Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many people found the online banking system to be outdated and difficult to use, especially on mobile devices, and noted the absence of a dedicated app. Customers frequently encountered problems with account access, often being locked out after incorrect login attempts or due to issues with receiving necessary security codes and passwords, which are often sent via post. The customer service was widely criticized for being unhelpful, difficult to reach, and for having long wait times, particularly when trying to resolve account access or security concerns. Some people were dissatisfied with the payment processes, reporting difficulties transferring money, with funds bouncing back or accounts being blocked. However, a few other people also felt that the login details worked easily, and they had no problems with deposits or withdrawals, finding the process smooth and quick.

Unable to access my Simple Saver after a week

I opened a Simple Saver Account a week ago - but I'm still unable to access the account online, as Cahoot insist on sending out the password and security number by post, and they haven't arrived after a week. In 2025, Cahoot are still using the slowest and least secure method of communication to issue essential security information.
Thankfully most other banks have embraced modern technology so I've opened and funded another account with another bank which I'll use instead.

Absolutely exhausting - they make your life hard

Absolutely exhausting experience trying to set up an account. I sent them my passport 3 times and they kept asking for it again. They have no email address or service at all.

Blessing in disguise, I will stay with Chase bank. I cannot imagine trusting these guys with my money.

Dreadful customer experience.

Recently opened a savings account with Cahoot but did not receive account login username and password. Instead, Cahoot had linked the account to a very early profile of mine that has a now unacceptable username because of non alpha numeric characters, or so I was informed. Telephone agents were unable to help and instead of initiating a resolution, wanted me to call back after 30 days. Dreadful customer experience.

Terrible customer service

Terrible customer service. I requested a letter from Cahoot confirming my bank balance 4 weeks ago. I still have not received it, despite numerous calls to the bank. I gave up in the end and closed my account.

If I could give a worse score I would

If I could give a worse score I would. I have a lot of bank accounts as I switch regularly and can honestly say trying to open a savings account with you is the worst experience I have EVER had. I try to upload the identity documents and the hub I have to upload them to doesn't accept my application reference - says its wrong despite copying and pasting from their email. And when I then phone the number on the hub webpage it asked you to phone to get through to actual human being I end up with a ridiculous computerised system that keeps fobbing you off. Then you wait for 3 minutes and speak to a Santander customer service agent who says cahoot are nothing to do with them and they can't help. What a utter joke! No wonder it's a good rate, no one can open an account!

Update. Having how spoken to Cahoot directly (number given by Santander) the problem is you cannot upload a second document until the first one has been checked. They are aware of the error. Well perhaps save your customers and customer service teams a lot of calls by putting a banner on the upload hub to this effect and also put your own phone number on their not Santander's.

Absolutely terrible.

Absolutely terrible.
Firat opened a savings account EIGHT weeks ago - mid-July 2025.
Online account opening process fine but letters with log in details took an age of men to arrive. Thinking I was never getting them, I requested new login letters. The first set eventually showed up. Inevitably these login details didn't work as they had been cancelled on requesting the second set. The second set of login details took another 2 weeks to show up. Couldn't log in.
I requested a third set of login details three weeks ago and I'm still waiting.
Even if these details show up and I'm actually able to log in to this account, how am I supposed to trust this joke of a bank with my money? I'll be closing the account having been unable to deposit a single penny since opening the account more than 7 weeks ago.
When I've called to request the new details I'm told they'll take 4-7 days to show up.
Some of the blame may be attributable to Royal Mail also (who knows) but between Cahoot and Royal Mail I honestly just despair.

Waste of time.

Just opened account recently. Tried to withdraw funds and it reported an error repeatedly.
Sent a message on ‘chat’, no reply. Still have same problem 24 hrs later. Hopeless.
Will close account and go somewhere else.

Excellent savings accounts

I've used Cahoot for a couple of years now for a savings account . Initial set up took a few days for postal Id. 2 factor log in requires a code to be sent to access online, I'm very happy with this as a security issue. No issues at all with deposits/withdrawals. Opening other savings accounts with them has taken a few minutes online. Interest rates are very good and I've noticed when they drop rates after base rate cuts it is with several months notice not a couple of weeks. No issues at all.

Am amazed by the bad reviews recently…

Am amazed by the bad reviews recently but assume this is because they are paying one of the best interest rates and are swamped with new applications?
We have had an account for 2years and have no complaints. No app but I just put Cahoot in my search engine and click log-in .Then face recognition on my iPhone and they send me a code by text and Access to my account is given.
Transfers are done same day to any checked bank account , not just designated account.
Happy to be with a bank owned.by blue.chip Santander!

wow!!

wow, i have dealt with many many banks and building societies but Cahoot is the worst by far, i'm not gonna blubber about it too long and tell every detail that is wrong with them, if you want to take the risk than go ahead and use their services but be warned youre not gonna get what you've signed up for, and good luck reaching the customer service and even eventually if you manage to reach them good luck getting it sorted. Good luck on your cahoot journey if you decide to take it:}

Insecure and obtuse

1) No app.
2) 2fa is done via SMS, which is not considered secure.
3) The 2fa code cannot be pasted into the code textbox.
Insecure while still being obtuse for a user.

