Worth the Wait

My size of pocket door was out of stock but well worth the wait. I thought the unit was expensive until I saw the finished article. Claira was super helpful when I asked about a part. Delighted.

Not fit for purpose and appalling customer service

We have recently converted a garage into a home office and ordered what we thought were solid oak external doors from this company. They were fitted and stained following the instructions. It turns out they were veneer and the Ronseal product used made the veneer split and warp. They leak around the glass pains. There was nothing in the instructions to warn against this product and DirectDoors have denied all liability referring to small print saying that all customers should ring the manufacturer of the treatment before applying! Indeed it wasn't even clear they were veneer. These Cottage oak doors were clearly not fit for external use and the instructions were poor. The company's customer service was appalling and they have attempted to blame us for their poor quality product and refused to give a refund or replacement. It took weeks to get a response and they kept asking for more information to try to find an excuse to avoid liability. The doors were £1700. We will be reporting them to trading standards. Do NOT buys doors from here.

Hi Katherine,

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to leave your review.

Please let me summarize your review in bullet points.

• It is clearly stated on our website that the doors you have purchased are engineered with a real oak veneer.
• We do advise to check with the manufacturer for the chosen finish to ensure it is compatible with the door itself but this information is available prior to purchasing the goods.
• The doors are suitable for external use however, as with any engineered timber door, they must be treated correctly to ensure adequate protection from the elements.
• As the doors were out of care, treated and hung, then it can take a bit of back and forth to investigate fully. I understand this is frustrating but for us to have the full picture of the concerns raised, then this can take some time.
• Our Customer Service Team contacted Ronseal directly who informed them that the product used was not suitable for engineered timber as it did not offer adequate protection and causing the product to soak into the wood and effect the glue which holds it together.

Should there be anything further you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Ordered a door in October, still not received.

Ordered and paid for a door in October and we still haven’t received. We were originally told November, then December and now after I had to call to chase that it won’t be delivered now until January. We were also told we couldn’t get money back as it’s a bespoke door so now just have to wait. Such poor customer service from managing expectations to lack of communication to getting the impression they just don’t care now they have our money.

Hello,

Firstly, I would like to thank you for taking the time to leave your review.

Unfortunately, we had to get the pocket cassette in from the factory based in Italy as the stock was not available in our warehouse therefore, I can only apologise for the delay this caused to the order.

This order cannot be cancelled or returned after the order is placed. The door is manufactured to suit the sizes you have chosen making it a bespoke item as you have been advised.

It is not the case that we do not care. Unfortunately, these delays is something completely out with our control and we are doing everything we can to chase deliveries and follow up. I will ensure that you are kept up to date with any new information as and when we have it.

Should there be anything further you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to contact me.

So sad we bought a Prefinished Fake Suffolk External Oak Door

So sad we bought a
Prefinished Suffolk External Oak Door
1981x838mm (£795.14), only 6 months, the door start to rot in the bottom, we found that it is not a solid oak wood door, it was an engineered composite door and the Prefinished just laminate for the MDF.
Highly not recommended!

Hi Emma, thanks for your quick responsed, as your mentioned, so you agreed that is misleading from your website! Anyway I will send you the photos.

Hello,

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

I am sorry to hear of the issues you are experiencing with the door order. I cannot see we have been notified of any issues prior to you leaving a review.

We clearly state on our website that the door purchased is a full decorated real American oak veneer over a solid engineered core.

If you email into us with your order details and images of the door to info@directdoors.com, we can investigate this further with the manufacturer.

Good quality door stops

Very pleased with the variety of door stops to choose from. Purchased several anodised wall mounted and one floor fixed. They all arrived promptly and well packaged - looking good now they’re all fitted. Thanks very much.

(Although I was offered vouchers to post a review, I had already posted a positive review elsewhere and their offer hadn’t influenced me)

Wish I had read these reviews before I purchased a door and frame for a £1000. After 20 years as a carpenter I can honestly say this I the worst I've ever seen. After being sent a replacement which was no better. This company is just a middle man to a sub standard manufacturer. They don't care about what they're supplying or have any idea about what they're selling. STAY WELL CLEAR! THIS COMPANY SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN BY TRADING STANDARDS!

