I am a regular visitor to the ground…

I am a regular visitor to the ground floor cafe. Unfortunately over the last month or so I have noted the heating system is not working and the place is freezing. I would advise people not to visit the cafe until the heating system is fixed!

Initially extremely disappointed but once voiced staff did everyone rectify.

Whilst the views are amazing and the staff lovely I was appalled at the quality. 1. Terrible coffee only option milk. Frother wasn’t working on Boxing Day so not even a latte or a hot chocolate so only option is tea and that wasn’t an option. Tiny little afternoon tea for £39!! Absolute rip off. Don’t bother for the afternoon tea. Also, the stink of deep fat frying - which tells me their oil was stale and not changed regularly made all my clothes smell like a greasy fry up. This was on the ground floor and it still smelt up on the top. Bad organisation poor quality.

Update- all the staff have been excellent and did everything they could to rectify the situation. When they returned with our order after complaining - it was spot on. They turned a frustrating situation into a positive one. We were very happy with the afternoon tea after the change.

Do not waste your money or time!

We booked “High Tea in the Clouds” for a wedding anniversary treat. Booked online and even filled in the section to describe our special day. What a waste of money and time. Firstly, there is the procession of different (six) queues from the front desk to the two lift rides to the “tacky canteen” in the sky. Once there we were shown to a Formica table adorned with tacky plastic condiment sets. We waited for 15 mins for the wobbly cake stand to be delivered to the table with no explanation of what was on it. The cakes were dry and the finger sandwiches were non identifiable. You could have tea or pod coffee. Which arrived 15 mins after the cake stand. The decor of the canteen was falling off the walls. The hygiene was questionable with no tables being cleaned and stained trolley’s in open view. It was a disappointment, tacky and not worth the £40 per person they charged. The only brightness were the staff who tried hard. No acknowledgement of our special occasion, so why have it on the website. Not a great advert for Portsmouth or the UK.

The view was lovely but...

The view was lovely, the the high tea left a lot to be desired.
We had been gifted a high tea which we were really looking forward to.
We were booked for the 2pm slot. We got there in plenty of time as advised on the booking.
We waited until nearly 3pm before the food arrived and nearly everyone else was well through theirs.
I had ordered a vegetarian option and regular for my husband.
The vegetarian option consisted of bland cream cheese. My husband also had bland cream cheese and what was supposed to be coronation chicken, but minus any chicken.
The cakes were ok but nothing special. More like what you'd find at a kiddies party.
We won't be returning at these prices for what is served up.

Wonderful staff

The views and atmosphere was great but really wanted to say how kind and thoughtful the staff were to
My daughter who has a learning disability. She was offered a lift to herself to get to the top and she worries in confined spaces with crowds and staff could not have been more helpful. In particular a big thank you to Casey and Shane who were especially great. These acts of kindness and thoughtfulness make such a difference. Many thanks.

Give it a miss!

Expensive experience for not much in return.
Lift was fast, view from Level 1 was good. Roof garden at the top was two walls of plastic grass - that is NOT what I call a garden. Cafe on Level 2 was horrible - hot, no air conditioning, coffee ok but the most unpleasant tasteless lemon cake I have ever tried to eat. I felt sorry for those having a cream tea experience as the mini eclairs & cakes looked equally unpleasant.
Why would anyone want an all day ticket? Give yourself an hour tops but there are many other activities to do in Portsmouth, so put this at the bottom of your list.

We were looking forward to our visit…

We were looking forward to our visit had not been since 2019 how things had changed, we went to cafe in the clouds for a tea and cakes only to find table reserved ask if they had any which were not reserved and they found one for use.
so, we placed our order when it arrived no butter for our scones so ask for some which they supplied. (Had to pay extra £1 clotted cream)
while sitting their people were turning up, they sat on reserved tables and promptly told no table and had to go all the way down to café at bottom.
some staff very rude and just concerned in customers who had paid for high teas etc.
over all would not visit again, reading reviews I’m not surprise of the reaction in them

high tea in the clouds

We did the high tea in the clouds and it was awful! I've been to a fair few afternoon teas and this one was the worst, there was barely any filling in the sandwiches, and the bread was so stale, it was also absolutely freezing in there, the most basic afternoon tea and for the cost of it you would think a bit more effort would go into it! Thoroughly disappointed and would avoid if I was you.

Afternoon Tea not worth it.

This was a present from our sons. We has informed them that we we’re vegetarian. That is fine. When the tea arrived there two small sandwiches with cream cheese and cucumber plus two tiny rolls with mayonnaise and chives. When we questioned them they brought us another two small sandwiches with would you believe it with chopped tomatoes and onions. The experience was unbelievable. The scone was crumbly and impossible to spread jam on it. The macarons were fine but the cakes were dry.

Really terrible experience especially when we went with high hopes.

Terrible experience

Visited when it was 29c outside and there was no air conditioning inside. It was a greenhouse on steroids, shocking temperature inside, we stayed less than 30 mins and 20 of that was waiting for the lifts. Worse thing, no signs or warnings of heat inside and not a single member of staff gave an apology or explanation, it was a relief to get back outside to 29c worse bit was my daughter paid £60 for 4 tickets for this dreadful visit.

Nice experience

Really nice experience. You go into a high-speed lift, go 100m in the air, and step out into a beautiful scene. Friendly staff, interesting archetecture and a great view.

Great views. That's it

Great views, but that's are far as it goes. The Top cafe, with 'the views' you have to book the 'teas' 48 hours in advance. I didn't want a plastic cake. So we went to thier bottom floor cafe. No scenic views, Cheap table and seats, I wanted the eggs benedict, not available because it was after 12, (all the breakfast's available though). They were not busy at all, yet, I had to wait for my drinks and carry them myself. I feel the corporate accountants have taken over a lost opportunity here. Quality food and service wouldn't have gone a miss.
I did accidentally knocked over one of my drinks a new drink was made which was not charged for.

Clearly an evening event costing £1900…

Clearly an evening event costing £1900 + food, drinks and extra options etc was not enough for the staff to get out of bed for to follow up on. I requested details and received them via an email. I phoned for more information and the call was not returned. I physically went to the tower on the Sunday (knowing the relevant person may not be there to talk to however, hoped someone else may be able to help. All my details were taken down correctly and nothing actioned. No log of any missed calls from them and, should that be used as an excuse there were no emails to say they couldn't get hold of me. Should the job of events coordinator come up here I will indeed apply as it seems I can have week ends off, be paid, and not reply to the people who should be paying to keep the place operating. POOR SHOW! There is NO excuse for this
Oddly, after this review they have tried to contact me 3 times. Too little, too late! We chose a totally different venue however, the Concorde Club in Eastleigh Hampshire provided we think,a much better alternative and package.
