I enrolled as a franchisee in a franchise business which was not returning a profit. As a result, I wanted to leave the franchise because I was struggling to pay the monthly franchise fees. While researching online, I found franchiseproblemsolutions, which offered mediation services. After a couple of emails and calls with Tony Bowman, we paid him by bank transfer.

Tony suggested pursuing a group claim and advised me to contact other franchisees in similar situations, which I did. However, after forwarding the information to him, I did not receive any guidance on the next steps for the group claim. Later, Tony mentioned that I could potentially get my initial franchise fee back by filing a claim for damages in small claims court. I found the link online and sent it to Tony for confirmation and further instructions, but I did not receive any response on how to proceed.

At some point, I asked Tony if I should contact the franchisor myself to negotiate an exit, but he advised against it. Whenever Tony called, I would ask him when he would send out communications, and he would assure me that he would do it by the end of the day or the next day. Despite following up with emails and texts, I did not receive any confirmation that he had sent any communications.

Several months later, I requested a full refund from Tony, but he declined, stating that he had provided us with sympathetic advice. I informed him that I had to contact and liaise with the franchisor myself directly. Tony then clarified that he does not get involved with franchisors. It would have been helpful to know this beforehand, as we might not have chosen his mediation services if we had been aware of this limitation.

Just want to say a massive thank you to Tony. With his help and expertise myself and my business partner were able to exit our franchise agreement. His knowledge and support helped us from beginning to end at a very reasonable cost.

Having encountered the "real" side of franchises Tony was there to help and assist.
Even though all the due diligence was undertaken, like many franchisees I end up taking legal action against my franchisors through no fault of my own.
However the law appears to still favour the franchisor so, there's little you can do. Franchise Problem Solutions were excellent at guidance, mediation and even recommended a superb solicitor to work on my behalf.

We highly recommend Franchise Problem Solutions. We were franchisees of two unhealthy franchises and we were able to exit both with their help. Sadly, in spite of doing due diligence, many franchisees end up in deep water with their franchisors through no fault of their own, and unless you pay hefty penalties or take expensive legal action, there's little you can do. Franchise problem solutions were excellent at guidance, and directing us to a positive outcome in both cases, mitigating many of the costs we'd have incurred using a solicitor from the get-go.