Hello,

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

I believe my colleague Claira has been speaking with you about the concerns you have raised. We have all items sent direct from our manufacturers warehouse to minimize the handling of goods and I can only apologise that they were delivered damaged.

Unfortunately, as you proceeded to fit the frame, which was damaged, this deems the goods as accepted and therefore, we cannot offer any replacement on this occasion. However, it was not without sympathy and Claira did manage to offer compensation for you towards resolving the issue on site.

I am sorry that this was not the outcome you were hoping for but as above once the goods have been worked on, there is nothing further we can do.

Should there be anything further you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Terrible customer service/ low quality product

Do not waste your money with this online retailer, if you have any issues, which by looking at other reviews now theres a strong posibility you will!! You will get nothing back from them except excuses of why they cant replace or repair, and then they will blame you for why they will not fix/ compensate you once they have your "returns form".
Ours was because we did not treat the door before it was hanged.
The door was hanged for 24 hours, and ourselves and our builders knew in the morning the issue was with the low quality of the materials and a manufactouring fault of the door.(their was no glue behind the panel
If you belive in any standard of customer service stay clear of this bunch, as they only want your money for their overpriced, low quality doors.
Honestly Stay Clear!!
We paid over £850 for a Mohogany front door and frame from them, and when fitted the panel was warped within 24 hours.i should have went B&Q and paid a third of the price, and then if i had the same issues it would have been replaced staright away.
This has been a very disatisfying experience, so dont use them

Hello,

Firstly, I would like to take the time to thank you for leaving a review. As you will know, it has been myself who has been dealing with the concerns raised therefore, I think it best to bullet point below.

• The goods were delivered 16.09 and stored upright, for over a month before they were fitted. As stated on the label of the door, the doors must be stored flat.
• The items you ordered were an unfinished external door and frame kit which you did not treat prior to hanging nor, did the property have any overhead protection as we advise for external doors.

Like any timber product, they must be sealed and protected to avoid any moisture ingress and egress as I mentioned in my emails to you.

Unfortunately, due to the goods being hung untreated and stored incorrectly, the warranty has been voided and we will not be able to offer anything further.

Kind Regards,

Avoid online hardwood doors

Previously had great mdf doors from JeldWen a long used supplier in Texas. Since then spent over £800 on ridiculous excuse for an oak door which has taken ages to get replacement for cracked frame (drove 2 hrs to Leeds ourselves for that from LPD) and then warped threshold (took over 2 weeks) but the worst of it is the reality this is not only a pieced frame but a thin veneer door over layers of softer wood as revealed by the cores when installing lock sets. And yes, the door has warped straight away altho layers of finish per enclosed directives: non water base stain then varnish and heavier sealer for cut ends. We know what we are doing, having been in commercial construction 55 years US & UK. Bottom line UK: never buy a hardwood door online, go to a trusted local supplier, it's worth the extra cost. You don't want to burn £813 like we did.

Hello,

Firstly, I would like to thank you for taking the time to leave your review although I am disappointed to hear of the issues you have experienced.

I am sorry that when the goods were initially delivered, there were damages to the items. We have all goods delivered direct from the manufacturer to ensure you receive them swiftly and we trust for them to deliver them in a good condition as we would. However, I am sorry that on this occasion that was not the case.

I can see the frame was sorted within 24 hours as you drove to collect this yourself, however, I am sorry that the threshold took longer than expected.

