I just spent over 1 hour on the phone with EJ at WPEngine support in Houston today trying to get the two step verification turned off on my account after losing access to my Google Authenticator App.
It was harder to gain access to my WPEngine account than it was to gain access to my bank account in a similar situation a few years ago.
EJ wanted everything.
He did a full "virtual cavity search".
He went "full Matlock" on me.
It felt like I was trying to reenter the states with no luggage while wearing dark sunglasses and sweating profusely after an overnight trip to a country on the State Departments "no go list".
Honestly, this was the most intense grilling I've ever experienced. EVER. And it reminded me of why I've stuck with WPEngine for over a decade.
EJ had my back today. NO WAY NO HOW was a hacker going to get past his post.
THANK YOU WPEngine for your robust security protocols. And thank you for hiring professionals like EJ, (based in the USA), who are so very good at what they do. Bravo Zulu !!

WP Engine have always been able to solve my tricky website issues. I trust them implicitly and I know I can always speak to a real person if I need help with a complex issue.

Really disappointing, we worked with WP Engine for 1 year, bringing the contract to an end early to move to another provider.
Their account management & customer support were beyond poor and I would not recommend anyone use this platform.

I've hosted many clients with WP Engine back when they were ok. Lately it seems they are finding new ways to make money of their current clients, as if we weren't paying enough already!
My main bug is that all sites hosted with them get automatic WordPress updates. Automatic! They tell you after it's done, so you must be near a computer when you receive their automated email, so you can test yourself.
A major client with an important website experience an outage, due to an automated WP update! They say in their emails they test the site, but they cannot test everything, and in this case the actual site was down, so what testing was done?
With custom templates, you need to know exactly what to test, and when ever I do a WP update there's a vigorous test process to avoid this happening. Plus it all happens in dev and staging, NOT in production!!
So I decided to see if I could switch off these auto mated updates, and yah turns out it's possible, but boo, not for free!
Get this, WP Engine added the automated updates feature on their customers, with no say if we want that or not, then they charge you a monthly fee to disable them, via a plugin they own!
They force a feature on you then they make you pay to remove it!
Disgusting!!
@WPEngine - care more about your customers and their websites and you won't have so many bad reviews!

I've read your response and that doesn't say much at all. I've had sites on Deferred yet the auto-update still happens. Perhaps it was after 30 days, but then that's an extra thing to manage within the WP Engine console and I mange site via WP!
I have a client that hasn't been able to push changes to production because we're still testing in the development stage and it's been many months. All the while your auto-update keeps occurring and we have to go backwards and update dev and re-test everything.
Why don't you have a permanent deferred option? Please answer that.
Testing ... meh. Do you go into your customers sites and test every page with a unique template? Do you go through the shopping carts and make sure they're all working? I believe you just do a test the site is running via an auto-mated system. You don't manually check how the site looks and all the functionality still works. Updating WP usually means all plugins need updating ... but with auto-updates we don't get that chance.
So do you go into every site and check the individual plugins' functionality still works?
Simple fix is add an option to turn auto-updates off, or make your 'Smart Plugin Manager' plugin free for your customers.
These things will take no time to change. The only reason you wouldn't do either of these I feel is that you'll loose out on making a quick buck on the side.
Prove to us you actually care for real!

WP Engine is always there for me. I'm not a techie and they have made my experience here wonderful. Tech support always goes above and beyond. I love them! Can't say enough!
I also love their Frost Theme. Not being a techie, I thought it would be terribly hard to put together but my new website is looking fab! Block full site editing is here to stay! Love it!

WP Engine support has been an excellent resource for me. They're always there to help and they do an excellent job. If you are a website owner and not the developer who designed it, the support you get from WP Engine is invaluable. I get solicitations all of the time to change my host, and I never give them the time of day. I'm happy with WP Engine and have no plans to change.

Nick calmly walked me through every possible problem and fix that could be affecting our website. He spent valuable time ensuring that the problem was fixed before we ended the call. He did an assessment before we got started, and then walked me through a sequence of steps that helped narrow the issue. He provided backup and restore functions that were crucial to the successful outcome of this call. The call ended with 100% satisfaction on my part, even though we now need to hear from the tech team about a remaining issue.

The Ai support has been really helpful. During our migration process, even though we're not web development saavy, we were able to ask the Ai support questions during the migration process and get answers without having to take time, wait, trying to get ahold of a person to answer the simple questions.

WPEngine is top notch. They combine best-of-breed technical support with finely tuned and maintained WordPress hosting. Sites perform extremely well when hosted with them as compared with some other mainstream hosts. And their support team is personable and particularly helpful, and have often gone above and beyond to help me sort a problem out.

I've been a loyal WP Engine customer since their early days, and I've never once been disappointed. The level of support and the level of care/detail they all seem to possess is next level! Hats off to always being customer-centric and calm... that's always been my saving grace. Thank you, Team WP Engine, for always being in my corner - and keeping my client sites online!
