Thank you Oliver Hun at t Gates of Stevenage…

I had been researching on line for a car suitable for taking my husband out. Eventually liked the Ford Tourneo. Got lots of offers from dealers on line; then saw a picture of a vehicle in Gates of Stevenage.

I paid the deposit and then set about making arrangements to pick up the vehicle. It was not at all straightforward since I rely on carers to be with my husband while I am out.

Sales executive Oliver Hunt went to great lengths to facilitate the pick up. He even got all the paperwork ready in advance to speed up the transaction.
He dealt with a few setbacks on the day with patience and empathy.A credit to a long established family firm.
Thank you Oliver.

Extremely bad aftercare service

Extremely bad aftercare service. Make sure you know exactly what you're buying from this company, do your research, ask alot of questions, repeat them again then repeat back the answers and get things in writing. I have bought the same motor a few times before from here for my gates - I have two gates and the motors usually only last about five years. As usual I provided the details of the existing inground gate motor which needed replacing. I was expecting an exact replacement but the shark motor they sent me was a model with a new shape at the base and it wouldn't fit the existing bolts. I called up and was told I should have asked for the old shape motor. I explained I was never told there was a new shape and my account would show I previously ordered the old shape on at least two occasions. After much insistence and various phone calls they agreed to an exchange as long as I returned the heavy gate motor at personal cost. I just wanted my gate fixed as quickly as possible so I spent another £23.40 on top of the cost of the gate motor £296.29. They then called me up and said that the returned motor looked like it had been taken out of the packaging and so they couldn't refund me or agree to an exchange. I said they already knew this in previous correspondences because it was only when the electrician lowered the new motor into the inground box that he realised the base of the motor didn't fit. At no time was anything else done to the motor.
In the end I was over £300 out of pocket and had to buy another motor from elsewhere because I refused to give this company another penny.
Buy from this company at your peril.

POSTED AFTER READING COMPANY REPLY:
There was no damage to the gate motor when it was returned by the engineer installing it. It was never installed, as mentioned in the company response, because it wouldn’t fit into the underground box and it if it had I wouldn’t have needed to arrange a return. The engineer had tried and that’s when he found it was the wrong fit and a mistake must’ve been made. Because it was the wrong motor it couldn’t be installed but the point is the error was made at the point of sale in the first place when we weren’t told there was a new shape and we needed an old one which I’d always ordered previously on out account.

Hello

My apologies for the delay in coming back to you, it took us some time to locate your order and return information as it was all processed nearly two years ago.

I understand your frustration, our sales team should have practised due diligence and asked which version of the motor you needed. Sadly, this did not happen and for that we apologise. Our sales teams have since gone through new product training to ensure we do not miss this in the future.

Unfortunately, the reason the refund for the motor was declined was not because it had been taken out of the packaging or "lowered down", it was because the unit had been damaged, the cables had been cut, the casing was scratched, it was very dirty and covered in cobwebs - all of which suggesting that the unit had been fully installed in the ground, not just taken out of the box. If that was the case, we would have issued a refund in good faith and simply replaced the box.

As was explained at the time, we're unable to issue a credit for items that have been installed, in use or damaged.

I'm sorry we weren't able to help you on this occasion.

Kind Regards,
Rebecca

Frustrating problems

I've awarded only two stars because the company's after sales support is not good.
I bought a Proteco gate kit from them and I have experienced many problems, ln fairness their technical department has tried to suggest solutions, some of which worked but some didn't. Two examples: gate not opening/closing every time and opening but stopping half way, as well as other frustrating events.
The problems were reported well within the warranty period, but now it's out of warranty they have offered only a "goodwill gesture" of 10% discount on new controllers. That meant I would have to pay close on £80 to possibly, but not certainly, overcome one of the problems that have been reported during warranty.
I'm certainly not going to fall for that one when there's a chance of no improvement in reliability. I'll probably strip the system out, take it to the tip and buy another make locally.
I normally buy locally, but was tempted by a small price saving, Lesson learned - always buy complex items locally, don't buy from a company 200 miles away just to save a few pounds.

Hello,

Firstly, I must apologise for the delay in responding. We have been on skeletal staff during the COVID-19 pandemic and it has caused delays in many areas.