Should there be anything further I can assist you with, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Refusal to replace a faulty door

Ordered a pocket door via our bathroom fitter, spending over £700 on the order, frame was delivered ok, the door was then delivered in a different shipment on the 12th October. The bathroom fitter, went to unpack and install the door on the 19th October and the door was faulty. Contacted DirectDoors immediately upon seeing the fault, who flat out refused to replace the door. They said their T&Cs said we had 48 hours to tell them about it. I contacted Citizen's Advice who said the refusal to replace the faulty door was a breach of the Consumer Rights Act 2015. I took this information back to DirectDoors, who continued to flatly refuse to replace the door. I explained to them it's against the law to refuse to replace the faulty door as per Citizen's Advice information and they still refused. I am now in the process of continuing my complaint with Citizen's Advice. DirectDoors has now substantially disrupted the progress of the work we're doing, basically we're at a point now where nothing can get done until a new door is sourced, and DirectDoors are refusing. So we'll see what Citizen's Advice will assist with from here. Shall update in due course, but I'd steer VERY clear of this company as it seems this is a reoccurring problem. I'd give them zero stars if I could.
Update: spoke to the MD (apparently) who was unhelpful, adversarial and wanted to reinforce his clear view that this was our problem for not reporting the faulty door within 48 hours. Apparently a week is "well outside the timescales". I would think a week is a reasonable time frame. Anyway, the company was firm they refuse to partially refund (we only wanted the door replaced) refusing to replace, absolutely no regard for the customer and utterly appalling to deal with in every sense of the word. Wish I'd read all the other reviews that had similar experiences when there's a fault and the company does not care one bit about it.
Update: not “well over a week” but exactly a week the door was on premise untouched and upon immediate inspection after unpacking the door the fault was reported. As anyone will note from the reply below, DirectDoors does not give a flying f… about you when there’s a problem. AVOID. Clearly the rot starts at the top.

Hi Samuel,

It was myself who spoke to you over the phone for approximately 10 x minutes and I am sorry you feel I was unhelpful but as stated we asked the person who ordered it John to send us images of the damages and is clear that the door has been dunted or bashed to cause the door to have a crack, we explained that this would have been noticed well before then and guided him to like any other company who states all good must be checked for any faults or damages.

Our website clearly states to check all goods and report any faults/damages straight away, unfortunately this has not been done.

John or you have had a week to check the door and explained this to yourself and am sorry you relay that as being unhelpful.

To clarify the images, show a crack that has been done by hitting or lifting the door and dunting on the floor causing the crack and we cannot be responsible for that.

Recurring theme - damaged doors - steer clear.

Only wish i had read recent reviews for this lot. I had door dropped off a week after the other parts, the delivery driver just left it in my garage and drove off without even knocking on my door, perhaps he already knew the door was damaged. Anyway i left it in my garage until weekend when my chippy fitted it, we took the packaging off to find dents and scratches over the door.
I contacted Direct Doors and after some consideration their excuse was they would not credit me or replace the damaged door as i should have reported damage within 24 hrs. Poor Poor Poor company to deal with.
I will also say very expensive these mexicana doors can be bought separately for about £130, which means there little bit of steel they supply cost nearly £300, a total rip off.
Steer clear

in reply to your email below i suggest you get your facts right the door as i stated above was delivered separately and was on the 21st of September, i had an email off your colleague Erin at 8.29 on the 21st as follows:-

Hi Neil,
I apologise for the delay in my response while I awaited the response from the manufacturer.
They have advised the door is out for delivery today.

Kind regards,

Erin

Hello,
Firstly, I would like to thank you for taking the time to leave your review.

We are no different from any other company in that we ask for any damages / issues to be reported within a reasonable time scale. As stated in our terms, the goods must be checked upon or within 24 hours of delivery and any issues reported to us immediately.

Your order was delivered on the 14th of September and the first we heard of any damage was Sunday the 25th of September, 11 days after the goods were received.

Despite this, my colleague Kiera did also contact the manufacturer to discuss the concerns raised however, due to the goods being reported out with the appropriate time scale, we cannot accept them back on this occasion.

Should there be anything further you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Hello,

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. As you will know it was myself who has been dealing with the concerns you have raised.

The damage was not reported to us within a reasonable time scale. You had the goods delivered on the 30th of June and the first we were notified of any issues was the 2nd of August.

In the month it took for the damage to be reported, the goods had also been worked on and fitted thus deeming them as accepted. As I have explained in the emails, all products must be checked within 48 hours of delivery and any issues reported to us immediately, in writing.

Due to the goods being worked on and reported out with our terms, we cannot accept them back.
