Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 132 reviews, reviewers overwhelmingly had a great experience with this company. Customers consistently praise the staff for their helpfulness, attentiveness, and empathetic guidance. The service is highly valued, as many appreciate how the company offers options, sets up tours, and handles background work, simplifying the search for suitable care. Exceptional customer service, with timely responses and clear communication, also helped reviewers find suitable locations. However, some customers noted persistent issues with contact, experiencing an overwhelming number of calls, texts, and emails, even after requesting removal. This continuous, frustrating communication, especially during stressful times, led some to feel the service was not genuinely helpful or that the company acted more like salespeople.

I didn’t know where to start

I didn’t know where to start, what to look for, what my dad’s options were, or even what questions to ask. A Place for Mom walked me through the process during this difficult time and helped me what to look for and what to ask. The emails arrived and ironically were filled with things I was going through and were so helpful. They connected me with a home care person and Patriot Angels. A tour was even set up to visit a nursing home and after they helped me choose 4 homes to look at the homes contacted me. It took away so much stress so I could concentrate on my dad’s health. They gave me hope that I could navigate this next step with my dad’s health. I am recommending A Place for Mom to all of my friends. It is a free, valuable , caring organization that will help you when you most need it. I would be lost without their help. We did place my dad in one of the nursing homes that best fit his needs and ours. I am happy with our choice and I will forever be grateful to A Place for Mom for walking me through everything!

Keri was very helpful in finding my father an assisted living facility quickly and competently. She was a warm and soothing individual during a very stressful situation, and knowing that I could call her at any point during the process to ask her questions made everything run so much more smoothly than I expected it to. Thank you so much for all your help!

Jonathan was very helpful. Constantly checking to see how things were going. Made reservations for me.
Wouldn’t have been able to get all this done without the help.

A Place for Mom is the place to go to for help!

A Place for Mom is the place to go to find info on all the assisted living/rehab places in the area. The information they send out is very extensive and helps a lot to decide. The fact that they will also set up tours, etc. is a plus.
I would recommend them to anyone looking for assistance for a loved one.

They are so courteous and professional

They are so courteous and professional. In a time when many businesses treat you like an interruption in their personal life, A Place for Mom understands that this time in your life, choosing a place to place a loved one, is a very confusing and mentally challenging enough and they make the task very easy..

Desperate for respite care, offered a bad solution

We needed help with respite care, and frankly were desperate for a place for my father-in-law. Villa Toscana was the only one out of four memory care facilities recommended by A Place for Mom that sent a nurse to pre-assess him and had a respite spot available that same night.

I’m not sure if this was poor communication with the memory care places or just that VT was the only facility actually available, but out of a need for same-night placement we agreed to a 30 day respite care contract with Villa Toscana (their minimum stay duration, that should have been a warning indicator for us - other places offered a 14 day minimum).

Long story short, we could not tolerate having my father-in-law stay at Villa Toscana for more than one week. This did give us the time to visit the three other spots recommended by a Place for Mom, but that one awful week cost us > $10k and was not a good experience for the family at all.

My beef with a Place for Mom was that they even included Villa Toscana on their list of recommendations at all.

If I could plan this over again, I would have evaluated and visited memory care facilities independently, long before we had a desperate need for one, and would have not put our trust to in a broker that gets paid for placements, no matter how bad.

We are transferring my father-in-law to Ivy Park today, which not only is closer to our home, but also appears to have better staffing, better monitoring of residents who wander (so that they do not enter other residents rooms, use their bathrooms, take their things and attempt to get in bed with them), but also promises to have palatable nourishing food and daily engaging activities that aren’t routinely cancelled!

Seriously, as with any large purchase, do your own research online and in person, and avoid having a broker give you a terrible suggestion when you are desperate for a place the same day!

