My mother needed a wheelchair to get to the gate. We had one booked in advance. The staff were extremely rude and barked orders to me. I speak fluent German. They were absolutely horrible to us and I will avoid Düsseldorf airport in future. I am still upset at the treatment we were given and I will never understand how these people get jobs in hospitality. A horrible experience.
Same as others have said, passport control experience was terrible
Really poor experience as many, many others have mentioned on here that arrival passport control are super, super slow and staff rude. In the non EU line don't even bother greeting staff in german as they don’t respond at all and of every country i have visited this airport staff check every stamp in my passport 3 times extremely slowly. The time taken was just not acceptable and for no reason at all and they were doing it to everyone. I have visited germany so many times and lived and worked here and the Düsseldorf airport welcome is just not one that would make me want to return. If you want to put tourists off from visiting then you are going the right way about it, there are lots of other countries to spend my tourist money in. Will not be using the airport again and cannot recommend flying into it for a trip to germany. Never had a similar experience at any other airport.
What a mess
What a mess, Monday morning and they have 1 security line open. And no water fountain. The exact opposite of German efficiency.
Rude staff
Rude staff, extremely painful and long security checks. The worst Airport experience I have ever had!
Shambolic
Completely farcical, over an hours to check in… we were unable to do this online so had to wait in a queue, with other flights getting pulled to the front. Then we joined the security line, at point where the line split was told to join a different queue which by all accounts took 3 times as long. We had arrived 2 and a half hours before our flight and didn’t even get the time to use the loo, let alone grab some breakfast or waste money on duty free.
Our experience at Passport Control on 23/12/2025.
Our experience at Passport Control on the 23/12/2025 at Gate C Dusseldorf was an absolute disgrace. We were pushed into a line like cattle and had to queue for over 2 hours. This was the queue for Non-eu citizens. The eu citizens could just go to the their station and walk through. At one stage there were 2 non-eu citizens open and 5 eu citizens stations open. At one stage there were no eu citizens waiting to go through. If Germany don't want us (non-eu citizens) to visit their country then they need to say so. None of this had anything to do with the new eu requirements or technology. It is a disgrace. Do not go!!!!
Where shall I start?
Where shall I start?
I can't give 0 so I give 1. Pitty that we can't give 0.
We came today on 20/12 at around 4:30 o'clock in the morning. We tried several times to check in faster by Eurowings but machines for incheck were also overloaded.
Around 1,5 hours waiting to inchecken is not normal. Then gate control around 1 hour.
We came to A33 gate at 06:51. Shuttle bus was still there and people were inside. We couldn't get it. Safety procedures.
We were not called on speaker, and I know that we were not the only with this problem.
Plane EW9530 to Alicante (Eurowings) took of at 07:35 but there was no place for me, my spouse, my mother in law and 3 small children.
I don't want to be unpolite but service is better in Cabo Verde (personal experience) than in Germany, Düsseldorf Airport!
Tell me Management of this airport why should I even think to fly from Düsseldorf airport after such experience???
Dirty… inefficient
Dirty… inefficient, chaotic. Very poor choice of food. Dirty toilets. Unfriendly staff. Mostly Arabs or Turkish. No English.
Germanys second largest airport is probably the worst in Europe.
The best thing… the highlight of this place is the man behind the bar (sportsbar??). Funny, friendly. 👍🏻👍🏻
Probably the most unfriendly and slow…
Probably the most unfriendly and slow security and passport control I have visited. Avoid this airport if you can.
Most humillating security staff ever
Frequent flyer, knowing more then 100 airports around the globe, but this Airport has a rude and disrespectful security staff and police officer.
You can really feel that these "people" think they are something better than others. No kindness, no respect, no social behavior, arrogant and humiliating.
I was threaten better in the US and China, then in a supposed democratic and developed country like Germany.
Rude and Disrespectful Security Staff
I was going through security checks today (number 2, around 1pm, with the middle-aged blonde security lady) and she asked me to stop. She wanted to check whether I had anything in my trousers and asked me to lift my legs. I tried, but I honestly couldn’t — I’m almost 60 years old and my back is playing up, so I just wasn’t able to. She seemed to think I was making fun of her and was incredibly rude to me. I felt really humiliated.
It’s such a shame, because behaviour like this impacts the whole experience, despite the hard work of other people at the airport who are polite and professional. This kind of attitude shouldn’t be allowed. it is discriminating and bullying. I’m not surprised now that there are so many bad reviews about similar incidents with this disrespectful security team.
