I feel with Nick's course do really maximise your benefit from it you have to use SQL day to day. As someone who knew some of the theory but did not use it I found it very hard to apply to my day job to make long term gains.

I used to learn from datacamp and whilst it had its advantages the BI school has so much going for it:
1. Help from industry expert - Nick has weekly sessions to troubleshoot but can meet ad hoc too
2. BUSINESS applications of SQL- often in datacamp you would learn SQL through databases of films or movies but the databases Nick uses in his programme allow for more business insight
3. The programme itself is very well divided into Walk,Run and Fly and traverses through all the skills you need to succeed using SQL.
4. Explanation- as an ex teacher of 10 years I can say hands down Nick is a great instructor and is able to troubleshoot any issues in my code no matter how minute.

Nick also takes feedback very well.

Overall the only challenge is organising myself to fit this around work and family…

It’s not guaranteed to get me a job but I definitely have become a lot more knowledgeable due to it! I have also loved learning about advanced SQL functions and it has opened my eyes !

The course is split into different chapters which cover a range of skill levels, so I feel that my skills are being built from basic to more advanced gradually.

The course starts with ‘Wake’ where you are guided through set up of SQL server and databases. The course is designed specifically for Windows users. As a Mac user, I found there was limited guidance on how to set up for Mac OS. I found it easiest to employ a virtual Windows machine via software available via Parallel.com. This has allowed me to follow the set up instructions exactly.

The chapters then range from ‘Walk’, ‘Run’’,Fly’, ‘Soar’ to ‘Interview Preparation' and ‘Challenging Yourself’. Each chapter has about 10 lessons which range from 30 to 60 minutes.

The online tutorials are clear and interesting. The tutor takes you through the content in depth at a good pace. He adopts a conversational style, which makes the course fun. I have felt this has helped me understand the theory as it feels like he is in the room with me.

At the end of each session, there is a useful challenge, testing my knowledge of the content. Each challenge cross references other lessons, so that I have consolidated my SQL and problem solving skills. I have benefited from the tutor running through his solution in a video. As well as having the written code to download as well.

The tutor is always willing to help and actively asks you to “keep turning up”. There is a lot of content covered, which goes into a lot of depth. The course is designed to teach me the need to not only employ best practice coding skills, but also think about the problem solving logic required to answer business queries.

What makes the Bi School stand out is the level of communication and support available. There are weekly evening group calls on Zoom although these tend to be only attended by a few people at a time.

There is also a What’s App group, or I can message the tutor at any time as well as weekly emails. I have benefited most by booking 121 calls during working hours. To get the most out of these calls I have found it helps to be very specific about the questions for which I need assistance.

All of which means I have always been able to get support if I get stuck. This is a big advantage over other online SQL courses, where there is just videos or text solutions only.

I have really enjoyed the course so far. I have developed my SQL skills as well as developed as a data analyst by developing my data problem solving skills.

As a master’s graduate in Computer Science specializing in Big Data Analytics, I found that The BI School helped fill in the gaps in my knowledge and skills.

Gaining hands-on experience and upskilling can be challenging, especially when juggling a full-time job and family commitments. The BI School addresses this by offering regular catch-ups and direct communication with the tutor. This goes beyond just watching and replicating video content—you can ask questions and have motivating conversations with the tutor.

Having previously taken courses on Udemy and LinkedIn, I found that what sets The BI School apart is its tailored approach to preparing you for the next step in your career. The course content is highly relevant to roles in analytics or business intelligence, making it valuable for both advancing in your current position and preparing for future opportunities.

I highly recommend The BI School and Nick, who has been incredibly supportive to every student in the program. If you have a niche area of interest, don’t hesitate to ask—Nick might have a solution or come up with one for you!

Although I am currently taking a break from the course due to family commitments, I plan to continue. Despite not finishing the entire course yet, I’ve made significant progress and feel more confident in my skills. I’m optimistic that what I’ve learned so far will help me achieve my career goals.

I started my role of Junior Business Intelligence Developer in December 2022 and needed help in improving my SQL skills so joined the BI School course alongside some mentorship whilst on the job.
The course has been brilliant in giving me some great knowledge and good tips to improve my skills and Nick as a mentor has been of great help willing to accommodate my queries and challenges at my workplace in a fast efficient way.
The course and mentorship has trained me up to a high standard and helped my role much easier to settle into. I am extremely grateful for the advice, time and expert coaching in helping me excel in my skills.

The BI school SQL superhero programme was excellent because of the easy to follow videos, real world examples and live tutoring which is also available. If you get stuck, Nick is available via phone to contact straight away and he talks you through the solution. There is nothing like this on youtube or even on coursera. You have a personal and hands on tutor in Nick and that is the game changer. I am more confident in my SQL now than I was before and to be honest, I've tackled really complex solutions. Great course.

Nick goes in-depth in his SQL program, and the challenges at the end of each course are designed to significantly enhance your SQL knowledge. I’ve taken several SQL courses, and I can confidently say that Nick’s is by far the best. This is a program built on real experience, it is no joke.

I joined the BI school to advance my SQL skills as someone who works in data. I must say it has been one of the best decisions I have made.

Lessons in each module are explained thoroughly and as students we have weekly zoom meetings with Nick where you can address any challenges you’re saying or even talk about your improvements. Doing this really helps with your weekly progress and you can visibly see your growth. Personally, I would say the challenges at the end of each lesson has been my favorite.

I will definitely recommend the BI school to anyone new to SQL or with some level of SQL but would want to advance their skills to join the BI School.

I finished the SQL training course, and I have to tell that it was a great experience. From simple queries to advanced queries, the training material was thorough structured and organised. Nick is well-informed and gave concise explanations, which made difficult ideas simple to grasp. The weekly sessions with Nick are practical and hands-on. The practical activities were especially helpful since they let me use what I had learnt in actual situations. All things considered, this training has greatly increased my confidence in managing database duties and my SQL skills. Anyone who wants to improve and have solid SQL skills should take this course, in my opinion.

I recently started a new role as a Business Intelligence analyst and as part of this new, more technical role I decided to up-skill and improve my basic SQL knowledge.

When researching courses by chance I came across Nick on Reddit and decided to give The BI School a shot. I had already done courses previously on bigger platforms such as Coursea and DataCamp and found there was always a lack of accountability and inability to further question and explore certain aspects of the course when enrolled.

From the outset Nick was enthusiastic, professional and willing to accommodate where necessary. The course is primarily in SQL Server however as my workplace use Oracle Nick went out of his way to use Oracle when there was large differences between the two languages ensuring I covered everything.

The course is run with weekly check-ins over Zoom. This is mainly why I chose The BI School as I liked the idea of meeting someone face to face and for me personally it helped me stay on track with the course. After the end of each check in Nick gave me additional challenges to work on, and was always on hand to guide me in the right direction whenever I got stuck.

The course probably covered more than enough for my new role, which has made the role a lot easier to settle in to.

Without a doubt Nick is a SQL expert and a fantastic mentor. I'd like to thank Nick for sharing his knowledge and experience with me and wish him all the best in the future with The BI School.

Over the last few months I have participated in Nick's SQL Superhero training to build upon my basic understanding of SQL code within my public sector BI role. The course is very well-structured, starting with the basic queries and journeying through to more advanced concepts and functions. My knowledge and understanding of SQL has been greatly enhanced, and I've already been able to apply some of the skills into my analyst role. Nick is readily available to answer any questions, and his lesson challenges are pitched at the right level to test your knowledge and problem-solving abilities. Nick not only teaches the fundamentals of the SQL language, but also what constitutes good code practice and discipline.
