I found Sparrow through a different rental site when browsing for an affordable place to move to in a short amount of time.

The communication and coordination from the person handling the administration between me (the boarder) and the host was great. The follow-up whenever I asked a question was a particular standout.

I like that you get some tenant coverage and paying the fees is straightforward. On the site itself, I like the way it displays the helpful information with the smaller icons in clear easy-to-understand points.

The one thing I don't like is the matching system. The room I found on Sparrow kept saying I wasn't a match, even though I had reached out, checked the place myself and talked with the host in-person. They wanted me to use the Sparrow system to apply once I said I was interested. I thought the room was great. But the fact that they just don't let you apply at all if they think you "don't match" is very frustrating. Thankfully, I mentioned this to the coordinator and they helped me get applied to the place.

All the actual matches did not seem like good fits to me, though I didn't check out any of the others in-person. I just wish the matching system was more of like a suggestion than an override. Some things may not necessarily be "matches" but are open to interpretation, like when it comes to pets. (I have a small aquarium, which some non-pet places allow - but I talk to the people directly when checking out a place.)

Overall, I think the site is really helpful for finding lower cost places to live in exchange for having to share kitchens, laundry rooms and sometimes bathrooms. I think the service I received was generally wonderful. It's just the process to apply was such a pain because it refused to let me apply to a place I saw in person and thought was a great fit.
