club even though i had a blue light card and then they told
me
it will cost me £45 to leave this membership which was also
not
mentioned at the time to me, I have been scammed by them in my opinion

What a difference

What a difference in 2 different Halford stores. In Craigavon the man was grumpy and overcharged me in Coleraine Ross could not have been more helpful to me a pensioner. He was kind and mannerly and I just want to say thank you Ross you made my day!!!! 😊

Halfords Moble Tyre service dont't bother

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Halfords’ mobile tyre replacement service and would strongly advise others to avoid it altogether.

Halfords claims it prides itself on offering quality products and services, and on providing support when things go wrong. My experience was the complete opposite—there was no meaningful support, no accountability, and no attempt to resolve a problem entirely of their own making.

The technician arrived but was unable to fit the tyres because they didn’t have the correct size socket—basic equipment that should have been confirmed before the appointment. Instead of taking responsibility or making any effort to resolve the issue, they simply refused to continue and left. I was left with unfitted tyres and no immediate solution, effectively abandoned after paying for a service that was not delivered.

The response from the call centre was equally unacceptable. They were dismissive, unhelpful, and completely lacking in empathy. Rather than taking ownership, they hid behind excuses and known issues, showing no willingness to address or fix the problem.

I am now left dealing with the inconvenience and additional cost of arranging tyre fitting myself—completely defeating the purpose of booking a mobile service.

This was a failure at every level: poor preparation, poor service delivery, and poor customer support. I will not use Halfords again and would strongly warn others against relying on this service.

New battery 72 plate Ford PHEV.

Had a new battery fitted to 72 plate Kuga Hybrid yesterday. The entire experience was 5 star. An experienced technician who explained everything, saved a fortune compared to FORD prices for the same job. All appears working OK so on that basis 5 stars. Andy was the name of the Technician at BANGOR North Wales.

Trying to get a promised refund

Refund on item was promised by a member of staff by phone and I didn't receive it ( all of £9 for a set of bike pedals) I eventually received it after several calls to the supposed online help (using the term 'help' in it's loosest term)! and having to drive 13 miles to a store to talk to a human as opposed to some poxy useless call centre in India.

!!Avoid mobile tyre service!!

Technician damaged 2 of 4 alloys while replacing the tyres, pictures provided to Halfords a week ago have been ignored. There are lots of reputable tyre specialists out there, take your car to a garage and avoid this service.

dont trust Halfords For fitting tyres

Had 2 new tyres fitted on the front of my fiesta at wigan Halfords. On the way home the tyre pressure warning light came on. sensor fault. Took back to halfords who said it was normal wear? . Thi sensor light was not on and has never been on before the new tyres were fitted.
They wanted £100 to fit 2 new sensors. After getting independan professional advice, the most common cause is when the tye is removed and refitted the sensors get damaged. I asked Halfords to remove the tyres and check for damage, they declined. I contacted their complaints dept with my findings. they said nothing more they could do. I have used Halfords since my teen years for bike parts, i have used tyres on the drive and being in the trade numerous car parts. I will never trust halfords again

Ordered a Boardman Bike 10.04.2026

Ordered a Boardman Bike 10.04.2026. Wrong bike delivered to home address and now Halfords can't locate the ordered bike between them and their courier providers. Raised a complaint with little to no response from the complaints team. Handler repeatedly closing off the complaint with no resolution. 25 days on, £1750 out of pocket and no one knows where the ordered bike is !! No customer care or consideration whatsoever. AVOID !!

Warning - Do not use Halfords DPF cleaning service

This is why the high street retailer is dying.

This is my second review regarding an incident with Halfords, and a warning for anyone considering their DPF cleaning service.

On the Halfords website, it states they offer two services: a DPF clean and a DPF flush. The DPF clean uses an OBD2 machine to try and force a DPF regeneration. However, I contacted 13 garages, and none of them have the facility or equipment to do a DPF flush, despite the fact that you can book it. If you book a flush, they will just perform the DPF clean (forced regen) and still charge you for a DPF flush service.

Of the two garages that said they would do the flush, it was simply putting DPF cleaning liquid into the diesel and resetting the DPF sensor. This is extremely dangerous and does not clean the DPF. It only resets the reading to 0%. For example, if the sensor was previously reading 200% and it is reset to 0%, and then later reads 30%, it is actually 230% full because it hasn’t been cleaned. None of the garages I contacted used foam or any correct cleaning procedures.

I addressed this with the garages, and they were fully understanding but stated it was head office's instructions. They are aware that it’s misleading for customers, but it’s out of their hands.

I tried to contact the directors (their details are public information: first name, then a dot, followed by their last name at halfords.co.uk), but they didn’t care and couldn’t be bothered to respond. I was forwarded to another staff member who completely ignored me and my emails were blocked.

I have contacted Trading Standards and they agreed it is misleading and false advertising.

Amazon is considerably cheaper for products and local garages value their customers' return business.
Stay away from all Halfords services.

Very rude

Very rude, ignorant staff in the Liffey Valley Retail Dublin. Go in to buy an item left standing at the counter while the 2 staff members have a laugh and joke in their own Indian language. Then when they do choose to serve me they have no manners, dump the change on the counter don't give a receipt and not even a please or thank you and still continue to talk to each other. I'd say its the worst customer service ive ever come across in all the years ive worked in retail. You seriously need to either retrain your staff or get new ones. Definitely will not recommend this shop to any of my customers.
