Red Flag, Red Flag, Red Flag it is Expedia consumer BEWARE!
There should be a red flag system to alert consumers to companies like Expedia. They are in business simply to catch unaware consumers in need of travel services that others offer in a professional and reasonable manner. Expedia on the other hand has the WORST offers, service, support and vendors. They are a scourge on the travel industry. They should be run out of business.
Lost our money!!
We booked a hotel through Expedia- the cost was over $1,000.00. A last minute medical emergency forced us to cancel the reservation. We contacted Expedia for a refund, the denied us the refund and cited the rigid hotel policies as the reason. We contacted the hotel and were told we had to contact Expedia for a refund. Called Expedia back and were unable to get through to Customer service after repeated calls. WE lost our money but WILL NEVER use Expedia again!!
I rented a car through Expedia which…
I rented a car through Expedia which went through Nextcar rental. When I arrived at counter, they asked for my insurance Declaration Page to check for coverage. I didn't have it, they wanted to charge me $46 a day plus rental cost. I never paid for insurance, my credit card covers it and my personal car insurance covers it. Expedia never told me about insurance declaration being required. I saw an email from Nextcar that was sent while I was on the flight for the declaration page, saw it following day after not picking up car. I called Expedia about experience with rental twice, they did not have my back. They called rental company for credit, rental company denied it, Expedia stated, nothing they can do for me. I argued asked for a manager, "we are too busy, they will call you in 30 min". They never called back. I called a week later, Expedia stated same thing, Nextcar denied refund. If Expedia does not guarantee the rental process and rules, rather than have a Nextcar car rental company ripoff people who are tired after a long flight, why use them.
Horrible & callous customer service
Horrible & callous customer service. I had an issue with getting on a flight due to my passport, which wasn’t my fault. So when I called Expedia to explain that I couldn’t board my flight, they gave me two options. One was to cancel with no refund, which was a terrible choice. But the better choice was to simply rebook my flight at a later date, which they happily said they would, to give me time to resolve the passport issue. But suddenly they couldn’t reschedule because magically the two airlines that they booked me with suddenly no longer operated together. They said they could only rebook my departure flight but not my return flight the particular month I was flying. How does that just suddenly happen, that there are no flights available? So I asked them nicely to rebook it a month later. Nope, they couldn’t find any flights. I asked for two months later, trying to be as flexible as possible. Nope, nothing then either. At that point, I became completely shocked they simply wouldn’t honor their promise to rebook my flight because they suddenly couldn’t “find” any flights with the original partner airlines. I asked for any flights with any airlines. Nope they can’t do that because of their “policy”. I asked for refund. No, no refund. I asked for credit to use for future flights. Nope, they don’t do that either. Unbelievable how crooked & corrupt they are! Needless to say, they will never get my business ever again. This experience was a travesty of epic proportions. So I disputed the charges, which was the reasonable & correct reaction. I couldn’t believe how screwed up they are, to try to charge $1205 for flights that I never went on. And that they promised they would rebook but never did. Absolute garbage company with no scruples or ethics. Their customer service is awful. Bad business doesn’t begin to describe them. 👎
Scam !! Forced pretend upgrade with rebook
I've used expedia multiple times for large trips and honestly never had issues before this one. Now this left such a bad taste that I will not be using them anymore! I had a trip to Nashville planned when they got the ice Storm and declared a state of emergency. We had to cancel no biggie ! Expedia refunded everything but flights and gave us credits for the flights. Also ok !!!! We will rebook at some point. So go to rebook flights to Nashville and they force us into a pretend upgrade - nothing with the upgrade no extra no seat selection just double the price ! What a scam !!!
Travelguard Insurance is a scam
Expedia does not care about their clients. My wife and I booked a trip in April 2026 to travel to Las Vegas in August 2026. I also purchased the Travel Guard insurance just in case something happened as our trip was 4 months away. Five days after booking the trip my wife accepted a new job offer that did not allow her to take any vacation time until after our travel dates due to training. I cancelled the hotel, no issues. Frontier Airlines charged us $398 in cancellation fees and only credited us $99 in Frontier travel credit. I filed a claim with Travel Guard insurance and they tell me that they will not honor the claim because it's not a qualifying event. Now if the job involuntary transferred my wife 100 miles away, then they would cover it but we would need to get a NOTARIZED document from the employer. When I called Travel Guard to fight them, we were looking at two different policies. I was being proactive by booking early to get a better price and cancelling early to make sure I get my money back. Now they are sending me the correct policy because the one online is useless but for what, for me to make up a medical issue. Further, because I cancelled 5 days after purchasing the trip, my documentation has to be within the 5 days. I cannot say we got sick because they will respond by saying, "you will get better in four months." After reading the policy, they will not cover cancellations due to pregnancy or pre-existing medical conditions but rest assure, they will cover you if you get HIJACKED! Lunacy is what this is. Why does Expedia partner with companies like Frontier or Travel Guard. With the amount of business Expedia generates Frontier (because that is a crappy airline) they should waive fees for customers booking through Expedia. DO NOT EVER PURCHASE TRAVEL GUARD INSURANCE. Might as well take your chances, you're not getting your money either way
Expedia has lost a very loyal customer
Cambridge Inn by Capitol O , located in Cambridge, OH
is out of business, yet Expedia still allows customers to book rooms there. Expedia has clearly failed to do its job verifying the status of the properties it lists.