Locked out straight away

Opened a savings account funded by a Santander (who own Cahoot) current account I have had for years. Logged in (from home PC) to send 5k back to the very same current account, entered the OTP code and it locked me out of online banking due to suspected fraudulent activity. I cannot think of a safer scenario, two accounts with the same name held with the same bank and the only account I have as a payee. Told the wait to speak to security would be around half an hour so have had to leave it for today and borrow the money from my business. As soon as I can get back in I will have to close the account as if my Santander account is deemed unsafe then it will happen every time I want to withdraw money. It is draining waiting and giving the same information over and over again. Something is terribly wrong with their algorithms.

Just opened an account recently and I should've checked reviews first! Wanted a good interest rate for savings, but will try elsewhere. Cahoot is old fashioned. Where is the claimed app? A mobile code for login, every time??? No link on my Santander app, but they'll link any other bank, which is very odd. Spent a few minutes on phone, waiting for customer services. Time to ditch and switch, as Martin Lewis says.

Mostly good experience so far

New customers have to wait for login details in the post so I had to phone to check my savings account balance after my initial deposits, once for my small test transfer then again for my main deposit. They answered quickly and were pleasant to speak to. Bit old fashioned having to wait for letters in the post for online access though. Otherwise, all good so far.

I opened a savings account for the interest rate

I opened a savings account for the interest rate, but what a terrible, terrible mistake. Firstly there is no app, so I had to use the clunky website for any transactions. My account was blocked on Saturday of the bank holiday weekend, after trying to move some money around, so I spent 49 minutes on the phone trying to get it sorted. I went through all the security checks (twice), was passed around to different people, then had to wait for a manager to make a decision. The decision was that I had to POST (yes, POST!!!!) copies of my photo ID and a bank statement and would have to wait 7-10 days before my account could be unblocked. It was like being taken back 20 years and furious doesn’t really describe my reaction - I can’t access my own money for what is more likely to be 2 whole weeks, considering I have to rely on posting documents on a bank holiday weekend. I completely understand that they’re trying to protect me from fraud, but seriously - there must be more efficient ways to go about this!!! What is the point of all the security questions if they have to resort to paper documents? Appalling, appalling service from the dark ages. I have already informed them that I will be closing my account as soon as they can get their act together e.g. blow the dust off the 27-page document I will need to complete by quill (in triplicate) and send it to me via horse and wagon. No doubt I will also have to send photos of me on my wedding day and a pint of blood. I can only pray that I will have access to my money before the end of the decade….

Opened an Easy Access Savers account…

Opened an Easy Access Savers account based on the attractive rates but it’s like being back in the 90s. Awful interface, you’ll need a coin to scratch panels (think of lotto cards) to access security information via 2 letters followed by a website that is not even mobile friendly and is breaking all sorts of accessibility guidelines. I cannot believe that in 2025 a bank of any standing can be so digitally inept. Will the interest rate be worth it? I very much doubt it though if closing the account is as much effort as opening it they may have a better business model than I am giving them credit for.

Log on details don't work!

Tried to log on to my joint account and my details worked ok but my husband's didn't. Now have to wait for new log on details in post. This is not the first time this has happened. I rang them to get interest rate info but the lady in Belfast wasn't helpful at all. She told me to just log on again and upgrade my savings account. So I tried that and guess what, I can't log on either. We don't look at this account often as it's a savings account but this is the only company I have had issues with logging on. So frustrating. Will move my money asap.

Great IT but Poor Service

I successfully opened an easy access saver account with no difficulty. I had a welcome email with my sort code and account number within 3 minutes. It started to go wrong from there.
The email suggested if I had held an account previously I should call them to get the login details. They had my user name on the email so I remembered many years ago (10) I had an account with them. The call handler said that she had checked my account and it was blocked. I wasn't clear if this was my old account or the new one I'd opened. She passed me to fraud department to sort out the blocked account. Fraud said the new account was blocked until it had cleared all their checks. Fair enough I though. But then told me I needed to go to the Santander site to ask for my old login details. At that point after 30 minutes of trying to give them my money I gave up. From the reviews here it was lucky I didn't actually get the account

DO NOT USE THIS BANK

They are scamming me out of my savings, they will not return my savings after the 12 months is up,they keep saying security has failed. It has been the same codes I set account up with, they just want the money to stop in their account and give you nothing in interest.
Do not invest with this bank and Santander who own it, Pick Turpin had a mask, these just will not return anything, the people that answer calls try always to reject you.
