Fantastic book, lucky enough to have seen Rob and all the other legends ride at many famous circuits, especially Namur. A must read for anyone into MX during the 80/90s.

brilliant book to read and all from the times I was heavily involved in motocross...

Great book and represents a real insight of a great career when motocross was in its golden period. Some great pictures of many of the days top riders including Rob. The book is a real must for any motocross fan, particularly those who followed the sport through the 80’s.

Considering this was ordered over the Christmas break, our parcel was delivered with full tracking update in a speedy manner with good packaging.

Gave a true story about what happened in the golden times of 500 cc Motocross in the 80s.

Magnificent edition, interesting and enjoyable narration, very well structured chapters mixing the chronicle with lot of aspects from the paddock and backstage, as well as daily work of professional motocross riders. A top read not only for motocross fans of the '80s but for whoever wants to better understand this rude, brutal but stil incredibly esthetic, motorsport.

P.S: Spanish edition would be a success! Motocross interest consistently increasing in LATAM

A beautiful book
If like me, you’re a member of most motocross pages on social media, surely you can’t help but have noticed “The Inside Line - Racing the 500cc world championship” by Rob Andrews.

Reading it really made me appreciate how much effort was needed to ride the championship. Success back then was difficult to achieve when you think who Rob was bar to bar with waiting for the gate to drop. How many world champions in that pack of 40?

His writing style drew me in and put me on my fantasy starting line - the closest my inner childhood self could get me to being in the mix. It wasn’t all glamour either. Hard work sometimes rewarded only disappointment with machinery, funding and colleagues. However, it wasn’t all bad. How about having your best season in 1986, considered to be THE best year in 500cc Motocross and earning a factory ride. I think there were cruel twists of fate that deprived greater success rather than his ability.

The Inside Line is £40 plus postage. That gets you a seriously high quality book. Go into any high street book shop and maybe you won’t find many books with this price tag. But as Mr Royce said of his cars, “The quality remains long after the price is forgotten”. The book is 400 litho printed pages on silk art paper. This wouldn’t have meant much to me before, but think of the photographs section in the middle a typical biography. That’s the feel and quality throughout the entire book. Whilst we’re saving on what we’d spend on a meal out at the moment or a day on the track, this book is value for money. I’m glad he’s opted to go all out on a premium book.

We’re given almost 400 quality photos (in a 400 page book - some ratio) some by top photographers including Ray Archer, Jack Burnicle, Ray Mayes and more including some gems from his late father Ron. Even the occasional family album photo is welcome and tells more than a thousand words. There’s no reading about a part of his career or memory and having to wait a hundred pages to see a correlating photo.

Of all the motocross books I own, there’s nothing like this. A must have in any motocross enthusiasts collection. It’s a pleasure to own.

Awesome book,well written. I felt Rob really explained what it was like to be a professional motocross racer in Europe. Would highly recommend it.

As A rider mechanic commentator event organiser and award winning motorcycle restorer and having a long involvement in club motocross and organisation with my Family.I think I am fairly well qualified to comment on Rob Andrews excellent Book the Inside Line an account of his life and commitments ,in what it took and what it gave back to him in the pursuit of success in what is one of the hardest sports. Not everyone wins a world title but without riders like Rob Andrews one of a number hardmen who fought at top level there would never be any world champions . This for me is the best publication ever written on the sport of motocross at a time when it had reached it's zenith.Rob Andrews was a true proffesional in every sense of that phrase and it will become very clear to anyone who loves this sport once they turn the pages of this masterpiece.Robbie Savill AWCB.
