Avoid Spa Medica

Had 1st cateract done 16/1/26 2nd was told other eye would be 6 weeks later by Spa Medica.
17/4/26 (12 weeks) still waiting and having significant problems as there is such a huge difference between my eyes that glasses are not possible to allow "normal" vision.
Regret ever trusting Spa Medica and wish I'd just bought new glasses

Had the op 2 yes ago on both eyes

Had the op 2 yes ago on both eyes , it lasted 2 yrs before the right eye started clouding over , Followed by the left eye , this time I had the pre op and elderly woman said look at the screen , I said I can't see it , the test starts with the large letter first I said I can't see it but she just carried on after the tests I then asked the 30 something on the front desk how long before the op , all she said was I don't have any listings , at that point I gave up .

I'm 78 live alone stopped driving , but had to use my mobility scooter to get some food , with no periteral vision I hit a set of concrete steps damaging my scooter .
Today phoned up to see when I would get the op and told 5 th of June so more months .
When phoning your meter with a robot who keeps telling you , you can go on line , The fact that you can't see a screen does not come into it , your then told to get a call back , problem is you waited for 10 + minutes for anybody to answer the phone and if nobody is there to answer the phone who is going to call you back .
I asked a out transport but was told 8 would have to go onto a list , I declined that one as she said you did not have transport before .
There was also problems with finding out about my second referral , first time I called I was told they don't have it so I had to check with Specsavers they said that had , then checked with the doctor they said they sent it on , they seem to have admin problems .
This time I asked if they got it and it was another long wait on the phone before they said oh yes we have it . I asked for a date for the op on on my left eye but was told I would have to wait until my right eye op had been done , so although they have all of the tests anyway they would not give a date for that one .
It would seem there are a lot of people who had the op but it did not last and they had to go back for another op .
Over all taking into account I can't read my mail or a watch or a screen without a magnifying glass and can't drive or use my scooter I was expecting them to be more helpful about dates and transport , So now hoping they don't cancell my o
Coming op in June as they do seem to do last minute cancellations .
As is I will keep taking my letters down town for the citizens advice to read for me !
If there are any mistakes it's because I can't see without using a magnifying glass .

I had Cataract surgery over a year ago at SpaMedica Manchester. All went well and staff were all excellent ! However , occasionally, ‘ frosting ‘ takes place around the new lense , and requires YAG Laser treatment . This was done this week at the SpaMedica Clinic in Sale . Again , friendly helpful staff , particularly the Laser Operator, who managed to return my sight to what it should be !

Poor appointments system - but I received a call.

I have yet to have the pleasure of visiting SpaMedica despite the recommendation from Vision Express. My right eye is below DVLA limit. I was referred to SpaM for cataract surgery in late January, and given an appointment for 6th March. Returning from France on 5th March for that appointment in Cambridge I got a message to say that it was cancelled and a new appointment set for 14th April, 5+ weeks later! After calling three times and narrowly missing a chance for 2nd April (it was taken by someone else online at the same moment), I was finally given on 18th March an appointment for 10th April but in Wembley, to which I must travel. Why is there not a priority list for those like me whose appointments are cancelled at short notice? Better still, a call-back service to make us feel more wanted? UPDATE - I did receive a call on Tuesday 24 March from Sheila P in Cambridge with an appointment for 31 March. I've added a star pending this welcome event.

Fully recommend for cataract surgery

From assessment to discharge after cataract surgery, Spa Medica Coventry staff were very efficient and caring. Being somewhat apprehensive about the surgery, having very sensitive eyes, I felt hardly anything in my eye and my fear of seeing the surgeon's actions etc with my good eye were fully allayed. I couldn't see anything! The surgeon's chat with me before surgery was very useful and excellent.

I've had my surgery over a year ago

I've had my surgery over a year ago. From the start I had problems. Infection, blurriness. I've seen them but they always have a good reason and who am I to disagree. Since then I've had difficulty seeing specially towards dawn. My eyes gets very tired and everything blurryThat was to correct my nearsightedness. Wearing varyfocal glasses and now I can barely read or see this message I am writing. I have my yearly appointment with my optometrist today wish me luck my eye haven't deteriorated within a year
. To be honest I wished I never had it done.

My fears were unwarranted from the start

Having following my wife who had both eyes done two years ago I was still very apprehensive but my fears were unfounded as from the start in reception to my discharge everything was of the highest standard with each stage of my procedure explained with friendly staff. It was only three days ago that I had my cataract surgery but I alrady see a difference in my vision. Thank you to all the staff at Spa Mecica Preston.