I highly recommend staying away from Expedia and using competitors like Booking.com, Hotels.com, Priceline, Kayak, or any other travel service you can find.
Over the last 5 years, I’ve booked hundreds of hotel nights, along with dozens of flights and rental cars through Expedia. After all that loyalty, they now seem more interested in protecting a hotel that has gone out of business than taking responsibility for the situation or helping their customers.
Why enjoy your holiday when you can book with Expedia instead?
I had a 16h journey booked KL to London 10th of May. My connecting flight was brought forward by 50 minutes so my first flight was moved from 10am to 2am (2h connection changed to 9h connection) without me being alerted via email or anything.
Emirates told me I could rebook on an alternative connecting flight the same day for free through my booking provider (back to a 16h journey). So I reached out to Expedia three separate times because I am disconnected and my chat is reset when I'm inactive for less than a minute after waiting 30 of the 3-5 minutes for a response. When I finally did get through I was told that Expedia would not rebook me onto the flight because they had run out of economy seats because of the chat problems.
So I tried (once again multiple times because I was reset or agents gave up and left the chat) to move my flight to another day so it was back to 16h (a move that Emirates confirmed is free from them). But poor Expedia could have lost out on the sale of those seats so they have refused to give me any alternative flight which Emirates are proving FOR FREE.
I have wasted hours and lots of sleep going in circles trying to sort out my journey home and Expedia have made it as frustrating and difficult as possible while actively blocking me from making a free move offered by the airline because there is a small chance of them making a small amount of money off someone else.
Would highly recommend if you enjoy hitting your head against walls for hours on end. Otherwise avoid like the plague and just book whatever you need directly through the provider
While the disruption is due to troubles in the Middle East, the handling of my flights can in no way be blamed on that. They are caused by a mixture of an awful chat function, uninformed help agents and a mission to put potential profits before the promises made to existing customers.
AWFUL
AWFUL! I booked through them for the price I saw online and I decided to book. They sent me an itinerary and advised what the cost would be. I was required to put a deposit down. I did. I called the hotel the day before my scheduled arrival to advise I needed a late check in. They couldn't find my reservation. Advised me to call EXPEDIA. Spoke to someone who told me they failed to lock in the reservation with the hotel and proceeded to book the room for me while I was on the phone with them and told me the price I originally had was no longer valid and that there was nothing they can do and I needed to contact the hotel. The new price was more than $100 more per night. I expressed my frustration and he rudely told me that I could take it or not. I asked for a manager and he refused to allow me to speak to someone and hung up. I called the hotel and there was nothing they could do regarding the price. Told me to call back on the day of my arrival. I called Expedia back and requested my deposit back due to their error. They hung up on me TWICE and refused to give me my refund BACK. I will NEVER use them again or their customer service agents out of India.
Scam alert:Unknown to me my search for…
Scam alert:Unknown to me my search for a hotel reservation was rerouted to one of Expedia affiliates Hotel Planner, for one night of stay in Reno NV they quoted me $332, but they added another $130 as FEES!!what a ridiculous and scamming operation, and when I called them to object they hung up on me. Could have gotten the same room for $260 if I contacted the hotel directly. Stay away from Expedia all together
I've used Expedia a lot and for many…
I've used Expedia a lot and for many years. Recently my bookings have not been refundable even when I book a refundable property.
Today I was unable to view or respond to messages from the property where I am staying. I could write a message that never was seen by the host and I got emails telling me the host had sent a message but the message never appeared, I only got a blank screen.
Expedia has gone from fine to terrible in the past year.
BE AWARE - PRICE ADVERTIZED IS NOT THE PRICE THEY CHARGE
I used to use this website for booking a few years back and everything was fine but my latest experience showed that they are just a bunch of scammers. They advertised a lower price, I have submitted my information for the reservation but once I received the confirmation the price was $300 more that was shown at the time of booking. No warning of price change or anything. I called to enquire about this unauthorized additional charge and was put on hold for over 15 min and then the call was disconnected. Took me several tries to reach somebody again after which I was told that "they are just an agent and price is what it is" and "they don't provide a warning of a price change". Ended up canceling the booking and was told that refund would take 7-10 business days (yet they charged my card within seconds)... What kind of customer service is that?
