It was a shocking when I finally realised that I was being scammed by someone online. This was a cypto-investment scam where all of my saving was lost and the scammer disappeared after they took away my money.

I was searching online and found the CEL solicitors. I wrote a short report and they accepted my case in this year January.

H was the first solicitor to help me made a complaint to the bank and trying to get a refund back, I very much thanked her effort and time. However, it was a nightmare that the bank was calling me three times and kept asking me for evidence and made me so uncomfortable. I have told the bank to seek evidence to H, they told me that she was off for holiday and I called the CEL solicitors, one of her assistants said she was off for few days and it was almost the deadline as the bank required more evidence. Eventually, her assistant claimed that the evidence has submitted.

The first outcome from the bank was a refusal. The case handed to another solicitor -T. He was helping me to set up a case with Financial Ombudsman (FO). After we extended the complaint about the case to FO, it was still a bad outcome as it was a lack of evidence. When I was reading the decision from the FO, I realised one of the key evidence (the conversation between me and the scammer) was missing, the date of this conversation was only partly shown. So I went to the Whatsapp again and re-downloaded the conversation. I have checked again all of the key evidence and then sent over to T. The second time was a good one, the bank willing to paid 1/3 of the funding and the FO decided to ask them to paid 1/2 of the scammed money.
Overall, I very much thanked for all of the helps that CEL solicitors have provided. However, I am not happy about some of the things that could be the red flags:

1) As I have mentioned, they should've check the evidence and I was hoping to have a conversation about the case and check every evidence before the first submission to the bank or FO. Apparently, they were too busy. I almost lost my case!

2) Lack of empathy, lack of communication and feeling cold. Usually, they only reply with email messages. They were too busy. I don't feel they care about me or my case. When I asked why I cannot get a full refund, one of the solicitors told me that it is a "rare case" that I was lucky to get the refund.

3) I was waited for 7 weeks before my refund sent back to me. The CEL solicitor hold my money for a long period of time. They have told me that the bank hasn't sent the full amount yet but I have received letters from the bank already that they did. I was asked to sign an agreement that they have the right to hold my money. I was not happy about this at all.

4) In term of their fee. It was a huge amount. The bank has refunded me about £34k, I only received about £22K. they have charged me 35% of my refund which was not right. I still haven't received an invoice from the CEL solicitor.

At the end of the review, please may I suggest people who have been scammed. It will be better for you to made complaint to the bank and FO on yourself to avoid such service fee.

Callum was polite and understanding about my fraud case - something I am incredibly embarrassed about.

I uploaded close to 30 documents of fraud proof to this company in an attempt to get a refund from the bank.

Communication was extremely poor and only once did I manage to get through to my actual case handler who was familiar with the facts after navigating the AI assistant. Quite often this assistant got it completely wrong and I had to start the phone call again.

The bank then got in touch with me asking for proof of fraud… which would be the 30 documents I had already uploaded to CEL. None of these were passed on to the bank and I had to forward documents to them myself. At which point I begin to question why am I paying solicitors out of my possible refund when I am the one doing all of the footwork.

4 months later it was decided that there was not enough proof despite it very clearly being a scam and there was nothing more they could do to progress this case. I feel nothing has been accomplished here apart from wasting my time. The only silver lining was that it was no win no fee, in this case you get what you pay for.

Everything went well with the case you kept me well informed with everything pretty punctual and advised me on all the information regarding the case .
