I'm Officially a professional coach and this was partly due to the empathetic and encouraging nature of my tutor Mel. There were times where I didn't think I would complete the course but being open and honest with my tutor was all part of the journey.
This course is great to fit around work and kids as I did. Being a solo parent this root was the only one I could work around full-time work and parenting.
Having a tutor to check in with keeps you accountable and makes you feel supported throughout the course.

If becoming a coach is something you've been wanting to do I recommend contacting UK College of Personal Development and seeing if it is right for you.

I have just completed my Foundation Diploma in Life Coaching, and trained through UKCPD.

Everything about the training experience has been superb. The online portal is stacked full of helpful literature and easy to access.

My tutor was Mel Richens, who was very supportive, knowledgeable, patient and always available with invaluable advice and practical guidance.

I had an absolutely amazing experience completing my ILM training with UKCPD and would highly recommend them to anyone considering a coaching or leadership qualification.

The support throughout the course was excellent, particularly from my tutor, Mel. She was incredibly knowledgeable, approachable, and genuinely invested in my development. Her guidance, encouragement, and timely feedback made a huge difference, especially as I was balancing my studying (which was challenging) alongside my full-time job role.

The training materials were clear, well-structured, and easy to follow, while still offering the depth and challenge expected at ILM Level 7. Everything felt practical, relevant, and aligned to real-world application rather than purely academic theory.

I also really appreciated the flexible payment structure. Being able to spread the cost of the course across the year made it far more accessible and removed a lot of financial pressure.

Since completing the qualification in December, a number of new opportunities have opened up for me, both professionally and personally, and the confidence I’ve gained from the programme has been invaluable.

I had a great experience as someone who got fascinated by the idea of life coaching, without wanting to shift careers per se. I completed the Foundations in Coaching course with guidance from my tutor Mel.

Since the course is online and self-paced, it allows for incredible flexibility. It is up to you to decide how fast or slow you want to get through all the learnings. It took me about 14 months to complete it and I thoroughly enjoyed learning through my practice clients what common struggles people face and how I, as a personal/life coach, can help them achieve their goals.

I would just say that the user interface of the course itself could be improved and it would be great to get more content resources to deepen theoretical knowledge on coaching tools/techniques, though I know this was intended to be an introductory course. My tutor was always available for any questions I had and the whole experience has prompted me to reflect on my own perspectives in life too.

Even though I see my ability now to function as a professional coach as a side hustle, I would recommend anyone to learn and experience being a personal coach.

I'm a student with UKCPD, currently studying for a Diploma in Life Coaching with NLP. I have a background in criminal law, but for flexibility as a single parent, I became self-employed in domestic help and care services. With the family now grown and flown, I realised I needed a new challenge in my life, and started looking at course options in the field of personal development.

As prospective coaching students will discover, there's an abundance of distance learning courses available online, all claiming 100% success rates, happy customers and competitive pricing. However, these plaudits are rarely matched by the student experience. Reviews often cite a low level of professionalism, lacklustre student support and poor value for money. Happily I stumbled accross UKCPD and everything changed...

The website was so informative it was immediately apparent that this was a highly professional organisation. An introductory chat with Tony Nutley confirmed my initial impressions, so I signed up immediately!

I have now completed 2 weekends of the 10 weekend course, and having overcome my initial nerves (being a mature student away from the classroom for too many decades) I'm really enjoying it. There's a lot to learn, but the course manual covers everything in depth and the seminars are recorded for future use. The website also has lots of useful material and podcasts for additional reference.

Tony has vast experience in coaching and NLP. He really supports his students, always answering emails and being available at the end of the phone for help and reassurance. My fellow students are from many different professional backgrounds and are all highly motivated and enthusiastic. This is clearly a reflection of Tony's passion for his subject.

