I'm so happy to have found Workaway, it helps me to get in touch with people from all over the world. It has clear app surface, for me the UEX is perfect. And thanks for helping me at the first steps to make my profile. I feel your attention to the clients.

We have had several great experiences with the Workaway organisation - they put in touch workawayers and hosts and it is a great way of sharing cultures, skills and experiences.

Be very careful as a host, if anything goes wrong, as it did with a workawayer we got with a background of childhood trauma and psychiatric treatment, the platform will take sides against you without asking you for your version or verifying the facts behind an incident. After almost two years of only good experiences, I moved away from the platform and have no intention to ever go back

This happened on January 2025.
I was very unlucky in Chile and I picked the worst host, his name is Amador and he made my experience terrible, even saying xenophobic things about my nationality. Avoid that guy! Summing up what happened to me, Amador was neither a good organizer nor a good communicator. After finding an agreement, I reached him and I just had a feeling he was improvising, with no clear plan. He watched me working for an entire week, just to be rude and call me out later.
His expression and his pitch were quite aggressive, intimidating and humiliating me. His behavior seemed abnormal and I decided to record his voice, just in case. A few lovely things he told me: “you are too slow, other employees/volunteers work better than you”, “we don't need volunteers at the moment, they bring expenses and we're feeding you every day”, “I have apprehension when I must deal with people from your country”. It's ok if a host comes to a volunteer to correct the work, but this was not the case, as he went beyond the acceptable randomly saying those amazing things. Probably he did not like me from the very beginning. No need to mention that I felt so embarrassed. I was not there because I wanted, but because he, as the host, agreed with that. So why would somebody accept a volunteer to say those things during the stay?
The next day, I was out. I went straight to the next host that accepted me: by bus, it took me 2 days and a half to get there. I informed Workaway immediately about this disgusting Amador in Chile and Workaway's answer was hilarious, they found an excuse to justify the tension and decided to deal with it using omission. Workaway claimed it all happened due to a “misunderstanding” between us… yes… but does that justify those insane things he said? I couldn't take Workaway’s answer easily, because I don’t think a person like Amador should be hosting in a platform that pledges international interaction. If you are xenophobic, why would you be a host in an international platform? If you don’t need volunteers, why accept their request? Does that make any sense?
I could not write that host a review, because he never replied to my first message on Workaway and, without an answer there, you can't write it. I have shared my phone number in the message and the host called me. So all the communication happened via Whatsapp. I tried to talk to Workaway again, having a long email exchange, because I wanted to expose the host, I wanted the platform to let me review him, but they protected that guy. They claimed that “the host was flagged". But judging by the answers I got from them, I only felt omission. Workaway asked me questions, screenshots and details, which I shared and they did nothing. They said both the host’s and my profile would be suspended in order to have a “further investigation”, which didn't happen. I shared the file in which it's possible to hear Amador saying what I am reporting. They didn't say a single word about the file. For them, it was just not interesting to let such a review happen.
Workaway is dishonest. They have a questionable "feedback policy": a negative review (especially if it's a very bad one), IS NOT available to be read. How genuine are Workaway’s reviews? Now, the most ridiculous thing: after I wrote a few positive reviews to a few hosts, Workaway contacted me, asking for a review on Trustpilot and I am glad I didn't do it, because I had this problem in Chile. So, if I can’t honestly review a horrible host, I decided to review the platform. I hope you like it, Workaway.
Conclusion: if everything is flowers and joy, Workaway will be there for you, even asking for a review on Trustpilot. But if things get ugly for any reason and you ever need help, Workaway won't care. Good luck. I regret 100% joining Workaway, I decided to try it to see if it is worth. Never again. You are amateurs, not ready to deal with hard circumstances and tension. Sure, now you'll leave one of those typical corporate answers to this review.
Edit: Thank you for the standard corporate reply. Let's be clear. Many months after I contacted Workaway for help, I got frustrated due to their indifference and I sent a message to the host calling him a cabr*n to see how he would react. That insult is nothing compared to the humiliation he made me go through. After that, Workaway used it as leverage to keep the omission and justify the host's behavior, protecting him. Considering that they say they checked the recorded file and the host is still active, it just shows how there is indeed tolerance to absurdity inside Workaway. A host like that should be banned immediately, but this is how I'd handle such a situation. Xenophobia should not be accepted in an international platform. You are omissive and dishonest. Workaway, away from the truth. Have a terrible day. Oops, a good one.

The Workaway platform really works to help us find enthousiasths to join and help in our project for a couple of weeks! And gives us the opportunity to make beautiful and meaninful connections :-)
The only thing we do not understand is why we can't ask help with natural building / restoring old ruïns where, in fact, a lot of poeple out there are looking for natural building experience and we would offer a lot of knowledge and info in this field!

Honestly, the problem is the website itself. It doesn't allow for changing pictures or editing the profile. I am completely stuck with my process. Just a weird choice for workaway to neglect website maintainance.

It is a platform as a solo traveller to travel more easily, get to know locals , cultures and see around different places. Although some countries, referring to European countries I visited so far are more foreigners, but sometimes it makes the experience more interesting.

The workaway concept itself is fantastic but your host user interface is not very user friendly .As a host to sign in it takes some understanding ,hosts cannot get the app if we have a newer model phone.Ive tried a few times now and just told app is not supported on new devices. Also leaving a review for a volunteer is difficult when needing to find a specific person .I'm sure you could easily sort all this.Im friends with other hosts and they all say the same thing .Saying that I can't complain as this site is beneficial to many people .Regards

Workawayer depend on availability if agreed in the beginning. Sudden changes can give hard time, especially if canceled by host last minute.
Host should stick to their offers.
One time a host send me right away to a friends farm.
The experience with the farmer were wonderful, but
the host failed its agreement.
