Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 26 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently reported that the meat products had a foul, rotten smell and appeared spoiled even before the expiry date. Many people also had to throw away their purchases because the items were completely unsafe for consumption, noting that the packaging often hid discolored or fatty pieces. Some reviewers were not happy with the pricing and incorrect weights of their items, finding themselves overcharged for smaller quantities. Additionally, shoppers experienced poor customer service, including unhelpful or rude staff behavior and frustratingly long waiting times when visiting the stores.

Serious Health and safety warning !!

Rated 1 because -10 is not an option
This is the second time I’ve experienced this brands substandard meat
Purchased on the day that it was intended to be cooked. On opening the pack I was hit with a stench that can only be compared to rotting meat way beyond its shelf life. Immediately repackaged but the stench was intolerable. I called Sainsbury’s to let them know I would not be driving back with this rotting meat in my car. Thankfully they completely understood. It beggars belief that the manufacturers are unaware of this disgraceful feedback (I see I’m not alone in this review site)
My only worry is now that I had to dispose of the rotting meat in my bin, will it attract rats / or become maggot infested.
Some serious health and safety issues I’d say Tariq Halal. I would urge everyone to exercise extreme caution or simply avoid this brand!!

Very bad quality

Very bad quality – awful smell from chicken fillets (Tarif Halal brand)

I recently bought Tarif Halal chicken thigh fillets from Sainsbury’s (best before 23 Oct). Today is only 19 Oct, but both packs I opened had a very strong, rotten smell — clearly spoiled despite being within the date.

This is actually the second time I’ve had this same issue with Tarif Halal products from Sainsbury’s, and it’s unacceptable. I will never buy this brand again, and I strongly recommend others to check before purchasing.

Sainsbury’s should really investigate this supplier and remove these products from their shelves. Food safety and freshness should be a top priority, and this experience has completely destroyed my confidence in buying fresh meat from Sainsbury’s.

Lean Beef?? Hahaha!

Bought 2 packs of "Lean Beef" pieces from Sainsburys. Looks fine from the wrapping. Open the packaging and you see some fatty and stringy pieces hidden at the bottom which cant be seen from packaging window. Funnily enough the same problem with both.

Chicken pieces had splinters…

Bought chicken for currying but found splinters which are dangerous.
Butcher at Hounslow branch chopped the chicken instead of using the machine to cut pieces.
Disappointed.

Do not shop in their Streatham High…

Do not shop in their Streatham High Road branch if you care about hygiene. I live in the apartments above this butcher, and the state they leave the shared rear area in is atrocious.

This pathway should be clean for residents to access the bins and garden, but instead, it has become a foul-smelling, trash-filled, fly-infested mess.

They treat the communal space—shared by residents and other businesses—as their personal dumping ground. They routinely leave bones, meat scraps, and dirty packaging to rot, making no effort to dispose of them properly. Their waste attracts rodents and foxes, which scatter the rubbish further into the garden, making it unsafe for families and children who live here.

No amount of complaints to building management or directly to the business has resulted in any improvement. In summer, the stench of rotting meat and garbage rises into our windows and inside our apartments.

If this is how they maintain the area outside, I dread to think of their hygiene practices inside. Reading the other reviews about food poisoning and expired meat, I’m sadly not surprised.

The photos I’ve attached are from just 2 weeks after a resident (not the butchers) thoroughly cleaned the area. Shockingly, this is not even as bad as it gets.

I write this in the hope that management takes this seriously and finally addresses these appalling conditions.

Bought 3 kilos of smelly beef

Bought 3 kilos of beef from the Woolwich store, took it home and straight into the fridge. Tried to prep it for cooking 2 days later, and only realised then that the meat was really smelly. I threw it out, took the receipt back to the store, and requested a refund. They insisted they would not give a refund unless the meat was returned! So i was forced to go back home, dive into my bin, and retrieve the smelly meat. When i returned to the store to collect my refund, i took a closer look at the meat in the display counters... lots of dark blotches and patches on all the meat. Looking at the other reviews from customers who had similar experiences at this company's stores all over London, it looks as if they're knowingly selling tainted meat, as a business model. The whole company should be closed down.

Rude and unprofessional CS

Rude and unprofessional CS. Misleading website which does not warn buyers that their delivery might happened at very usual time. Had a delivery due yesterday at my work place where we shut at 6pm at 6:30pm there was no sign of any delivery, my order were frozen meat (perishables). No option to collect at the depot only option is to change date of delivery. Now I will be delivered over £100 of unsafe food.

Bad, smelly meat- very disappointed

Me and my friend brought chicken meat from their shop in Southall. Lots of chicken legs, wings, giblets and minced meat as they were on offer. Thought I would marinate and freeze them but was shocked when I came home and tried to wash the meat as it was smelly and didn't look fresh at all. The meat looked soft and mushy and smelled awful, dissappointly I had to throw £50 meat in the bin as couldn't stand the bad smell and risk food poisoning. This is awful service as they are so famous and trusted meat suppliers. Can't believe they are selling such kind of bad meat. Would never ever go to their shops as our local butcher supplies fresh and wonderful meat every time. I would advise all public to check and smell the meat before they buy and would call the shop and complain about this as I had spend an awful lot of money.

Overpriced and poor quality.

I ordered 1Kg Goat on Deliveroo. It was mostly fat, which I had to remove myself (180 gms).

The meat itself was old and was extremely overpriced for what it is.

THM used to be good when it first opened. Now they've turned into a typical British retail scam, like the rest of them.

Serious Concerns About Halal Authenticity

I recently purchased chicken from Tariq Halal Ilford (Order date: 26th December 2024) and was deeply concerned about the quality and halal authenticity of the product. Despite the store’s claim of being halal-certified, I found that blood was still coming from the chicken even after thorough cleaning and marination.

As a practicing Muslim, I know that properly halal-slaughtered meat should not retain such a significant amount of blood. This raises serious doubts about whether your products are slaughtered according to proper halal standards as required by Islamic law.

The presence of excessive blood suggests either improper slaughtering methods or insufficient processing. Selling meat that does not meet halal standards is misleading and undermines the trust placed in your business by the Muslim community.

I have the receipt and pictures available for verification, which I can provide upon request.

I am also contacting the Halal Shariah Board, which has certified your business, to report this issue. I urge you to investigate your sourcing and slaughtering processes and provide more transparency to your customers.

Until this matter is addressed, I cannot recommend your store, and I will be avoiding future purchases. Please take this issue seriously and resolve it promptly.

Kind regards,
Sahil Vahora

I had a very disappointing experience…

I had a very disappointing experience with this meat shop. Every time I buy meat here, it turns out to be of poor quality. They often show one thing but give something else when packed. The prices are much higher compared to other shops in the area, but the quality doesn’t justify the cost. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone looking for good meat and honest service.
