ai generated questions, no good books and overall terrible experience

By now this disgusting flesh amalgamation of an app should honestly take my entire soul and my flesh and my bones right off my body before it sends me to that war crime of a homework app.

From my past experiences within this VILE app theres nothing you can do.

very, very, very shit. selection of 3 pre-approved books per week to read and are flagged with sensitive content warnings for bringing up real world issues that the authors want to highlight. read two paragraphs and answer these three questions. sorry, you got one wrong and we won't tell you which one. now do it again. maybe if you get good you can actually read a book you want. no, no you cant. the gold pass point goal is way too high. you need to fill up a huge bar with points, then do it 4 more times to get a week, A SINGLE WEEK of being able to choose the books you want to read. this means you can only read one book that you are actually interested in. I think. BECAUSE EVEN AFTER 4 MONTHS OF THIS INFERNAL SITE I HAVENT EVEN GOT TO 3 FULL BARS YET. and I have not even been remotely interested in the offered books, for context I am 16 and have recently finished the book "The Three Body Problem" and the 9 book long space opera novel series "The Expanse", both of which I would recommend. So it makes intuitive sense that I do not want to read some shitty detective story. "oh but you can narrow down your options." SHUT. you can recommend it genres that you like that will be more likely to show up. so, I selected sci-fi as a recommended genre and have not seen a single sci-fi book shown to me in the following months.

To conclude: this infernal website that was summoned from the deepest depths of hell by a satanic ritual makes me want to move to the Ural mountains and become a hermit. well, this website and other things.

This is honestly the worst homework website ive ever used. I straight up REFUSE to do it yet the school gives me 2 hours after school for not doing this crap... every time I try to do it i start crying. The books are boring and gold pass is basically impossible.It takes way too long to complete.... i also have a life outside of scjool i dont have 1- 2 hours a week to do this....I hate this with my entire soul. I hope this website gets banned...

If I could give no stars, I would. This is the most pointless and mind numbing app I have ever encountered masquerading as educational. I loathe this app with a passion and think it sums up everything that is wrong with education today. I have been told that this app is now the only way a school has to assess the reading age of my child and as they refuse to use it, they can't assess their ability. As they are voraciously and regularly reading a variety of real books above their actual age I have no concerns and refuse to participate in another erosion of books by stealth. No adjustments possible within the app for neurodiversity and a beyond poor selection of texts.

Does not help a single bit in English or Reading, their are unspeakable things I want to do when doing this, just shut it down at this point please, cure child depression.

This app is deeply disappointing and potentially harmful for children. It can discourage them from reading altogether and feels like a complete waste of time. It appears designed in a way that frustrates and demotivates, rather than supports learning. Schools should think carefully before introducing it to children without properly testing and evaluating its impact.

The company can't even make one good website; Sparx maths, Sparx science, Sparx reading are all awful at what they are made to do.

I love reading ... until are school gave us THIS!! Listen I would read for ages a night UNTIL THEY MADE ME it is annoying and if your a fast reader WELL TO BAD they will make you wait and if you try they will give you 1 point! I'm fed up of this

I know there are a lot of other 1 star reviews, but as a student myself, I can say that they are completely right. When I was younger, I used to thoroughly enjoy reading, having a large collection of books. However, once sparx reader was introduced to me and my school, I wont touch a book with a long stick. This app asks questions about what you've just read, and works on a point system. It asks you small details that are irrelevant to the actual story, making you unable to immerse yourself and actually enjoy the book. Get it wrong? You get less points for all the other questions. Which is where 30 minutes of reading can easily landslide into 5 hours. This app punishes students for getting things wrong rather than helping and encouraging them. It has genuinely not helped me, and I simply refuse to do it now.

I’m honestly baffled at how a single Sparx Reader book manages to swallow hours of my life like it’s nothing. I sit down thinking, “Cool, quick read, get it done,” and suddenly the sun has set, my evening is gone, and I’m still stuck answering endless questions that feel like they’re multiplying behind my back.

The reading itself is fine — but the constant stop‑start, the quizzes, the checkpoints, the “go back and check this again” moments… it turns a simple book into a full‑blown endurance test. It shouldn’t take me longer to finish a Sparx Reader assignment than it does to finish an ACTUAL book.

I get that it’s meant to help, but at some point it stops being learning and starts being punishment. Please, for the love of everyone’s sanity, make the tasks shorter or at least less repetitive. No student should need half a day just to complete one reading task.

Utterly horrific website. I walked in to find my child on a heap on the floor in distress because of the amount of stress this website was giving them. They tried for 1.5 hours to do their "short homework" and kept being made to repeat because they got 3/4 on the quiz. My child is alright now thankfully. We did refer them to the school councillor buy they were away. Have emailed the company and they replied with a nonsensical reply thet could well have been written by ai. Schools please stop using this website.

This website would not read out my homework, I am a dislexy individual who finds it very hard to read and the fonts and overlays would not help at all , horrible website would not recommend to anyone .
