AirBaltic is officially becoming worse…

AirBaltic is officially becoming worse than Ryanair. For the first time ever my handcarry was weight checked and was slightly over the limit, fined 30 eu at the gate. They used to be a decent airline
AirBaltic prices are not "budget," but their service certainly is. Normally flying with Klm / Sas, have Silver membership with.
Very disappointed.

Paid for extras, flight cancelled, no refund

Our flight with airBaltic was cancelled. We had paid extra for additional services (seat selection to sit together), but after the cancellation the flight was rebooked and all paid add-ons were lost.

Despite the flight not operating as booked, the airline refused to refund the paid seat selection, arguing technicalities about reservations instead of acknowledging that the service was never actually used.

On top of that, compensation was denied, so in the end we paid extra for services we never received and got nothing back.

Very disappointing handling of passenger rights. The cancellation itself can happen, but the lack of fair reimbursement and responsibility afterwards is unacceptable.

Slimy hidden fees

I’m ok with weight limits, but having a bag policy built on giving a free carry on bag just to weigh it and charge the whole plane 30€? How wildly slimy. Just move to only a personal item like every other airline, having your business model be based on hidden fees is absolutely disgusting. The responses here by Air Baltic are also incredibly patronizing ”it is due to safety reasons” yeah the bag becomes safe to bring abroad once you pay 30€ for 1kg sure great. Will choose Ryanair or Wizair over this any day. I’d rather pay double for direct flights than to support this just for the principle.

Extremely rigid and no customer…

Extremely rigid and no customer oriented!!
I had a very frustrating experience with airBaltic’s customer service. I made a booking date mistake and noticed it almost immediately (within minutes). I tried to reach customer service by phone right away, but the phone numbers listed on the website did not work — no one answered despite multiple attempts.

I then contacted the Amsterdam office. A representative asked me to draft an email so it could be forwarded internally, but this did not result in a resolution. I also contacted the main office. On Friday, I finally received a response offering a reduced “goodwill” change fee with a strict deadline.

Unfortunately, I was unwell during that period and did not see or respond to the email in time. As soon as I saw it on Sunday, I replied immediately. Despite the fact that there was no fare difference, the change was requested more than 30 days before departure, and the mistake was reported immediately, the goodwill offer was withdrawn.

I was then told I must almost the same price as the original ticket — purely because I missed the response window while sick. No flexibility or human judgment was applied.

While I understand rules exist, the lack of phone accessibility and the refusal to consider illness or context. How can you make such a disproportionate decision when I tried all I could to solve the problem?

Weighing hand luggage AND personal…

Weighing hand luggage AND personal item, to be 8kg is an absolute new low for airbaltic. I’m a frequent flyer and NO OTHER reputable airline weighs backpacks, charges you 30 eur, and then, somehow, the hand luggage becomes “safe” to take on board because you paid for it. It’s a predatory practice, will avoid in the future.

If I could give a 0 I would

If I could give a 0 I would. I have flown with airBaltic twice, and both experiences were bad.

The first time, I was given a standby ticket because I had to check in at the airport, and not online, because I was traveling with my cat.ä. This is especially frustrating because it is physically impossible to check in online when travelling with a cat — airline rules require you to check in at the airport. I almost didn’t make the flight since it was overbooked and several people behind me did not make it on the flight since they also got standby tickets.

The second time, they weighed my carry-on luggage at the gate. It weighed 9.9 kg instead of the allowed 8 kg, and I was charged €30 for it. Less than 2 kg over the limit, yet there was zero flexibility or common sense or care shown by the staff. Extremely rude staff.

Both situations felt unfair, unfriendly, and clearly designed to extract extra money from passengers rather than provide a reasonable service. After two flights and two bad experiences, I will definitely avoid airBaltic at all costs in the future and choose another airline instead.

Started to weigh the luggage

Going down to the level of the budget airlines, but still keeping premium prices... After 10 years of flying with them multiple times a year, I got my luggage weighed for the first time ever. It appears they started doing this at Riga airport. Of course, got charged 30 euros for being over the 8kg limit. There is no way a suitcase and a personal item will weigh less than 8 kg for the average traveller. Pure greed from AirBaltic.

Bagage got delayed for 10 days

Bagage got delayed for 10 days. What do you want to give me as compensation? 10 euros a day. this doesnt cover anything + doesnt even cover the costs that i needed to pay for the bagage in the first place.

Absolutely bad customer support. If you call them they cant tell you anything since its not their department. If you mail them you get copy paste emails that have 10 different fonts (they dont even try to hide it).

Really try to go with any other airline if possible. They say they are a budget airline but they are more expensive than any other airline always.

Really could not recommend this company less.

Petty baggage policy

Petty baggage policy, they weight backpacks and suitcases together and if you are above 8kg on both, 30eur per person is taxed. Only airline to ever do so. Will avoid it as much as possible in future flights.

AirBaltic runs one of the pettiest…

AirBaltic runs one of the pettiest baggage policies in Europe.

A combined 8kg cabin limit is already ridiculous, but trying to charge €60 for two passengers because one bag was slightly over, while our checked luggage was under the allowance, is straight-up fee farming.

We were traveling together. Their first move was to charge €30 per person. Only after redistributing weight between us did they “allow” us to pay €30 instead of €60 — as if they were doing us a favor.

No flexibility. No common sense.
Cold, robotic staff clearly trained to extract fees, not help passengers.

This has nothing to do with safety or operations and everything to do with nickel-and-diming at the gate.

Disgusting practice. Avoid this airline.

First bad experience of air Baltic this…

First bad experience of air Baltic this morning. Weighing bags at gate… not even Ryanair does this. Barely over the limit and charged €75 for what they said was heavy luggage! Outrageous… for 13kgs. Apparently introduced during summer. Looks like the new CEO is playing stupid games with passengers. Lots of passengers charged this morning, you think they will spend any money during the flight or leave the flight in a good mood?!! Avoid the airline, clearly bad decision with the new CEO. We’ll fly with Ryanair for future. I am truly kicking myself for giving airbaltic a chance with this last booking.

Always damn late

I can’t get the idea to sell the ticket to connecting flight with 30-min gap and flight with systematic delays putting the passenger on permanent stress as there is no garantie the connecting flight will wait until you reach the gate 😩

Trustworthy airline…

For years now we once or twice a year used this airline (Tallinn-Amsterdam vv).
Every time had comfortable flights. Cabin personnel is friendly and hard working. Nice (Douwe Egberts) capuchino available during flight. Twice had a delay not accountable to the airline but due to weather conditions on departure or arrival airport. When delayed the new schedule was performed strictly.
Booking is easy. We once made an error, called the airline and were helped friendly and correct. 👍
