Well worth making the time to join in

Really good preparatory instructions sent well before to enable one to source materials.
Excellent teaching in a relaxed manner. Four hours of pastelling with a half hour break - tiring but very satisfying! Thoroughly recommend.

Emma's workshop was so very helpful

Emma's workshop was so very helpful. She is such a great teacher, took nothing for granted, but rather walked us through everything. Lots and lots of information we can all use to increase our skillset, including the WHY's. Excellent workshop! Thank you Emma :)

Emma Colbert's Wildlife workshop superb!

Emma Colbert's Wildlife workshop was excellent. Having never done animals/portraits or worked on velour paper - her terrific teaching and guidance allowed me to produce an incredible, life-life animal portrait - her process and easy to follow steps made this class one of the best virtual-teaching instructions I've ever had - THANK YOU!

I am a true beginner with pastels but…

I am a true beginner with pastels but found the Lioness demonstration and instruction amazing. It was very thorough and well paced. I like Emma Colbert's calm confidence, which seems to translate to the viewer. I plan to subscribe to one of her monthly plans, and will be watching for other Unison offerings. I'm hooked!

All around, this experience was excellent.

I haven't done a formal art training session since art school. All around, this experience was excellent.

The information concerning materials required and references provided by Emma Colbert were received in a timely manner allowing time for preparation, including doing an under drawing. A tip of the hat to Unison for getting the needed pastels to me well in advance of the session allowing time to prepare swatches. With current supply chain challenges this was a concern. The set's colour range filled a number of gaps in my pastel collection and I am using the set in other paintings now.

The 4-5 hour session itself was a great experience. Emma Colbert provided an excellent real time narrative of each step of the process as she did them. Technique was explained while it was being demonstrated. Ordinarily a pastel painting this size would take me 16 to 20 hours. Trying to complete the full painting in the time available was going to be a real challenge. The fact that I was able to compete the painting in the time allowed proved to me just how valuable a session it was, and how skilled the Master. I went into the session with a good foundation in drawing and oil painting, but pastels are a relatively new medium for me. I have always found I can learn more from a Master in a few hours than I can in after weeks of my own practice and this was no exception. I will definitely be looking for similar opportunities from Unison and Emma Colbert and recommend the experience unreservedly.

Lioness Workshop by Emma Colbert

I thought the Lioness workshop was truly amazing. I did not think I would be able to complete the painting during the live session, but managed to follow Emma throughout. Her instruction and the way the workshop was set up was first rate. I was so thrilled by what I had achieved and it has filled me with so much confidence and enthusiasm. I cannot wait for the next one. Many thanks to all those involved.

Thank so much Unison and Nina Squire for the Durdle Door Challenge

The Durdle door was a fabulous piece of landscape which incorporated a large portion of seascape and rendering this under Nina’s instruction delivered a great learning experience.

There were a list of materials required (though many used what they had), PDF handouts a video and Q& A session each day.

Nina’s tuition was excellent incorporating the use of liquids to paint the pastels on, and the generous sharing of a number of hints for those new to Pastelling, also personal photos and video of the scene.

Feedback and question responses were timely and excellent with peer support through the dedicated facebook group with all encouraged to share their progress.

It was also interesting to view a video of the history of unison made available through the group
Thank you Unison and thank you for sharing your expertise and increasing that of so many participants Nina.

I highly recommend the Unison pastel…

I highly recommend the Unison pastel challenges. I have done 3 so far and learned so much from the different artists running the courses. They guide you through techniques and ways of using the pastels with very clear and easy to follow videos. The beauty of the videos is that you can watch and rewatch them. They also support individually with live question and answer sessions.

Pastel fun.........

Just completed a 5 day Unison challenge with Nina Squires. The whole experience is organised so efficiently by the Unison team who work tirelessly to ensure that you get the best out of the challenge irrespective of your own individual level. I have completed several of these now and cannot fail to be impressed by their attention to detail and would definitely recommend them in the future as a good taster for pastel use and broadening your skills and techniques in a fun environment.

5 Day Pastel Challenge: Durdle Door with Nina Squire

I loved this challenge, excellent instruction and support, everyone has been encouraging, a new technique on a different surface and the opportunity to use some of my new unison pastels, I usually work in coloured pencil, but I am finding pastel much better for land and seascapes. I have found both 5 day challenges really valuable on my pastel journey, thank you

New approach to soft pastels.…

This was a great introduction into using soft pastels in a new way. I usually work with watercolour and the addition of pastels works well.
The only downside was accessing the daily classes with Facebook. I do use Facebook socially but it’s not great for on line tutoring.

Unison and Nina Squire Durdle door challenge

Fantastic 5 day challenge, Nina is an excellent tutor who is down to earth and makes everyone feel welcome, she explains her techniques and how to use the media so clearly and gives so much more. This is the 3rd challenge I have completed with Unison who are generous with their time and expertise in facilitating these workshops, and of course the pastels are a joy to paint with, I would thoroughly recommend either for a beginner or a more developed artist always something to learn from Nina. Thank you for the opportunity of these completely free challenges.

very good experience! ready for another one...

I am a regular customer at Jacksons buying frequently soft pastels, mainly Unisons, Terry Ludwig, Jackson's, and I happened to see these 5 days challenge on the UNISON FB. I decided to try my hand although landscape isnt my first choice while painting. I enjoyed it very much and it really was a challenge to get something good out of it, but I think that this experience was worthwhile and furthermore I appreciated the short duration as I dont have too much free time at present. I'm ready to do another one again...... I appreciated also Nina Squire advices and regular presence with her encouragements.
