Hands down the worst customer service…

Hands down the worst customer service experience I've had in years, and I've done quite a few car rentals in the past. The desk attendant was extremely rude when informing me that a credit card was required instead of a debit card, otherwise I would be downgraded to a smaller car or forced to cancel entirely. This requirement is hidden in very small fonts at the bottom of the reservation email.

I asked her to keep my reservation open for a few minutes while I checked whether I could obtain a credit card. When I returned to the kiosk, I was shocked to find that she had already canceled my reservation without telling me or getting my consent. This was done unilaterally on her part and caused major disruptions to my travel plans.

Completely unprofessional behaviour and unacceptable customer service. I strongly advise others to avoid this service at this location if they don't want last-minute surprises.

Negative Review of Alamo

Negative Review of Alamo – A Widespread Disaster, with a Special Mention for the Chamartin Station Agency in Madrid

Oh, Alamo, what a shining beacon of professionalism! If you’re looking for a masterclass in how to turn a simple car rental into a nightmare, Alamo, as a company, is your go-to champion. The agency at Madrid’s Chamartin train station is merely a glaring symptom of the incompetence that seems to be woven into the very fabric of this brand. Here’s the tale of an ordeal that perfectly showcases why Alamo deserves to be avoided at all costs.
On August 5, I booked a large SUV, something like a Volvo XC90, with one clear requirement: a spacious trunk for significant luggage capacity, as luggage was my top priority. The brand or model? I couldn’t care less, and I made that abundantly clear. What mattered was the reserved category. The booking was confirmed for August 8 to 21, and everything seemed in order. Alamo even encouraged me to use their “accelerated” online check-in process to save time. So, I spent ages entering my details and those of my wife (two drivers): driver’s licenses, IDs, address, phone, email – the works, as requested. A confirmation email followed, and I naively thought everything was under control.
Fast forward to the day of pickup at the Chamartin agency. First slap in the face: they asked for ALL the information I’d already provided. What’s the point of this “accelerated” process if I have to start from scratch on-site? A colossal waste of time, but that was just the appetizer. The main course came when they offered me… an Audi Q3. Yes, a Q3, two segments below the category I reserved! I politely pointed out that while models aren’t guaranteed, the category certainly is. But then, the cherry on top: the agency manager tried to convince me that a Q3 is equivalent in size to a BMW X3. Seriously? Not only is that blatantly false – the Q3 is a segment below the Q5, which is comparable to the X3 – but even the X3 is a segment below the category I reserved! I had to explain to the manager, who’s supposed to know his job, the basics of automotive segments. Either he was staggeringly incompetent for someone whose profession revolves around these distinctions, or he was deliberately dishonest. And frankly, he didn’t seem like a rookie.
When I pressed further, they admitted they had no vehicle matching my reservation. Nothing. Zilch. The manager and a colleague put on a theatrical show of making calls, suggesting options that were utterly irrelevant to my needs. The result? “No solution.” I suggested they reach out to competitors, a common practice in the industry – I’ve seen Sixt and Avis handle a similar situation flawlessly in Paris years ago. Alamo’s response? Since I hadn’t prepaid my reservation (thankfully, in hindsight), they acted as if “I didn’t exist.” That’s apparently what their head office told them. The final insult? They suggested I “go look elsewhere.” Thanks, Alamo, for that stroke of genius.
Thankfully, just a few steps away, the Sixt agency at Chamartin (a huge thank you to Paula) sorted everything out in minutes with exemplary professionalism. A resounding slap in the face for Alamo, whose incompetence seems dictated by company-wide directives as absurd as they are universal.
Let’s be clear: while the Chamartin agency excelled in its amateurishness, it’s merely a reflection of Alamo’s broader ethos. A reservation that’s worth nothing, a useless online check-in, staff teetering between incompetence and bad faith, and customer service that’s practically nonexistent – that’s the Alamo signature. This isn’t just one rogue agency; it’s a system designed to leave customers stranded. If you want to kick off your vacation with a memorable disaster, Alamo’s your best bet. Otherwise, steer clear and choose rental companies that understand what “service” means. Alamo is the epitome of unprofessionalism, and their entire network seems to revel in it. Avoid at all costs.

No cars at Alamo/Enterprise!

I booked a car with Alamo/Enterprise at Gijón Station in February for three days in August. When I came to pick up the car, I was informed they had no cars, and that there might be one available eight hours later. The guy just kept repeating I'm sorry we have no cars. I got no email, no advance notice of the situation to allow be to find a solution.

Even 1 Star is too much to rate this Company

Even 1 Star is too much to rate this experience. NEVER AGAIN. Booked 9 seater for 10 days. Flight was delayed (no fault of ours) so turned up at collection desk one hour and 15 minutes after the stated time. Girl in attendance simply said that after 1 hour bookings are dropped and your car is no longer available!! Added that system doesnt allow her to reactivate the booking even if the car is there!. A load of crap. 'You can come back later and check if one is available'. Yeah, right, like I (and the rest of the family) have nothing better to do! Dont touch them with a barge pole. Hopeless and totally insensitive to the problem they had just caused us.
