Avoid Expedia for Car Rentals
Avoid Expedia for Car Rentals
I am writing this to warn others about the deceptive practices involving **Expedia** and their partnership with **SurPrice Car Rental** at the Orlando International Airport (MCO).
The Bait and Switch
Expedia markets SurPrice with a "Good" rating, which is dangerously misleading given their "Poor" standing on TrustPilot and other consumer advocacy sites. I booked a reservation (73364237886296) that was explicitly listed as **"inclusive of all fees, taxes, and charges."** Furthermore, before my trip, I contacted Expedia directly and received confirmation that my personal insurance and credit card coverage would be accepted, with no additional charges due.
The Reality at the Counter
Upon arrival, the experience was a disaster:
* **Insurance Extortion:** SurPrice refused to honor my transferable insurance policies or credit card coverage. They demanded I purchase their internal insurance at limits that are not only exorbitant but, in some cases, exceed legal requirements in Florida.
* **Broken Transparency:** The link to SurPrice’s Terms and Conditions on Expedia’s site was—and still is—broken, making it impossible for a consumer to verify these "requirements" beforehand.
* **Price Inflation:** My "all-inclusive" $57 rental was leveraged into a demand for nearly eight times that amount.
### Total Lack of Accountability
Because of this refusal to honor the booked price, I was forced to abandon the reservation, pay for rideshares, and book a last-minute substitute with Avis. What was supposed to be a **$57** trip ended up costing me nearly **$400**.
When I contacted Expedia to resolve this, they offered no satisfactory settlement or reimbursement for the financial hit I took due to their verified (and incorrect) information. It is negligent that Expedia continues to list SurPrice and similar entities like ZezGo despite known issues and broken documentation links.
**Bottom Line:** Expedia’s "all-inclusive" guarantees are meaningless if they continue to partner with companies that use predatory tactics. Save yourself the stress and the money—book directly with a reputable carrier.
Terrible
Terrible. Lied on hotel description and when contacted them they didn't care. Searched for hotels that offered free airport shuttle and booked based on that. The listing said free airport shuttle and there was not one when I tried to arrange for my daughter.
I booked a package deal through…
I booked a package deal through Expedia,it was not bad price, but when the air Asia changed a flight ,their customer service is totally shit,I tried to get a confirmation email from saying that we are on the flight, that took 5 weeks, then asking questions about baggage allowance, they say we can't answer that, you have to ask air Asia about,u go to them and ask the question, they can't doit ask Expedia about it they just pass the buck to each other,so none of them can answer it,then talking to AI they are completely useless, but then talking to a live person, they are bloody hopeless as well,I will never be using Expedia anymore and air Asia as well, and they have been voted the best low cost airline,it should be the bloody worst airline and Expedia sucks well.
Expedia rip off artists never buy trip protection
Expedia is a rip-off they tell you to buy trip protection insurance for $17.68 expressing that if you don't and you have to make a change you will lose all the money you're putting in so I bought it and it's complete crap they will never refund you unless you got killed by a terrorist or commit suicide they are blatantly lying to our faces to steal our money
AVOID EXPEDIA at all cost
AVOID EXPEDIA at all cost! SCAM !!
I purchased flight to go to miami and realized I booked for the wrong date. I called to try to get it switched and it was too late. The woman proceeded to tell me that she would be able to accommodate me by giving me a discount on my next flight. The next time I was planning a trip she gave me a direct phone number. She transferred me to some guy who booked flight for me and my family. I immediately received a confirmation email with all the booking info but realized later I never got an itinerary number. On the day of the flight my daughter when to the ticket counter and there was no booking. I called and they tried to blame it on Jet Blue. They made me pay extra for a standby ticket to get my daughter on a plan. The rest of the family was due to go the following week. When I repeatedly asked for an itinerary number they kept saying it will come the next day and never did. I later demanded a refund which they sent me an email staying I have to put it in writing but it was all a scam. I ended up buying directly with Jet Blue and contesting the charge with my credit card company. When I followed up by calling Expedia they said that there was no info about my calling and booking and they couldn't help me. They basically didn't care. I should have known better when they told me their names were Kim and John with heavy Indian accents.
Expedia’s customer service is awful
Expedia’s website makes changes/cancellations look fairly easy, however that was not my experience. Their customer service is extremely difficult to navigate and very poor when able to finally talk to a human. Website is misleading. I highly recommend booking directly with hotels. DO NOT use Expedia unless you know 100% you will use the reservation.
Agent accidentally lost $1629 of credit and can't find it
Agents are easy to get ahold of (most of the time), but when you do get to them, they give you different information (I'm talking HUGE discrepancies in sharing policies and rules), keep you on hold for hours with no resolution, and lack the competence to solve problems, and even when it appears the problem is solved, it's done in a way that creates more problems. In my experience specifically, they kept running into errors simply trying to access my residual credit, and in the process of finally using the credit, they accidentally "lost" more than half of it. To put this into perspective, there should've been $1629 credit remaining, and they lost $1132 of that. I have screenshots of the agent admitting to this, which is shocking. I've called back multiple times, have waited hours, have disconnected calls 3+ times, and am pretty sure the most recent agent pretended he couldn’t hear me so he could hang up, since he couldn’t figure out how to resolve it. No resolution has been reached and I'm still trying to get ahold of someone to do something about it, but am losing hope. My husband is filing a lawsuit. They have a great way of making you feel helpless. I will not be using Expedia again and we’ll make sure they hear about this.
Horrible service
Horrible service, stuck in Mexico and cant get help to get tickets even though we had a reservation.