Amber Hewett was a great help for us

We contacted a place for Mom in late February as my sister was bouncing back and forth from Southdale hospital, TCU’s – Aurora, Sunrise of Edina and Presbyterian Homes in Bloomington. There were a few short trips to her home in between all these other.
Loretta, my sister was at Presbyterian homes in February and was told after a few weeks there that was all they could do for her. At that point it was a make-or-break time for us. We were at a loss as to what to do next. We called A Place for Mom for help. We got a return call from Amber Hewitt. It turned out to be a Godsend. Amber was asked to help with a difficult task. She was asked to help us find a good place for Loretta for a semi-short-term stay. She was not ready to commit to an assisted living location at that point. She also requested a place in either Bloomington, Richfield or Edina, if possible. That narrowed the search even more.
Amber started researching and initially came up with a few possibilities, most of which Loretta declined, due to lack of proximity to Richfield or Bloomington. Alecia, my daughter and Loretta’s niece, frequently assists Loretta. She goes to Loretta’s former home – picks up the mail and anything else Loretta needs, so it is important to Loretta that Alecia does not have to drive far. Amber worked diligently to help us find a location that would check all the boxes Loretta wanted.
Amber discovered Carefree Senior Living located in Burnsville. My daughter and I went out to Burnsville to check it out in person. We liked the facility and met Jeremy, one of the owners. He answered all our questions, and we felt good about signing on there.
The adjustment phase was a little challenging initially, as most changes for an 80+ year old Senior can be arduous.
After a couple of weeks or more, Amber called to see how Loretta was managing. I told her she was doing well. Loretta still has her moments, but I appreciated Amber’s continued follow up. In fact, we have asked Amber to be our contact when in a few months my husband and need to begin looking for independent senior living,

A Place for Mom was a huge help

The gentleman that I spoke with understood the challenges we were facing regarding pricing and the level of care needed. He found a place that is a perfect fit for our loved one. So glad that I wound up speaking with him.

Initial recommendation turned out to be a perfect match

We were contacted right away by our advisor who accurately understood our needs and helped us sort through a number of possibilities. Her initial recommendation for a senior living community turned out to be a perfect match for our needs.
Interactions were warm and respectful, and she was readily available for all of our questions.

Never done business with this company, and now I have an invoice and threats to damage my credit. I received an email to sign up and activate the referral service, but I haven't signed it or sent the information back. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS FRAUD SCAMMING COMPANY. I will be starting a class action suit.

Waste of time and not helpful in finding an appropriate place for my father.

I explained my father's health issues to the initial contact person detailing how he requires a high level of nursing care. I expected to get a list of facilities that matched my father's needs. Instead I received useless generic recommendations and was innudated with calls from various facilities. When I contacted the person who was supposed to help me find a specific place explaining the mismatch of facility to my father's needs he took more than two weeks to send me yet another totally inappropriate facility. In addition my contact information was send to the facility with the result that I received a call before I received the email. Very unprofessional. Overall a very frustrating experience during a very difficult time.

Fantastic service that I have used two different times now and both times they have been immensely helpful in a very stressful time of my life. I use them to find placement for my mom in Indiana right before Covid and also use them again in Arizona… The service was exceptional and helped the process so much.

A Place for Mom is a predatory nightmare

A Place for Mom is a predatory referral farm, and is happy to bombard already overwhelmed families with dozens of unvetted sales calls to make their money through referral fees. I received dozens of robocalls from unbelievably aggressive sales reps during a time when my family and I were already drowning. It took me days to get them to stop. The company settled a a class-action lawsuit in 2019 for violations of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, alleging that the service did not adequately inform users of or receive written consent for the use of robocalling as part of its services. According to a Washington Post report, this aggressive approach includes lazy internal controls around referrals, with 37% of their "best of the best" agencies showing documented histories of neglect, and serious violations with multiple regulatory agencies. They don't care about you. They prey on vulnerable people on behalf of their real clients, their partner predators, corporate memory care facilities and home health providers. They are currently under Senate investigation for their predatory, family-breaking business practices. If you have had a similar experience, feel free to send a letter to the Senate Special Committee on Aging to help hold these monsters accountable.

They will own you with an undisclosed contact

they will take your name and put you in a contract without you knowing and then you cant work with a local reputable placement agent that has actually been in all of the communities. Horrible company!! They own your name for 3 years for never showing you a community in person. Don't ever click or fill out paperwork or give them your name or they own it!!