We have had a look in to your complaint and can see that after going through troubleshooting with our technical team in July 2019, we suggested that you return the remotes to us for testing under our "return to base" warranty policy. We were unable to find a problem with all three of the remotes that were returned, after they were confirmed as fully functioning, they were returned to you. We would only replace an item under warranty if we are able to identify a manufacturing defect.

Several months later, and outside of the warranty period, you contacted us and advised you had another issue and would like the remotes to be exchanged for a different model. As the remotes were now outside of warranty, and had already been confirmed as fully functioning, we are not able to exchange them under warranty for you.

As a gesture of goodwill, you were offered a discount on replacements should you wish to upgrade, you chose to decline our offer and go elsewhere.

While I appreciate your frustration, we simply cannot replace items - or exchange them as requested - under warranty if a manufacturing defect is not identifiable.

I am sorry we did not meet your expectations.

Kind Regards,
Rebecca

Rather than leaving a terrible rating

Rather than leaving a terrible rating, I am go to update this through this, process as I have read a lot of bad reviews regarding communication especially when it come to returns. I brought some gate motors (august 19) for a client who had a lot of follow up work for me, I employed a specialist gate fitter to install and thought that was that. I spent a good 20 mins on the phone to Craig in their sales team before purchasing and he was very helpful at this point, I felt I was buying the best quality gate motors they had available, I did get the impression they were part of the company manufacturing them as he was talking about making parts up. After a month of being installed there were a number of issues with the motors opening and closing to different points or not opening at all even after a further visits from installer. I contacted Craig, obviously frustrated as the neither the client, installer or myself was happy with the product. I was spoken to very bluntly and told they must be driving through the gates incorrectly or it is an user error. I was emailed some pages over, which I passed on and as predicted there was nothing in there that wasn't already being done. the gate motors were disconnected in February and have since been replaced by the original installer with a branded reliable set. there has not be a single problem since, no matter how they're driven through. I have packaged them up and will be attempting to return them as they should be under warranty and should be refunded. I have collected a huge amount of photographic and video evidence over the time they were connected so it will be interesting to see the next response.

Hi Ben,
I am sorry you feel that our service and products only deserve 2 Stars. We pride ourselves on the quality of the products we supply and do not offer any which are not Italian in origin as they are the market leaders in gate automation unlike numerous other websites that offer Chinese alternatives. Proteco, Nice, FAAC and Came are all well-known global brands with tried and tested products. After reviewing all your telephone calls with our technical department, we see that our operative asked numerous questions that was to allow them to troubleshoot the issue you were experiencing. You thanked our operative for the information and nobody ever called back. That was four months ago and now we are very confused why no phone call was made if you had any further issue. The product you purchased is tried and tested and has had many thousands sold worldwide.
As for the manner in which you were spoken to, our Sales & Tech Support departments take great pride in providing a very high service level. If you scan some of our previous reviews you will see some high praise for both teams. Looking back through the communication between yourself and our sales/tech teams there is no evidence or suggestion of being spoken to bluntly. I have listened to the calls personally made between yourself and the teams at Gate Motors and am completely satisfied our tone and manner was in no way blunt. You even thanked our operatives for advice you were given. I can provide you with the recordings to listen back yourself if you wish as we have nothing to hide. We have attempted to make contact with you since seeing this review but you have not responded to our calls.
In order to proceed with this situation please can you provide us with the photographic and video evidence you mentioned in your post with a photo of the circuit board in operation.

Thanks, Nathan

Extremely helpful company but the Diamond 3Ti/4Ti product lacks maintenance option.

Extremely helpful company. Assisted sourcing replacement gate motors and delivered quickly. One point to note is that the design could be more robust as the swing arm cogs are made of a tough nylon which run up and down the worm drive. There is no way to maintain the unit and to get at the cog drive assembly you have to cut into the unit. With normal operation those arms last about 6 years. My next door neighbours lasted that long and mine (same design) lasted 9yrs as it's not operated nearly as much until one arm failed due to the worn plastic cog. Expensive to replace and no way to maintain (regular greasing option). That's the price of securing your property. Other than that a great product and very reliable up to the failure point.