I was very impressed when my first eye…

I was very impressed when my first eye was done. However when my second eye was done 3 months later I was less impressed.
It was obviously a busy day with 25 operations but I felt rushed and there was a distinct conveyor belt feeling. Certainly the staff were much less friendly and caring. Their job was get you in and out of the door as quickly as possible, no tea or coffee this time just a glass of water if you want it.
No follow up in 4 weeks this time just phone your optician on Monday and make an appointment with them in 4 to 6 weeks.
Unlikely I would recommend to family or friends.
I should add that the eye has given a lot of discomfort ever since and is far from healed.

Left eye cataract removal procedure…

Had a cataract removal procedure carried out at the SpaMedica hospital in Wokingham on Friday 27/02/26, and what a pleasant experience it turned out to be, it was the complete opposite to what I had been expecting, all the staff were professional people, very friendly, and treated me with respect, and the surgeon who operated was very experienced, so I didn't receive any pain throughout the cataract removal, in fact it was fairly comfortable at all times during, and I would certainly recommend SpaMedca to anyone who may require their services in the future.

Lens clouded over

Lens clouded over, had to wait 3 months for 1st appointment which has been cancelled due to being an NHS patient and told it will be another 2 months b4 we can get another appointment, bearing in mind my dad is a full time carer for my mum, I think 5 months of not being able to see clearly is unacceptable.

Impressive!

Yesterday I attended the Bedford Branch for a Cataracts Assessment.

I was impressed by the friendliness and
efficiency of every staff member I came
across - from the Receptionist who gave
me Directions (when my phone had no
signals), to the Practitioners (Admin &
Medical).

Not least, when my cab was late arriving,
two employees insisted on my waiting
inside, past Closing Time!

Huge thanks ‘everyone’, for being made to feel comfortable throughout!

Excellent and efficient

I had cataract operation on both my eyes at Wokingham branch in 2023 and recently one of eyes was burly, went to my Costco optometrist and she told me I needed yag surgery as it was cloudy. Within days of referral I got my first appointment and yag was done two weeks later. But here’s the amazing thing about yag surgery, upon arriving nurse put drops in eye , 20 mins later I got call to another room , I thought I was having my eye examined and within a minute I was told it’s done and my sight should improve with few hrs and it has.
Wow such efficiency and the staff on all occasions were amazing, friendly. A big Thank for restoring my sight to normal

I had Yag laser treatment at SPA MEDICA PRESTON ON 13th AUGUST 2025. Preparation was drops in eye. Little uncomfortable for few seconds, this to dilate the eye. Approximately 20-30 minutes later I had the laser treatment. NO Pain at all, just look at a light. All you see is lots of coloured lights. You can here few clicks . Really nice actually. Within minutes all done and finished and left. A big thank you to Spa Medica.

I first went to SpaMedica in Borden…Bright Eyes

I first went to SpaMedica in Borden Sittingbourne near where I live. Had all my checks done there but then told as my cataracts were complex I’d be referred to Colchester or Chelmsford. My first right eye was done in Colchester 30th May 2nd left eye 18th July Chelmsford. Free transport was provided for both and I could also be accompanied by my cousin. All times I was made to feel relaxed and comfortable all the staff were absolutely brilliant. I’d like to say a big Thank you to Mr Dogramaci who performed both Cataract surgeries. Also Thank you to all staff included in my care past and present. I truly recommend SpaMedica I really couldn’t fault them. Last but not least I’m very pleased with my distance vision I didn’t realise my eyes had got so bad.

I attended Spa Medica Bolton for an assessment, from the moment you stepped into reception the staff made you very welcome .
The process was very through and at each stage you were well looked after.
On the day of the surgery again the staff looked after you and put you at ease .
The surgeon explained every stage of the procedure.
I would highly recommend Spa Medica Bolton

I stand by everything I wrote following…

I stand by everything I wrote following cataract surgery last year at the Truro clinic where I couldn't fault anything, superb treatment throughout.
However, just recently have had problems with deteriorating sight in my right eye. Obviously my first port of call was the Spa medical help line for advice. The person who dealt with the call after taking my details very quickly and abruptly replied as the surgery was more than 6 months ago there was nothing he could do and said go back to your optician. This I did to be told I had PCO in my right eye that needed YAG laser treatment. I was then advised by the optician that she had to refer it to my GP surgery for them to send a request to Spa for examination and treatment. Basically starting from square one.
Surely once an optician had identified a problem from cataract surgery there would be an easier route than starting from scratch and hoping for an appointment sooner rather than later.

As an NHS patient The speed and efficiency of the appointments, was astonishing, I had cataract surgery on both eyes at the Preston clinic. From referral by my optician the preop. was carried out within days and the first eye surgery two working days later the second eye five weeks later. The staff were all helpful and reassuring. The appointments were on time as planned. Excellent service
