I rented a car through Wheego (via QEEQ) at Manchester airport (UK) and prepaid everything, including full insurance. Upon return, I was shocked to receive a £300 charge for a so-called "Family Bundle" — which supposedly included a baby seat and GPS. Not only did I never request these extras, they were never even in the car.
Wheego claimed I “elected” the package because I used a debit card — completely false. I used a credit card, and their justification doesn't hold up. They sent a document I signed electronically just to collect the car, and are now using that to claim I agreed to these extras. It’s misleading at best, deceptive at worst.
The worst part: they refuse to refund, claiming the matter is closed. This feels like a deliberate trick to add hidden fees and make extra money off unsuspecting customers.
Do yourself a favor: avoid Wheego. I’ve never experienced such blatant dishonesty from a car rental company.

AVOID This company at all costs. Malaga office tried to charge me €50 for late arrival even though they ceased shuttle buses an hour before closing. They also tried to charge me €250 for extra insurance because their CDW insurance does not cover 3rd party. BEWARE of this insurance as an accident could turn into your worst nightmare. Stick with the larger well known companies. These are SHOCKING

I've hired many cars from many companies in many countries and have never had anything close to as bad of an experience as I did with Wheego at Manchester Airport. My first clue should have been that they aren't located in the main airport car rental park; you are made to walk or take a shuttle to the Clayton Hotel nearby. Once at the hotel, you have to walk through the lobby and the bar/dining room to get to Wheego's dingy little office in the corner. As soon as I stepped into the office the energy in the room was uncomfortable and off; that should have been my second clue.
When I arrived at the counter to pick up my vehicle, I was told that because my driving license was renewed in 2024 that I had less than 2 years driving experience and would have to pay a higher rental fee. They said if I could provide my expired license showing active for more than 2 years, they would waive the fee. I do not carry expired ID with me and it is egregious for a business to ask for ID that is no longer valid, but I offered to provide a photo of my expired ID nonetheless. This was not acceptable to them for some reason and they said I would have to pay an additional £400 because I did not have my physical expired driving license with me. I looked to see if other car hire providers could rent to me for less at the last second, but ultimately it ended up making the most sense to pay the additional £400. On my invoice from Wheego, the £400 charge is shown as "low pre auth fee" and I have asked multiple times what this means or why they didn't use language like "inexperienced driver fee" or something similar but they cannot justify this charge or what it even means in this context. How does one pay for a "low pre auth" and why would they need to and what does this even mean? It seems like a tactic to further muddy the waters and cause confusion to customers.
On return about 2 weeks later, I was accused of scuffing a wheel rim when I returned it in the same condition it was given to me. I did not take any pictures of the car before driving off with it (joke's on me I guess) and so had no way to refute this even though I know I did not cause the damage. When we went back to the Wheego office to discuss the damage and any possible charges, I was told it would cost £840 to repair the scuffed rim. I refuted this and refused to provide my credit card to pay for this, as I know a scuffed rim does not cost that much to repair. The employee then called his boss who was at home (I knew this because I could hear his kids yelling and screaming in the background), and had the boss look up my information on file. The boss then verbally provided my credit card number to the employee at the rental desk, who manually keyed in my credit card without my consent or authorization and charged me £840. He then handed me my receipt and said I was all set. I was so dumbfounded by the audacity of this that I didn't know how to respond but I did end up calling him out as a scammer, and he called me a gyp for refusing to pay.
Never again, you should be ashamed of yourselves. And don't give me your boilerplate response about how I shouldn't have experienced this and how great your company is and I should just reach out to customer service. I don't want it and I don't need it. Your business model is very clear from my experience and the other experiences posted here, and your ridiculous boilerplate responses aren't placating anyone. How a company like this is able to continue to operate in the UK is beyond me.
13/01/2026 Edit: Couldn't help yourselves could you? Your feigned empathy does nothing to fix the fact that your company stole money from me. I will be doing everything in my power to take you down.

I was denied the car for a booking made via Booking.com because my bank card shows my first name initial and full surname instead of the full first name (this is a standard and widely accepted banking practice in the UK).
What makes this unacceptable is that the very same card was immediately accepted for payment when I was forced to make a new booking on the spot - at a much higher price.
So according to Wheego, the card was not ok to release the car under the original booking, but somehow perfectly valid to charge me more money minutes later.
This inconsistency left me with no real choice and resulted in paying significantly more for the same rental.
Extremely disappointing experience, rigid rules applied selectively, and poor customer treatment. I cannot recommend this company.
‼️DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY‼️
1 star is actually too high!!!!!!
Avoid at all costs
'Cheap' rental for a reason
Had to get a taxi to the pick up point as transfer car never showed up, + €9 onto whatever you have already paid.
Bunch of hidden fees when collecting the car, excess of €1150 to be put on a credit card upon collection 'refundable' if no damage to the car.
Need to have a physical credit card with you to be able to pay for this as you cannot contactless it - not mentioned when booking either. German men in front of us when picking up had to be taken back to the airport because of this.
Picked the car up in the evening, took video of the car showing dents on the bonnet.
At drop off, told there were dents in the bonnet that were not there when we picked it up. It is going through 'complaints resolution' currently to see whether we will be charged.
0 log from Wheego Rental of previous damage on ANY car - SHOCK - so it can always be pinned on you no matter the evidence otherwise!!
Seems like they have done the same old trick with a bunch of people - anyone who isn't Spanish, looking at the reviews its happened countless times!!!
Rude staff, professional scam disguised as a business DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!

