Avoid - service can no longer be accessed

AVOID - Service cannot be accessed. My father used The TechTeam without any issues for over 5 years with an annual invitation to renew cover. However, in March 24 payment was taken via credit card without any prior notification and the team cannot be contacted (usual number not operational, same for additional number on website, no response to email, shop on Farringdon Road is not staffed at shown opening times). We have now successfully obtained reimbursement via the credit card company.

No good

I tried all the phone numbers on the website and all are not available ie not known. This company had a shop on Farringdon Road, North Shields where I took out an annual contract for my laptop. The shop closed but I was told I could still ring for IT support. Not happening! Poor service!

Please avoid this company as much as…

Please avoid this company as much as possible. I bought a laptop from TechyTeam in the middle of January but i didn't receive it even though they said it was delivered to my pouch on the 31st January with a photograph taken and despite paying the full amount for the laptop. I feel scammed and disappointed with the company and I'll never recommend them to anyone.

Not a good employer

Update: Jonny finally has paid the full amount.

Previous:
I'm sad to have to write this review but after many failed weeks I have tried to get Jonny Thompson (the owner) to do the honest thing and pay me for the work I did for him.

I worked as a callout computer repair engineer for a total of 13 weeks (26 Sep to 18 Dec 23).

While working for him I had no issues being reported from him or his staff about the jobs so I assumed everything was going fine and they were happy with my work.

I did get some good feedback about customers being happy with my work when the office would call to take payment.

Everything was happy days.

The problems only started when Jonny failed to pay me after I submitted my invoice.

His first excuse was - "it's taking time to go through the job sheets to confirm payments"

This dragged on for weeks. Excuse after excuses.

Eventually after many emails he paid me £2,196 of the £4,350 he owed.

He promised to pay the remaining amount at the end of that week.

I really thought it was all sorted but no.

That day came and past. No final payment.

All further communication has failed as he's ignoring my emails now.

I even offered if he was having money issues to work out a payment plan to spread the remaining payment but no reply from him.

I can only assume he's taken the coward route and hoping I'll just go away. He is wrong as I plan to submit a small claim against him.

Looking back I saw all the red flags but I'm a trusting person, this time I trusted the wrong person. I have learned a hard lesson from this experience. There are bad people out there. 😢

Who am I? I've been a sole trader for 12 years doing computer repair and maintenance work under my own company Developing Ways.

You can see my Yell reviews to make your own mind up of my character.

Search Yellow Pages for "Developing Ways" use location "Wallsend" to find me.

If your reading this and are currently working for Jonny then please be careful, don't let him do what he's done to me.

I saw all the red flags and ignored them, please don't do the same.

Feel free to call or contact me about work or just a chat about Jonny - I know I wanted to.

He really is a nasty person.

P.s. He's moving on to another company "Everything Digital Group" and "The Odd Jobs Company" and "BridgingTheGap.support" watch out for them. As the saying goes "a leopard never changes its spots"

Brilliant service at my convenience

I had a laptop from brand new (Lenovo ideapad 530S) which I use for my line of work. After four years of regular use the memory was getting clogged due to the numerous softwares/programs I had installed for work purposes and needed an upgrade from 250Gb SSD to a 1Tb SSD. Due to my busy schedule I couldn't find the time to walk into a computer repair centre to have an upgrade installed so I searched online to look for a technician nearby and that's how I made contact with Jonny Thompson. I had my laptop collected from my workplace and within a day an upgrade was installed and laptop delivered the following day at a very fair price of £125. What more could I have asked for, kudos Jonny and thank you for a good job done

Messaged from 2 phones and the main office sounded skeptical.

Johnny messaged me off 2 different phones and made an appointment for between 9:30-11. Got told "it's an easy fix (screen) should be no more than an hour and around £150.... Waited all morning, no show. Rang the office number and told "he can be there between 1 and 3... No sorry. I explained to him I had meetings that day and needed my laptop fixed ASAP. That's why we agreed the time/cost.
I'll go to my local computer shop and see them, instead.

AVOID!

Johnny has now removed himself off the website to try hide from the flack he's getting!

He's operating under a dissolved company.

His company does not provide DBS checks to anyone, he's a crook.

He scams the older generation for the most basic services!

his database is open to public viewing (customer cards are on show and personal info!)

Clare who works for him is just as bad as johnny.

His facebook page is gone (which says ALOT)

AVOID at all costs

Their whole Customer database is open to the entire internet, all your personnel information will NOT be secure. They have been reported to the ICO and a formal complaint made.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! Had display issues on a previous laptop whereby it wouldn't turn on. Said this to the company who have ended up charging me for a new motherboard only for that to then not fit the device. Following this they gave me a new device which might as well be a potato because it's performance is utterly abysmal.

They have stolen my laptop

They have stolen my laptop! Please avoid at all costs. Terrible fraudulent company. I paid £180 up front for a new screen and they asked for another £100. They have had the laptop for 3 months and it is still not fixed! Communication is awful. This is still ongoing.

I feel sorry for those working for this…

I feel sorry for those working for this company, having had the misfortune of doing so myself. The owner is a nasty piece of work when he wants to be and treats staff as disposable. The (mostly) elderly customers don't really know they're being ripped off a lot of the time - such as £65 for a "health check" which basically consists of running CCleaner and Microsoft update. No contract, not paid on time, just awful really. Really sorry I wasted my time with this company.

Would give 0 stars if I could

Would give 0 stars if I could . I tried to support a local small business and it back fired massively. Their quote of 180 pounds for a cracked screen was way off but they already had my work laptop got asked for an additional 370 pounds to fix which I paid . Had my laptop for 2 months but wasn’t fixed , I had it returned still broken and had to call over 15 times for a refund before I gave up and started a dispute with my credit card company. They are that bad I can only assume it’s a scam. I would avoid at all costs

I have read the detrimental reviews about this company and sincerely hope this staff member is treated well and paid fairly. We are elderly and appreciate this company's prompt help. No problems for us, polite office staff and we feel the charge was fair.

Scam

Scam

They scam the elderly and people who don't know any better. Employees are self employed and have 0 rights but are made to sign clandestine contracts which doesn't even include public liability insurance but does include the right to withhold payments.

Avoid at all costs.

I worked for them for awhile, was let go for something I did not do. Was not paid at the rate I was told I would do, had to wait 2 months for my money but still not paid correctly. The staff is always changing.

Avoid!

*Edited to add that the director gave out my personal address to another staff member, without my permission. This is a breach of GDPR*

I would avoid TheTechTeam if I were you:

Worked here for a week doing call outs. Was immediately booted off Slack and the jobs portal when I pointed out that the portal wasn't working properly and had to re-enter information. For a tech company this is poor! Got a message off another worker who said that I was right and the portal is rubbish, the company sounds dodgy and they haven't been paid properly. For a tech company, I would expect a system that works! Childish MD who won't even speak to me on the phone. Doesn't read messages properly, and communication between The tech team, and their self employed workers is terrible- I sent a message asking for guidance and to update my personal details, and it was ignored. Avoid at all costs, sounds so dodgy! Most of the clients are elderly, and it's possible that they're being ripped off, although I wasn't with the company long enough to know really! Hoping I get paid for the work I have done!