I would give it a zero
I would give it a zero. A typo in reservation resulted in error in my name. I have called twice and filled out their form to correct and after 2 months they have done absolutely nothing to resove the issue or correct the typo.
Terrible customer support
Terrible customer support.
Refusing to refund a booking we were unable to access. Never use this site and book direct
Cancelled booking
I booked with expedia but then discovered that the booking is managed by vrbo
The booking was cancelled and expedia refused to address my issue , diverting me to vrbo. To date vrbo has not responded
I booked with expedia so expect expedia to deal with my issue...
Furthermore if it was made clear that my booking would be managed by another company that is unknown to me I would not have proceeded to start with
The booking process was horrible
The booking process was horrible! The app keeps glitching, I had to have customer service book it for me. I kept selecting Price Drop Protection because I knew prices would drop and apparently it didn’t go through and with prices dropping I’m now being screwed out of saving money. Stupid app, scam company, I will never use Expedia for personal trips again and if I can help it I’ll avoid them for business trips as well.
If you cancel a trip with an emergency…
If you cancel a trip with an emergency they will lie to you everytime they say they'll call the motel to confirm its ok to cancel. If they tell you we cant get a hold of them they are fkn lieing. I had the hotel on another line 5 different times today telling me NO one is calling when they said they were. BEWARE OF THEIR POLICY
Beware - Expedia are Thieves
Beware. Expedia are thieves. I made a car reservation that said "free cancellation within 24 hours" I needed to cancel it right away and they said, "There will a $100 fee for cancellation" Also, they were supposed to refund an additonal insurance policy I bought along with the car rental. They have NOT refunded the money. AVOID EXPEDIA AT ALL COSTS. THEY ARE THIEVES
Booking
Booking, Refund, Cancelation. Do not Trust Expedia!
I booked a hotel room via Expedia.com with insurance to guarantee 100% refund. After being left in Houston by Spirit. I take taxi to the Hotel room and the lady at the front desk sated there are no rooms and I needed to process my refund with Expedia. I contacted Expedia and they processed the refund for $9 the cost of the insurance that guaranteed the refund. I chatted customer service who stated they are at the mercy of the third party.
Airport transfer rip off.
This review is specific to the prepurchased airport transfers, where the taxis failed to appear.
We arrived at Budapest 7th April 2026, and had a voucher for Budride, 3HJ4DZ-1, original time 1705. The flight was changed and a few days before arriving we messaged the driver to say we would arrive at 23.30. He agreed to the change and then failed to turn up. When we phoned the Experia helpline they said there was nothing they could do, so we had to get a local taxi, which cost 11,000 HUF, or about £26. We left on Sat 12th April 2026, 3HJ4DZ-2 and again the driver, a female Iza, who we were messaging, failed to turn up. She then said she had dropped off at the airport and gave a different name to ours. We had to pay for another local taxi, who charged 17,080 HUF or about £40, total cost £66. The prepaid transfer was £78.12, so we should have saved ourselves hassle & money and used local taxis, of which there were many. My wife complained to Experia and we have heard nothing. We feel let down by Experia, the taxi company and the cost, as prepurchasing assumes a lower price than paying at the airport. Holiday Ref 73294347378230
It’s great to compare prices for…
It’s great to compare prices for flights and accommodations but they don’t stand by their guarantees and validations. If you finally get through to someone, they are nice as pie and promise to follow up and then…..silence. In my case a car rental deposit in excess of $2,000 US has still not been refunded (Feb 10, 2026 and it is now May3, 2026) even though car was returned without damage, no tickets and no damage, on time. They still show this provider on their website and the Expedia quality guarantee check mark.
“Booked Through Expedia, Left on My Own”
I am writing this review to formally express my dissatisfaction with the service provided by Expedia.
I purchased two round-trip tickets with Spirit Airlines (Fort Lauderdale – Philadelphia, April 30 to May 5, 2026) through Expedia, trusting them as an intermediary travel agency. While we were in Philadelphia, Spirit Airlines announced the suspension of all its flights starting early morning on May 2, 2026. This immediately created uncertainty regarding our return trip, potential refunds, and overall travel disruption.
Spirit clearly communicated that refunds would only be processed directly for customers who booked through them. Those who booked via third-party agencies were instructed to contact those agencies for resolution. Accordingly, I reached out to Expedia expecting support and accountability.
However, Expedia handled the situation in a dismissive and unprofessional manner. Instead of providing assistance or taking ownership as the intermediary that facilitated the purchase and collected a commission, they effectively redirected responsibility and advised me to contact my bank to see if anything could be done. This response is unacceptable.
As a customer, I paid for a service that includes support in situations exactly like this. Expedia failed to fulfill its role, leaving us without guidance or a solution during a critical travel disruption.
This experience reflects a lack of professionalism, accountability, and customer care. I believe potential customers should be aware that in situations where support is most needed, Expedia may not stand behind the service they sell.
Just as bad as Opodo
Just as bad as Opodo. They're probably all built on the same principle. A booking, wherein my card details are taken, is then reported to be 'no longer available'. I've learned two lessons this evening: never to use Expedia or Opodo.
I would have put a zero if it were…
I would have put a zero if it were offered. I canceled an expensive business class ticket and got a credit. I used their on line agent to book another flight but they did not tell me that I had to use to whole amount. In fact, they said the difference would stay as a credit. It didn't. They took the $2000 difference and now are impossible to contact. The chat agents just send AI slop and the few times I managed to get to a person I was put on hold, held for a long time and then the line went dead. Absolutely abusive lack of customer service. Never use them!
