I have been emailing them for my policy upgrade and calling them for several days now. I didn't hear anything from them. Its so frustrating there is noone to help us in this regard.

The real distinguishing factor will be - if I ever need it - how they handle a claim. I'd hope it would be as friendly and fast as the purchase process, but you don't know until you have to deal with it.

Bait and switch tactics
The coverage amounts on their web site were 5 times higher than the coverage amounts my plan documents stated after I made the purchase. Customer service was slow but ultimately stated that it was their mistake, but wouldn't fix it. The actual coverage amounts are not adequate for the need (medical evacuation and care). Based upon the World Nomad's response to this review, I'm supposed to convince the evacuation service to exceed my stated policy limits based upon an email that references a web site page from 6 months ago! Good luck with that while you are lying on a stretcher in Tanzania. Scam alert.

World Nomad did not cover obvious cost
I have been insuring my travel with World Nomads for several years, with no occasion to make a claim. Recently, I booked a trip to Chile, then bought one of the highest plans with them, the explorer plan. At a glance it seemed to cover everything important, including cancellation, delays, and exchanges. A few weeks after buying the insurance, I was diagnosed with cancer, and they scheduled the surgery. Given the date of the surgery, I had to change several flights, which I did thinking surely the insurance would cover it. But my claim was not covered. It's all in the fine print of course-you can't change the flight except while on the trip; etc. etc. But that's not the point. You should be able to buy a trusted insurance--especially at the highest level--without having to go through it with a fine toothed comb. To me, it was pretty basic. I booked a trip. I bought insurance. I got diagnosed with something, and had to make a change. That is what insurance is for. I will never buy World Nomad again, nor ever recommend it.

Some tech issues…
I liked how clearly coverage was stated, and what was covered/not covered. Also, very affordable. However, I have had difficulty getting anyone to respond with issues setting up my account. It has only been a few days but it is frustrating. I attempted to create an account with the policy number and kept getting an error. Then I signed up for an account manually and the policy is not associated there. I’ve tried a few contacts that are listed on the site and the help center and haven’t had luck.
