I looked for a ferry of the Danish Alslinjen. Strange enough the first WEB-Page Google offered was not the home page of Alslinjen, but Direct Ferries.
So my first assumption was that Alslinjen was now handling their booking via a joined portal with other ferries.
I got suspicious, when I saw that the price Direct Ferries offered was more than double the price of Alslinjen!
So, in contradiction to their name"Direct Ferries", this is not a direct booking at your ferry operator, but a broker which is ripping you off with excessive pricing!
Additionally, when you do a booking , it responds with a statement, that this was not a booking, but a booking request by you, which will be answered within 48 hours. - What a nonsens! - When you book directly at Alslinjen, you get the booking confirmation immediately!
So: fingers off Direct Ferries, they are bluntly cheating you!
P.s.:
Later on Direct Ferries replied that this excessive price of 872,99 kr for the tur-retour trip was due to a price change of the ferry operator.
This i snot true. Alslinjen did not change the price, it was all the time 320,- kr for the same trip.

We booked an outer cabin,and paid more for this than an inner cabin. With a couple of months to go I recieved a generic email to state my upgrade had been processed. When logging in to my account in transpired the 'upgrdade' was to an inner cabin! This meant I had paid more than I should for the cabin...not exactly an upgrade! I had to email the company to ask for the difference to be refunded,this was not offered to me.

It’s a scam, you book your ferries on the date you want to sail, but get a confirmation on mail with complete different sailing dates.
We booked with flex, so we can change the dates, but this is completely impossible to change.
So we lost 3500 dkr. ( 470 euro )

Avoid this company at all costs. I booked a ticket for my family and a car and then waited weeks for them to confirm the booking. By the time I chased them down and got an answer from them, they simply said by booking wasn't confirmed and now there's no availability so I haven't been charged. I now can't get a ferry for days either side of the start of the holiday. So it's ruined.

Just booked tickets for Cherbourg and got a series of strange emails saying that I had requested a cancellation and refund which I did not. Also saying the the refund may not be paid for several days. in the meantime I don't know if I have tickets or if this is a scam. The cost of the tickets has been removed from my account.

Avoid this company. I made a booking for a ferry crossing and bought the "cancel for any reason" insurance which clearly states "100% ticket refund". A normal person would assume this insurance would give them a 100% refund of the ticket price they've paid, right? The terms and conditions state in bold that "You will be refunded for the full price of your ferry ticket only". Thats how policies like this work? You pay slightly more the the benefit of knowing you can get a refund minus the insurance premium and booking fees, right? Wrong. I simply questioned the maths and was told my total amount paid "include the insurance price, the booking fees and the ticket price that you were refunded". What the terms and conditions don't say is that on top of the cancellation fee and admin fee there is also (in my case) a 33% mark up from the price Direct Ferries charge and the ticket price the actual ferry company charge. You do NOT get this back!
I provided a copy of my receipt. Despite this clear evidence Direct Ferries stated that they had "confirmed the ACTUAL ticket price with the ferry company" and as such were only prepared to pay me 75% of what my literal invoice had listed under 'ticket'. It was at least 15 emails back and forth questioning basic maths and basically being gaslighted by customer service before they finally cracked and told me the the reminder "was considered a fee" by Direct Ferries.
So... if you apply this insurance you DO get a 100% refund of the ticket.... But not before they take a 33% cut (in my case). Nobody does this! In my opinion it is a blatant missell of the insurance policy. Fortunately for me this was a small amount and more of an annoyance then anything else, but if you are making larger bookings I would advise to you take note of my experience.

Their login keeps telling me that the booking reference is not a match. With that I am completely stuck to do anything about my return ticket. No customer support, a non-functioning chat bot. Complete lockout.

Terrible customer care service.
Booked to travel to Isle of wight with the motorcycle. Changed the booking yesterday to travel by car ( as I've had surgery and cannot travel by motorcycle) .
I did the changes via their email confirmation system which automatically changed the sailing time which was ok. They send an email and you click to confirm which I did .
I even have a copy saying confirmed in big red letters with the price of the changes.
The changes were confirmed on their system too I checked.
DO NOT TRUST THIS SYSTEM. -
Luckily I asked a question. I got a response from customer service responding not to my question but emailing another copy of the original booking. Good job I re-checked booking today.
The booking has not been changed. They have told me all ferry crossings are full.
They are not taking responsibility of this blip in the system and are now ignoring my emails.
Have offered me no solutions. I've booked and paid for my accommodation so can't change the dates.
I've contacted the ferry company directly and they have been more helpful saying there is some availability but sadly I need to deal with direct ferries or rebook with them and loose my money with direct ferries.
This seems grossly unfair considering it's their system or staff that has messed this up. Thinking of going to ATOL. Direct ferries don't have a phone number to speak to anyone.
Re - because of their customer service department are now ignoring my emails and offering no solutions.
I have now rebooked myself with the ferry company.
Repaid in full with the ferry company- - there was some availability despite direct ferries saying there wasn't any and my ticket being changeable.
It just seemed to be the easiest solution as I'm leaving on Friday morning . Will be contacting ATOL about this.
My advice DO NOT book with direct ferries!!!! They are unprofessional and don't know what they are doing.

Dreadful customer care! I booked through them before I was aware that I could get a 20% reduction as a 75 year old passenger. They told me that I should ask DFDS. DFDS sent me back to them. They opened a ticket on my query, told me that they were waiting for an answer from DFDS then closed my ticket without resolving the issue. I have tried to contact them repeatedly since without success
