Acoustic Research AR XA Turntable aka “Stock Daddy” Restoration

Amongst custom builders and restorers of vintage audio gear, Vintage HiFi Nut stands supreme. Matt finds the fundamental alchemy between a vintage restoration and a modern rebuild. He is an artist, engineer and magician.

I contacted him to build something from the broken AR XA pieces left to me by my father. There are not many who would provide the careful, precise and detailed level of service that Matt provides; there are not many who would be so patient and passionate, either, and his love for recorded audio is the equal of his own restoration abilities.

Receiving the turntable and installing the deck into my system brought back memories of my father and his joy of recorded music. In his prime he was confined to a wheel chair by Multiple Sclerosis. Unable to attend concerts, his stereo equipment became his way of receiving the joyous gift of music.

Matt has managed the astonishing feat of successfully restoring my father’s long lost turntable to life: in its vigorish sound I am reminded that my father’s legacy resides in those grooves.

Drove out from Medford to pick up a Rega table from Matt. When I got there he had it set up so I could demo it and we listened to the table and talked for a little while. A couple months later I had an issue with a weak channel and Matt looked at it and fixed it in maybe 30 minutes while I was doing other stuff in town. I only wish it was less of a drive

I was looking to upgrade my existing factory Sennheiser cable after using my HD650s for several years. I of course reached out to Matt at Vintage Hifi Nut for options on an upgrade. Matt was extremely helpful on suggesting the right cable for my price range. I really love the Cardas cable line, so I settled on the Parsec Headphone cable. If you don't see the Cardas product in the store initially, Matt can still get it for you. I noticed right away out of the box, how much more depth and clarity I was getting from the Parsec cable. Everything was crisper and smoother. After a little over a month I can say the difference from the factory cable is tremendous in my opinion. I get very little fatigue and can immerse myself for hours with these headphones and the new Parsec cable. Cardas and Vintage Hifi Nut are highly recommended for any of your cable needs. Superior!!
