Awful - avoid the spa days at all costs

This was a genuinely awful experience from start to finish and a complete waste of money.

As a Christmas gift, my partner received a £150 spa voucher for The Connaught. I decided to join her and pay the extra so we could make a day of it together. She had been really looking forward to this, which made the disappointment even worse.

From the moment we arrived, the staff made it feel as though our presence was an inconvenience. The atmosphere was flat and unwelcoming, and the entire place felt tired and neglected. It looks like it may have been nice in the 1990s and simply hasn’t been updated since.

The spa facilities themselves were shockingly run down. Around 70% of the lights in the steam room didn’t work, and the ones that did flickered constantly. There was a damp, mouldy smell throughout. Overall, it felt less like a luxury spa and more like a poorly maintained council leisure centre.

After the spa we went upstairs for lunch. We both ordered the soup of the day (potato and leek). It was dreadful — clearly straight out of a tin, watery, flavourless, and barely edible. Neither of us managed more than a couple of spoonfuls. The spaghetti that followed was even worse, with an odd metallic, almost petrol-like smell. Again, completely inedible. We took a few bites and gave up. The plates were taken away without comment, apology, or even an offer of an alternative. We were left hungry.

The massage was the final nail in the coffin. We were booked for a hot stone massage and had specifically called ahead to confirm we could be in the same room, which we were told was absolutely fine. On the day, however, one of the therapists flatly refused, insisting it had “never been done before.” What followed was an awkward, visible argument between staff members while we sat waiting. Eventually, another therapist agreed to use the couples room, while the original one refused altogether. Once again, we were made to feel like a burden rather than paying guests.

In total, this cost us £240, and it was worth absolutely none of it. We left feeling frustrated, uncomfortable, and far from relaxed. I would strongly advise anyone considering this spa to save their money and look elsewhere.

Good value for the price

The Hotel was easy to find and had sufficient parking, upon check in the room was ready early and the staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful, the room was nice, not as well cleaned as some other hotels we have stayed in but acceptable for the price, some of the furniture was a bit tired, and a chair was very wobbly, we had a TV and tea and coffee making facilities enough for a couple of drinks each, the hair dryer was a good addition, the bed was large and comfortable, however there was a constant hum from something outside our window, A/C maybe, which was a bit annoying, we had dinner in the restaurant, again the young lady who looked after us was great, she was from Italy, I didn't get her name, the food arrived promptly and was delicious, I treated myself to a steak which was spot on, overall for the price I would defiantly stay here again, good value for money, and again congrats on your staff, 100%.

A very enjoyable break despite the problems

We have just returned from a five-night stay at this hotel and would like to say how much we enjoyed it. We stayed in the Tulip Suite, breakfasted in our room and ate in the dining room in the evening. The breakfasts were excellent, ranging from full English to something lighter and the chef(s) cooked special fish dishes for us for dinner. We do not eat meat and are fond of our vegetables. There were problems beyond the hotel's control during the week, in that the foyer floor was being re-laid and the lounge was noisy for longer than the builder had promised, but this did not impact us elsewhere in the hotel. For two days the hot water system caused problems, a nightmare for the staff in the main hotel building, but we were allowed free use of a shower in the annexe as an alternative. All in all, we were made to feel very special and given personal attention that more than made up for the difficulties. We shall return at the end of the month and are already looking forward to the experience.

Mid term break with the kids

We came up from co clare and stayed here for 2 nights during kid's(9yr ,12 yr old boy) mid term 15/16 Feb ,the hotel is very reasonably priced, check in is quick! And the kids feel at home right away, the kids club /entrainment options are fantastic, we booked breakfast and stayed flexible on dinner options, but what made our stay is the kindness and efforts of some of the staff (like the bar restaurant waiters Jack) who went above and beyond to make our stay so special, we also want to say a big thank you to Chiara L too! This lady was amazing every where we turned she is there (when she is not greeting you at Reception, she’s up making your kids so welcome at the kids club and often she can be spotted out in the hedge cleaning up the hotel grounds! 🤩 The people in this hotel make our stay! Thank you ,from all the Benn family,co Clare ,looking fwd to seeing you all again soon!

Birthday Spa Day

Celebrating a birthday Spa Day treat with my daughter at Bluewater Spa at the Connaught Hotel Bournemouth.
Good parking when we arrived and friendly greeting from the receptionist. Invited to sit in the restaurant with a drink and the day was explained. Downstairs to meet another receptionist and shown around the Spa. £20 deposit for the robes (just a note to say a choice of sizes would have been an advantage, both supplied were 'Large' and suitable for size 8-10!!) Good size pool and not too many guests. The water was a bit salty... expected chlorine? Someone forgot to switch on the Sauna so this was out of action for the duration of our visit. The steam room smelt a little stale and could use some aromatherapy oils. Feeling a little disappointed as this was not a cheap Spa Day experience. 12.30 lunch, absolutely scrumptious, starter and main were gourmet and delicious. Then treatments of Back, Neck and Shoulder Massage and Facial. Faultless. Hannah was amazing and I can't wait to go back. The day was redeemed by the food and treatments. In addition the Customer Service from all the staff was excellent.
