Barker and Stonehouse Reviews 

Thanks to Michael H and Colin R for a timely and efficient delivery today. Was a tricky job to get my chair through the narrow doorway but they managed it!

We were looked after by David B who was really helpful with advice and moving pieces of furniture around to help us make an informed choice.

I have now made three separate attempts to purchase the same dining table from Barker & Stonehouse. Every one has ended in cancellation.

For the first delivery, I dismantled and moved my large oak table into the garage in preparation. When the delivery team arrived, they explained that the order should have been booked as an assisted lift. They could not bring the table into my home, so it was returned.

Months later, I gave Barker & Stonehouse another chance and ordered the same table. When the van doors opened, I could hardly believe its condition. The base had no protective packaging and was badly scuffed and scraped. The tabletop was loosely covered with ill-fitting cardboard, and the drivers had assumed I had bought it as seen from the shop floor. Once again, it went back.

Despite vowing never to purchase from Barker & Stonehouse again, I recently saw the same table as a shop-floor model in Leeds ready for delivery. Having explained the entire history to the saleman, I was reassured that it would be carefully packaged and that, this time, there would be no problems. I paid for the table for a third time.

When I was contacted to arrange delivery, however, the person calling knew nothing about the history or assurances I had been given. I then discovered that the table would first be transported from Leeds to a warehouse in Doncaster, unloaded, reloaded and transported back to my home introducing more opportunities for damage to an already vulnerable table.

After everything I had been through, I simply could not risk another failed delivery and so was forced to cancel again.

The individual staff members I dealt with were generally pleasant and helpful. The problem is a disconnected process that nobody appears to own. Customer history, important information and assurances established at one stage do not travel through the business to the next.

Each time, the solution has simply been to refund my money and move on, with no meaningful acknowledgement of the inconvenience, effort, stress and disappointment caused.

After three attempts, I still do not have the table I genuinely wanted. For a company positioning itself as a premium furniture retailer, that is extraordinary or perhaps, judging by my experience of Barker & Stonhouse simply ordinary.

Buyer beware.

Just received my sofas and dining chairs delivered by Ste and Lewis, rang ahead to advise of delivery time. I was a little late due to traffic but they waited for me to arrive. Took all packaging away and ensured everything was in order before leaving. Thanks guys.

The delivery team were absolutely fantastic. Leon, Jay G and Paul were polite, patient and professional. The sofa initially did not fit through the door and up the stairs but they took some of the sofa apart and reassembled in the desired space and I couldn’t be happier with the result!

Marty and Des were very helpful and tidy.

Liam and Wojciech delivered a replacement chair. Couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. Super customer service all round.
