Ancestry provides a very good set of tools to get you going. Be warned, though, that the hints are just that, they do not always belong to your tree . You need to dig deep , sometimes, to get an accu... See more

This website is interesting but unfortunately a lot of the information comes from other members who don't always verify where their information comes from. Family history is not just sitting in front of a screen at home, there's more to it than that.

I joined Ancestry a few years ago after having DNA tests conducted for myself and my wife, which has thrown up lots of connections for me to delve into. It has also helped me to find my father-in-law's birth mother because he was adopted - you never think to ask your parents about these things when they're alive! More or less every day I have a search into our family trees to find out a little bit more - all fascinating stuff!
Ancestry is the best site for discovering your family history. It has a massive database of records & a vast number of users both of which are crucial in building a thorough family tree. Their DNA ethnicity analysis has proved to be very accurate for my 3 siblings, my son & myself. I have used other websites but Ancestry is my preferred option.
Ancestry is so easy to navigate. I find the pro tools really helpful to see where mistakes have been made. I really love building my tree and the hints are so helpful. I have a long way to go in learning where to research certain things but Ancestry always points me in the right direction

The good stories are easy to find but the really interesting ones, the skeletons in the cupboard, that our parents and grandparents tried to hide from us are difficult to discover.
Ancestry made such discoveries possible.
The truth, the reality emerged.
For example, yes, my paternal grandfather did spend his childhood in a Workhouse and, much later, some months in prison for theft. Life has many facets: Ancestry can highlight the spectrum of life.
Mostly a great experience. I find the hints are a great help and like to use Pro Tools to see where most of my hints are. Some of the hints are completely unrelated and can also be for a different person in the same tree.

Unfortunately the AI keeps bringing back wrong ancestors that look incredibly correct. I have now started to see so many trees that are wrong where people are simply trusting AI to give them the correct information rather than investigating it;

Since being on ancestry, I've found out so much on my parents family. Found family and been in contact with them. Done my Dna, which really helps finding more family love looking at the history of everyone, homes they lived in, places they were buried. Looking at where they were born. It's a great journey.
my experience with Ancestry talking to somebody and get the answers that I had been struggling with for many weeks has been excellent. I hope now I’ll be able to move on with my family tree
I sent my saliva sample on the 15th June J3F-3G2Z-4D2S and I have yet to receive a result

Always very pleased with your service. Generally, I can cope with the 'hints' but often feel overwhelmed with the number of them! Made some good discoveries though. Got a DNA test for my wife which proved who her maternal grandfather really was. She was very pleased with that!
Ancestry has allowed me to find out in detail the past lives of my family. The information I have gathered has given me an insight of where my ancestors lived, their jobs, their relationships and in some cases how they excelled and contributed to society.
Excellent service at all times.
Been a member for many years.
ALWAYS UPDATING AND IMPROVING THE RECORDS.
Prepared to discus renewal subscription costs.
I've been with ancestry for 6 years now and while the journey has been difficult at times I feel I have a good framework on my paternal and maternal sides. With no parents, aunts or uncles to draw on the journey has been eye opening with the help of census information etc. The hints system has helped solve some discrepancies along with the release of new records. The ability to share and contact other family tree owners is also very useful, as one kind person commented on a wrong date for a relative on my maternal side and with the new date I was able to remove that brick wall. That kind person also happens to be a half cousin as confirmed from my recent dna results. I found out I had a first cousin on my paternal side during a recent cross referencing of the family tree and my dna results put him at the very top of my living ancestors - we are due to meet up soon. Famous ancestors being flagged up by ancestry have been a revelation and, apart from being quite exciting, put a whole different aspect in to how the families have developed over time. I have been surprised at the number of cousins that are out there and their global spread and this is more impetus to carry on and engage my children and their children with the information.
Available databases are excellent but the AI generated hints are not great - I've been getting suggestions of census matches for after people were dead and it seems to think Patrick and Peter are the same name. Where there are twins in my family tree the hints appear on the wrong one even though the christian names are not similar.

I have been on Ancestry for over 20 years. But I am considering moving to another F.H. site. IMO the system developers appear to be too obsessed with making changes, just for change sake. These changes do not appear to have made the site any more stable and have caused functionality to be lost. Its real shame as it used to be brilliant.

Fed up of Ancestry sending me ‘Hints’ regarding my daughter who sadly died in 2021.
I do not need to be reminded of her birth, marriage or death and I have messaged Ancestry more than once asking them not to send these ‘Hints’ which are upsetting and in my opinion heartless.
There must be some way these hints can be disregarded when I have particularly requested this.
It spoils my enjoyment of family history, many of my ancestors lost children but I’m sure others will agree that I certainly do NOT need a reminder.