I cannot rate UKCPD high enough - really first class.
Tony is a GREAT trainer, along with Mel and Chris. Plus all the assistance who had previously done the course- everyone was so supportive and knowledgeable.
The course content, workload and sessions were of a great standard and the course flowed well, building on each session and practising with peers.
I also love the fact that when your course finishes, your still part of the college, plus there is so much information and other courses to do.
I did the Business and Life Coaching Diploma with NLP Practitioner. I'm now looking to do the coaching accreditation with UKCPD.

My initial conversation with UKCPD came from a place of wanting to undertake the training but being somewhat nervous and feeling totally unprepared.

Tony (the founder) provided my first introduction to the college at a discovery meeting, which I found rare. Usually you are palmed off with an administrator so to have the man at the top on the initial call was reassuring.

As for the course itself, it was enlightening. Not only did I learn so much from the materials and completed the training in life and business coaching, and am now an NLP practitioner, the gentle but assertive way the course is taught made me come to many of my own realisations about my own abilities.

What UKCPD does extremely well is to make a cohort of students feel like a proper cohort who can work together. I enjoyed the mix of practical and theoretical elements and the 'no question is a silly question' attitude. Their aim is for you to pass, not to fail, and they will do their utmost to help with that. Despite many self-doubts throughout, I always felt supported and seen by the course tutors and advisors.

Tony himself has always been available, not some sort of founding demigod who is only ever seen by their image on the website. He is hands on, available, professional, and fun with it. As you progress through the materials and training weekends you receive so much feedback from tutors and peers, that if you absorb it, you can genuinely become a better practitioner.

Aside from the training, they provide many 'extras' from supervisions to the Coaches Growth Club, regular emails and events, discounted memberships, the list is endless.

Until I trained with UKCPD I actually felt pretty lost in my career. They gave me renewed enthusiasm and confidence in this line of work. Within a few months of starting the course I already had new clients.

I was thrilled when I found this course - I wanted to gain as many skills as possible, and the UKCPD is brilliant at covering a huge array of models and techniques. I loved the flexibility this would give me as a coach.

A year ago I went on a personal journey of stripping away the 'noise' and 'busyness' in my life. When I felt ready, I felt that NLP would be my way forward, and when I met Tony, I knew the UKCPD was the place for me to begin.

Needed the ILM certificate as a company pre-requesite of formal management qualification for a promotion. I thought this would just be a box-ticking exercise given my extensive background in managing teams and that the course would not add too much value. To put it simply, I was wrong. While I did have practical experience and had my own unique style of team management, the course incentivised me:
- To do extensive research on the theory aspect of leadership and management,
- Think about various management styles in the company and beyond,
- Familiarise myself with all relevant policies and procedures in my organisations,
- Apply knowledge in a team setting.
UKCPD has a bank of tools available to learners, and I suggest you use them. I want to also give a shoutout to my dedicated instructor, Melanie Richens, who spared no effort in supporting me and always being there to answer my questions and review my submissions.
A great experience all in all.

I've just completed by ILM Level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring via UKCPD.
They have been brilliant from start to completion - lots of helpful resources, templates and training sessions.
Mel (my assigned tutor) has given me great support and advice, and Tony's daily/weekly inspirational quotes and videos have been very motivational.

I first passed my ILM Level 5 10 years ago. However an admin error at the time meant that the information never got fully passed over to the ILM. When I started working as a coach in 2024 I found out that I needed to redo elements of my qualification. UKCPD were extremely professional and patient at helping me navigate what needed to be done. I cannot thank Mel and Tony enough.

I had an excellent experience with the UK College of Personal Development. It was a straight forward enrollment, materials sent over promptly and affordable! I was able to develop my knowledge and skills as well as balancing other aspects of my life. My assingned tutor Mel was so supportive and flexible. Attended the coaching supervision workshop. Loved it. What impresses me the most with UKCPD is how they continually surpass expectations. The same experience with this workshop. Michelle explained the premise and the session flowed. It was great to hear the knowledge from other coaches. Again UKCPD do an excellent job connecting their learners.
