Incompetent & Untrustworthy

Bristol Garden Advisor Ltd. Registration 13850506.
Directors: Simon Miles and Paul Miles.

I first contacted them in June 2023. Simon Miles came to my property to discuss the work I needed done & visited again with Callum prior to work commencing to discuss the work to be done.

The work was conducted between July 2023 & December 2023.

Without going into detail, this business was completely out of it's depth. I wanted the rear garden topsoil removed & replaced with high quality soil, prepared for a high quality lawn and a sandstone paved area to be constructed in the back & front of the house.

The work was left to be done by people that didn't have a clue what they were doing. They were doing such a bad job that I started calling Simon to complain about the quality of the work. At first he was willing to listen, but the work was so bad, matters descended into full blown dispute & I had to stop the work.

We got to a stage at which the replacement soil had been brought into the back garden & prepared for seeding a high quality lawn. This work was done appallingly by untrained people that didn't really care.

The paving area was being done so badly, that when they had laid the some paving, I could see that the sand to cement mix resulted in a paving base that was so weak, it was like walking on the beach, soft under foot.

Paul Miles & a chap named Callum took over, but still the walk was substandard. They miscalculated on the measurements when laying the sandstone & ignored the written agreement on the work that was to be done.

All of this shoddy workmanship forced me to into a steep learning curve & I ended up telling them how to do the job & I had to supervise every step very closely.

The work for the lawn was never completed, because we were so upset & annoyed with the attitude of Simon Miles, that we wanted nothing more to do with him. His attitude toward the project was nothing better than contempt.

I have not left a review earlier as I wanted to see how the work would stand up to time.

As my wife & I micro supervised the installation of the sandstone paving, it has stood the test of time & not deteriorated. However, it was not laid completely flat or at an angle to ensure drainage away from the house in all places. But, I have seen worse.

The four drain covers situated in the paving area were left sealed shut by the bonding compound used to bond the paving stones. This is against regulations. I had to call someone out to dig out all of the bonding compound to release the covers, at a cost to me.

We gave up on having a lawn as the work that Simon Miles & his incompetent team had done was so bad, it needed to be completely reworked. We weren't prepared to go through all of that again, with having several tonnes of soil removed, replaced & levelled for seeding.

I had to wait until 2024 for drier warmer weather to remove weed suppressant membrane from the soil. When I removed it, I found mould / mushrooms throughout the soil because the membrane had remained on the soil for so long. It was also sinking in many areas as they hadn't levelled it carefully. They also dumped huge chunks of old patio cement in the corner of my garden & covered it up with soil; which I found when preparing the area for composting.

Instead of a lawn, I have a grey green gravel garden with a fabric weed suppressant membrane underneath.

I'm utterly disgusted with this business. I would not be surprised if in the time from 2023 to now that they've ripped off other people too.

If they want to dispute this review via Trustpilot, I will provide Trustpilot with all of the written & photographic evidence needed to prove this review & more.