I am writing to express my strong…
I am writing to express my strong dissatisfaction with the food offerings in the secure area, particularly around Pier B / Gate B71. As I am on a connecting flight, I only have access to restaurants and cafés inside the departures area. I found no restaurants where I could order freshly prepared food; everything seemed to be pre‑made, and there was a complete lack of customizable or “real” food options that met even basic dietary preferences.
To make matters worse, I have dietary restrictions: I cannot eat butter, cheese, sauces, etc., and there was literally no place that could provide a simple, plain hot meal. This is completely unacceptable for an international airport, especially given the length of my layover and the upcoming long flight.
I believe the airport should seriously rethink its food service strategy for Pier B:
• Introduce at least one made-to-order food outlet in Pier B.
• Ensure some menu items are plain and customizable, to support passengers with dietary restrictions.
• Improve signage for existing food places so travelers can easily locate them.
I am sending this feedback not just out of frustration, but because I care — it would significantly improve the passenger experience. I have been up since 3:00 AM, took a flight to Düsseldorf hoping to be able to eat while waiting 3 hours for my next flight (another 4-hour flight to my destination). This situation is unacceptable and needs urgent attention.
I hope you will take this seriously and make changes to improve the experience for future travellers.
Very bad service
Very bad service don’t recommend any using this airport
They don't speak English at an…
They don't speak English at an international airport , so it's impossible to explain you are overcharged. If you ask if they speak English they switch off.
Worst airport I've traveled from
If you can choose another airport, by means, don't hesitate. Security check was impossible. A lot of people were waiting and only 2 lanes were open at 6 30 in the morning in gate A! 2 lanes, out of 5! A lot of people were asking for a solution and all the staff said there were not enough persons to process travelers hand luggage. Meanwhile, there were 4 employees chatting merrily on another lane that was not functional. I missed my flight because of this and had to rebook. And somehow... it was my fault because reasons. The person at the gate told me I used the wrong security gate check... well, not all of us know all airports by heart, especially when flying for the first time on that airport.
Also, parking and car rental return is impossible in the early hours in the morning. The employees gave me wrong directions, made me run around the parking for return. I had to convince a guy that i could not make a right because the road was closed by two advertising panel. And somehow... I was the one being stupid,as I was asked what language I spoke:))) Very frustrating situation, I have never, ever missed a flight while being inside the airport with the luggage left at drop-off. I will never fly again on this airport!!!
The employee at the airport are not…helping passengers even to answer simple questions or to give direction.
The employee at the airport are not help some, very rude, the check in machine aren't working for all passports. How can a plan leave behind more than 10 passengers? Why close the gates so earlier without considering the passengers that aren't able to check in by themselves. I have never seen such behavior in any airport before.
I’ve traveled all over the world
I’ve traveled all over the world, and Düsseldorf Airport consistently ranks among the worst. I come here frequently and the experience is always the same: painfully slow due to a lack of staff.
• Baggage claim: expect to wait at least an hour for your luggage, whether arriving from Europe or internationally.
• Check-in: almost entirely electronic kiosks, with barely any staff available to help.
• Duty free: overpriced and not worth it.
• Passport control: usually one officer handling hundreds of passengers — the queues are endless.
It honestly feels like Germany can’t be bothered to staff its airports properly. Every visit here is frustrating, and unfortunately nothing ever seems to improve.
On July 29, 2025, between 5:30 PM and 7:00 PM, I wanted to exit Parking Lot P2 at Düsseldorf Airport after returning from a trip abroad. I hold a valid European Disabled Parking Card, and had confirmed in advance by phone that I could park there for free.
When I tried to leave, the intercom at the barrier didn’t respond – even after multiple attempts and over 30 minutes of waiting each time. Despite my mobility impairment, I had to walk several times to the parking service desk, where I was told no help could be provided. I was later given a phone number, but the staff member hung up on me during the explanation – with no comment or support.
Only after another attempt via the intercom did someone finally open the gate – more than an hour later, after repeated walking and waiting in pain.
This experience was physically and emotionally exhausting. I have a disability in my left foot, and due to all the unnecessary walking, I was in pain for several days.
I expect a formal apology, an internal review of this incident, and most of all, that people with mobility issues are treated with respect and helped immediately in the future.