I recently hired a car from Wheego at Manchester Airport.
I arrived via train into Manchester Airport Train Station and walked across to the Wheego rental desk situated in the Clayton Hotel, some 5-10 minutes walk away. There is also a shuttle bus that shuttles you from the terminal to the hotel however it was just as quick to walk and it was a dry day.
This being my first ever rental with Wheego and having read some of the reviews prior to collecting the car, I was a bit wary due to several negative comments and reviews. However, I have hired with other similar rental companies such as Drivalia and Greenmotion so I understood the need for a Credit Card for the refundable deposit and from recollection it explains this during the booking process (booked via a 3rd party), which I've seen has caught many people out resulting in some negative feedback. The hire car was a lovely VW Golf and only a couple of months old with just over 3,000 miles on the clock. For the nearly £60 that I paid, this was amazing value for money, although I do find, that other rental companies, some named above also charge similar and they appear competitive.
My only criticism was that I never received a pre-existing damage report on collecting the car. I assumed that this was going to be emailed to me however one was never received. But, as a seasoned hirer, I ensured that I took plenty of photographs of the car upon collection, paying particular attention to existing damage which there was on the front bumper and on one of the alloy wheels which proved to be a lifesaver on my return. When checking the car back in, the damage to the front bumper was pointed out to me which I was told was new damage. However, I explained to the person checking the car over that this damage was pre-existing and could evidence this by my photographs that I had taken upon collection, and following a further discussion with another member of staff at the rental counter, it was agreed that this damage was pre-existing.
Overall, amazing value and a happy customer!
However I must stress the following:
1. You must have a credit card in the hirers name otherwise you will be caught out and be expected to pay an additional fee.
2. Insist for a copy of the pre-existing condition report for details of any existing damages etc and take plenty of photographs of the car paying particular attention to any existing damage which will assist you greatly should you need to challenge any discrepancies on the return of the vehicle.
I will certainly use Wheego again should they be the cheapest option.

Do not use! We had an unexpected damage claim relating to a small scratch to the back bumper of our hired car which we believe to be a pre-existing scratch or scam. The member of staff has spotted a little white scratch (smaller than a pound coin) in the back bumper (left side) of the car and insisted that the mark was not in the car before. There is no clear evidence of this. He also insisted that mandatory liability cover as part of the online booking would cover any damage to the body work including the bumper. He then insisted that we made a payment of the repair and that we would be reimbursed by our insurance protection. However liability cover does not include damage to the hired car. We felt pressured by time as we had to take our flight back home to the UK and were travelling with two little children and ended up mistakenly paying Wheego a total amount of €553.50 for the damage repair.
In addition the hired car had 7 other scratches registered on the Wheego company records but none of these had been repaired. Also, having these 7 marks registered does not mean that the car did not have other scratches. We have inspected the car before taking it but our pictures do not evidence otherwise due to light reflection.

With the rental there was no issue. BUT weeks after I returned the car I received an email claiming I have to pay for some penalties. The car which received these penalties wasn't even the one I rented. They took the money from my account immediately and despite of the fact I proved I am not responsible they refuse to refund my 480£.

I would strongly advise nobody to use this company.
I booked my rental online for £38, but when I arrived I was suddenly told I had to pay an additional £350. No warning. No explanation that made any sense.
When I said I’m not paying that, the man laughed and said ‘good luck finding another car to rent’
I left to arrange another rental and after standing my ground and making it very clear this wasn’t happening, they called me back in and “magically” reduced it to just over £100. That alone tells you everything you need to know.
When I was finally taken to the car, every alloy wheel was already scuffed and scratched. I insisted on filming the condition of the vehicle before driving off. Good job I did.
On return, surprise surprise, they tried to claim I’d caused new damage to the alloys. I showed them my video on the spot and the accusation immediately evaporated. No apology. No acknowledgement. Just the next customer in line.
This experience felt deliberately misleading from start to finish. Hidden charges, pressure tactics, and then an attempted damage claim on return. Make of that what you will.
Read the other reviews. You’ll spot a pattern very quickly.
Avoid this company unless you enjoy stress, disputes, and feeling like you need to constantly watch your back.
I felt very uneasy that they had my credit card information so changed my cards.

