I didn't want the cheapest insurer; Aviva is a well-known quality insurer. The quote for my car insurance was better than my existing company by a good margin with the same level of cover. I feel comf... See more

Aviva must be the worst company to try and call. Far too many options to choose from. Eventually received a call back only to be left a message. When you call the number back you get a recorded message saying they will call you back. They don’t callback. If you have an hour to waste call then. Never again, absolutely useless company. Keep well clear.
Standard reply from a useless company. Complaints department have still not contacted me

Absolutely shocking service
Absolutely shocking service. Trying to get a pension paid out. After completing all the paperwork and mailing back ( signed for so have proof of delivery) absolutely no response. Have tried phoning but their "advisers" are always too busy to answer the phone. Have tried sending emails and messages through MyAviva but nothing. Complete waste of space.

Awful customer service and overall experience I changed insurers because the customer service was so bad. Yasmina in particular was someone who dealt with me and was incredibly rude.

They just won’t let you to cancel the policy when you no longer have a car. There’s no option to cancel on the app and the number they want you to call dosent work.

BEWARE
BEWARE - I just got swindled by Aviva.
I've been an Aviva customer for 10 years, with multiple insurance products. I always ticked a "no" to auto-renew but doing it through their website automatically added this option.
Their renewal emails went to my Junk folder and there was no paper-based reminder. So a when a massive hike in my insurance premium came through, I decided to move on. However, I was then informed that, even though my policy was active for 24 hours (which was unknown to me in the first place!), there is now a £50 cancellation charge.
I explained that I wasn't even aware or the auto-renewal, that I've been a faithful customer for 10 years, that I hold multiple products with Aviva - but to no avail. I had to hand over £50 for one day of insurance.
A perfect example of how to lose a customer. I will now be moving all my other products to other providers.
Beware of the Aviva swindle.

Insurance "blues"
I have two car insurance policies with Aviva both switched this year from Saga. My wifes policy switched online with little issue bar sending the no claims proof via e-mail instead of uploading as document saved could not be found on their window although available in my computer .With my policy the "proof of no - claims " was firstly not verified as Saga did not include the finish date with them. They sent 2 documents , one including both requirments , the second with just the "no claims" . Confusing of Saga and of course I sent the wrong one with my policy but "got lucky" and sent the correct one with my wifes, hence no issue with hers.
So sent the correct document to Aviva. No "red flag" e -mail from them by the way. This time it was questioned because of a "no fault" accident that my wife had had logged because she is a named driver on my policy. I was asked to request Saga to remove this as this did not apply. Really not sure about that!!. Spoke to Saga who refused to change the document. Great, so I have have made a complaint to Saga as had said to Aviva I would try to get this done. As it stands Aviva have now approved my no - claims by e -mail and I am awaiting a call from Saga to protest at my situation.I remain uncomfortable that I have been asked by Aviva to change a document which my old insurer Saga refuse to do because they say it is correct. Will this come back to bite me in the future that`s the issue.?
When will insurance companies stop playing silly beggars with people eh!We all know they don`t want us to change as they make more money with less hastle for them. All on an insurance data base anyway, yes.

Very efficient service.
Aviva Platinum (via comparison sites): fine to buy, impossible to amend, shoddy on cancellation
I needed to renew car insurance for my Tesla after my previous provider hiked the premium. I went through the comparison sites and found Aviva Platinum matched my previous cover at a similar price, so I bought it.
Shortly after, my wife found a joint breakdown policy covering both our cars — far better cover than Aviva's basic breakdown add-on — and I realised I didn't need Aviva's Motor Legal cover either. I tried to amend my policy to remove these two add-ons. Saving: £2, on a £400+ policy.
The real issue: there is no way to speak to a human about an existing policy bought online. No phone number, no email, just a chatbot that refuses to escalate to a person for anything administrative. (I can only hope this isn't also true for claims — that would be a different level of problem entirely.)
With no way to make a simple amendment, I cancelled the policy outright and took my business elsewhere.
What followed made it worse:
My policy was due to start 8 September at 00:01. Aviva's cancellation confirmation states the policy "will end on 08/09/2026 at 23:59" — implying a full day of cover I never had and never paid for. Either sloppy templating or a genuine error; either way, not confidence-inspiring for something insurance-related.
The same email — sent from a no-reply address, so there's no way to query it — says refunds are issued "within 5 working days of any outstanding direct debits." I paid in full by credit card. No direct debit was ever set up. It reads like a copy-paste from a different policy type.
It feels like customers who arrive via comparison sites are treated as second-tier — no direct contact at all — while Aviva's direct-channel customers get an actual phone number. I was an Aviva customer for years on a previous car and never had this level of difficulty reaching someone.
If you're buying Aviva through a comparison site: the price is competitive, but be aware you have zero ability to speak to anyone if anything needs changing after purchase.