Useless rental car insurance
When i purchased car insurance they failed to tell me it's useless in Dominican Republic, so guess what i had to pay for more insurance when I picked up the car. After not finding a suitable way to get a refund I'm giving. I will never use Expedia again. Oh, and as I'm standing at the counter the gentleman to my right said the same thing happened to him.
Worst ever and will never use yall ever…

Be careful when booking through Expedia!
Be careful when booking through Expedia.
I recently booked a hotel stay through Expedia because I trusted the platform’s marketing and believed they offered some of the best available prices. I did not even check the hotel’s direct rate beforehand because I assumed Expedia would be competitive.
After check-out, I asked the hotel for the official invoice and was shocked to discover that the direct hotel price for the exact same stay, room, dates, and conditions was approximately 173 EUR lower than what Expedia charged me.
When I contacted Expedia, they explained that this is part of their business model and that they apply their own pricing and margins. While this may be legal, it was extremely disappointing and not transparent from a customer perspective.
My advice to travelers: always compare prices directly with the hotel before booking through third-party platforms. Expedia’s claims about offering the “best prices” do not necessarily reflect the actual lowest available rate.
Very disappointing experience!!!
Scammed through Expedia
We recently went to Florida and used Expedia to “bundle and save.”
When we got to Florida, Expedia had set us up with a car rental company that was a complete SCAM. The company that Expedia, “the trusted and peace of mind company,” had chosen to set us up with was called Zezgo. First off, this rental company was off site….. No big deal… Except when you have 3 small children and it’s 20 minutes off site. Ok, I can deal with that, I just want to get my family to the resort.
When we arrived at Zezgo, thats where the true disgust comes in. They hit us with a surprise $500 required payment to increase our insurance, and also a $200 hold, just in case we decided to drive through tolls (we took no toll roads). We have NEVER had to pay extra like this. It did NOT save us to bundle with Expedia. And when we looked into the other car rental places, NONE of the other ones charged a surprise $500. It was however going to be more than $500 for a last minute car rental at another company. We got completely screwed by Expedia. And to top it off, when we contacted customer support during this debacle, they were absolutely NO help. I strongly recommend you plan your trip yourself. Never again will we get “bundle and screwed” by Expedia again.

False advertising. No attempt to resolve the issue. Will never use again.
Avoid Expedia for Car Rentals
Avoid Expedia for Car Rentals
I am writing this to warn others about the deceptive practices involving **Expedia** and their partnership with **SurPrice Car Rental** at the Orlando International Airport (MCO).
The Bait and Switch
Expedia markets SurPrice with a "Good" rating, which is dangerously misleading given their "Poor" standing on TrustPilot and other consumer advocacy sites. I booked a reservation (73364237886296) that was explicitly listed as **"inclusive of all fees, taxes, and charges."** Furthermore, before my trip, I contacted Expedia directly and received confirmation that my personal insurance and credit card coverage would be accepted, with no additional charges due.
The Reality at the Counter
Upon arrival, the experience was a disaster:
* **Insurance Extortion:** SurPrice refused to honor my transferable insurance policies or credit card coverage. They demanded I purchase their internal insurance at limits that are not only exorbitant but, in some cases, exceed legal requirements in Florida.
* **Broken Transparency:** The link to SurPrice’s Terms and Conditions on Expedia’s site was—and still is—broken, making it impossible for a consumer to verify these "requirements" beforehand.
* **Price Inflation:** My "all-inclusive" $57 rental was leveraged into a demand for nearly eight times that amount.
### Total Lack of Accountability
Because of this refusal to honor the booked price, I was forced to abandon the reservation, pay for rideshares, and book a last-minute substitute with Avis. What was supposed to be a **$57** trip ended up costing me nearly **$400**.
When I contacted Expedia to resolve this, they offered no satisfactory settlement or reimbursement for the financial hit I took due to their verified (and incorrect) information. It is negligent that Expedia continues to list SurPrice and similar entities like ZezGo despite known issues and broken documentation links.
**Bottom Line:** Expedia’s "all-inclusive" guarantees are meaningless if they continue to partner with companies that use predatory tactics. Save yourself the stress and the money—book directly with a reputable carrier.
Terrible
Terrible. Lied on hotel description and when contacted them they didn't care. Searched for hotels that offered free airport shuttle and booked based on that. The listing said free airport shuttle and there was not one when I tried to arrange for my daughter.