DO NOT USE! Total scammers. They refused to accept 2 perfectly good credit cards when I arrived to pick the car up at Manchester Airport, both of which worked perfectly well in the cafe next door, but mysteriously not in 'their machine.' This meant I was unable to leave a deposit for the car. They offered me an alternative 'deal' using a debit card ... for an extra £700!! I was unable to pick up my hire car in the end, as I refused to pay the ridiculous extra £700, completely ruining my trip to visit my elderly mother in residential care. I left in tears. Appalling, awful company. I will be going directly to the ombudsman. Avoid at all costs!
Update: Even your reply to this review is a SCAM! I've already emailed your so-called 'customer service' team who refuse to do anything to help.

Terrible company appalling customer service, shouted at me in a very derogatory when I questioned a charge for refulling service when I bought the car back full! and said i had requested this when booking, never ever experienced this when hiring cars from other hire companies abroad. On returning the car they found a mark which was not made by us and charged Just under 500 euros for it, be hyper vigilant if you use this company. Also they said they were unable to return the money for my fuel as my card transaction didnt work and were extremely unhelpful when i said they needed to sort it as it was there issue, eventually i had to let it go as we would of missed our flight, on rereading the paperwork they had been using someone elses receipt totally incompetent, AVOID AVOID

Following the reply from Wheego below I submitted the documentation to their Customer Service Department as they requested. This was their response:
"Please note that the charges applied at the time of rental were accepted and authorised by you. These charges were clearly presented prior to confirmation, and you had the option to cancel the booking if you did not wish to proceed. " So I had walked from the airport to their office at the Clayton Hotel in the pouring rain having already paid for this rental to be charged an extra £150, but I could have walked away! Where ? Who else could I have hired from late on a Friday night?
They added: "With regard to penalty points or driving endorsements, please be aware that exclusions apply to certain traffic violations.". Wheego Manchester are the only company I have EVER heard of who force customers to pay an extra £150 for an SP30. ( standard 3 point speeding charge). In fact I contacted Wheego at East Midlands Airport who said no extra charge would be applied for 3 points. Put simply : Wheego are a scam company who will rob you in any way they can. DO NOT USE THEM - EVER

🚨 SCAM ALERT – AVOID WHEEGO RENTALS AT ALL COSTS 🚨
DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY — I genuinely wish someone had warned me before I did.
My experience with Wheego Rentals at Warsaw Airport was one of the most frustrating, disappointing, and infuriating rental processes I have ever encountered.
From the moment I arrived, the staff aggressively pressured me to purchase their additional insurance. When I politely declined — because my credit card already provides full rental coverage — their attitude changed immediately. It felt as though I became an inconvenience the moment I said “no.”
The real shock occurred when I returned the vehicle.
An employee walked directly to one specific spot on the passenger door and pointed out a “scratch” so small it was practically invisible — roughly a 1 mm dot. I took photos, and even when zooming in, the mark is nearly impossible to see. I had picked up the car in the evening, and under normal conditions, no reasonable person would notice such a microscopic mark.
Despite this, I was immediately charged $250 for damage I absolutely did not cause.
Fortunately, my credit card company reviewed the evidence, conducted an investigation, and refunded me. I am hopeful they will block the transaction entirely, as no customer should be forced to pay for something so insignificant and undetectable.
Based on my experience, it appears that the company may rely on these tiny, barely visible “damages” as a way to collect additional fees from customers who do not challenge the charges. I have never felt more taken advantage of by a rental company.
Please save yourself the stress, the money, and the frustration.
Do NOT book with Wheego Rentals — ever.

dishonnest company. They make you sign a document to allow them to take the deposit even in case of minor damage to the car. You signed the documents online on their computer without reading properly. Then, when you check the car at the beginning, you realize there are around 6 minor damages not declared to their document.
When returning the car, they find the minor damage that you didn't see before and take all your money.

Scam artists - charged me £350 instead of making a hold on my credit card, and said the £350 fee was in replacement when I complained. The cost of the hire and full insurance was less than £200, I never consented to such a ridiculous charge of £350, complete rip off.

Stay away from Dryyve/Wheego at Vienna Airport – they are the same company and absolutely dishonest.
I bought full insurance before my trip, but at the counter they claimed it didn’t cover everything and forced me to pay another €150. When returning the car, their agent used a flashlight to find a few tiny marks (barely visible!) and charged me €100 more.
Two weeks later, I was charged another €100 because their GPS supposedly showed I crossed the border to Germany – which never happened. I asked for proof, but they completely ignored me.
This company is a scam. Unprofessional, unfair, and dishonest. What looked cheap turned into a nightmare.
Until I get my money back, I will keep posting negative reviews everywhere I can.

Scammers!
Booked and paid for a car and full insurance through rentalcars.com, received an email stating I only had to pay the deposit and another €12 for the additional driver.
Upon arrival they conveniently "don't take Amex" (at an international airport no less), refused to take the mastercard of the other named driver, and also refused cash. The only way to take the car was to use a debit card, which suddenly had an extra €177 insurance fee attached to it (despite written confirmation that I'd already paid full insurance, including the documents of the insurance policies).
These guys are scammers, avoid at all cost!
