Avoid like the plague! Withdrew mortgage offer at 11th hour!

Mortgage offer withdrawn days before current deal expires, leaving me scrambling for a new (worse) deal. No reason given and Principality won't discuss with me, my broker, or my solicitors.

Principality have had my deal agreed for over a month and none of my circumstances have changed. To withdraw with days left on the current term is disgraceful and I've found out that I'm not the only one that's experienced this problem.

Avoid this society unless you want to risk the rug pulled from beneath you.

Hello
Thank you for your review, we would usually give you a reason why we have withdrawn a product and I would suggest to go back to your broker as they should be able to discuss this with you.
I cannot look into this any further for you as i do not have your details.

Inaccessible account

Opened an online account early January . Received activation code but couldn’t enter as password not accepted. Managed to change to a new password and reached the activation page - the code was not accepted . Phoned customer services - really helpful but told me a new code had been issued for some reason - I had not requested a new code - puzzling . I was told to request a new code but no facility to do so on the page . Doesn’t inspire confidence .

Top Customer Service

I have to say, Principality Building Society have amongst the most friendly and helpful customer services of any organisation (financial or other) that I've dealt with. They also answer the phone without delays, or the dreaded 'we're experiencing a higher than usual number of calls', your call is important to us' etc..... (like we believe that - what you're really saying is we don't employ enough staff - tough titty)!

Both my wife and I have several savings accounts (and have had different ones in the past) with Principality, all of which have been easy to set up and manage, and where we have had a question etc. (only a couple of times), they were quickly, efficiently, and pleasantly answered.

Awful dangerous company.

Awful system.
I just remortgage with this company. Poor communication, you have to wait 10 min before somebody answer the phone call after 10 min taking to adviser who doesn’t know what’s going on and telling you he will be call you back but newer calling you back. Very poor solicitor cooperating with Principality. Poor communication and making a lot of mistakes.
Conclusion: If you have another choice - used. Don’t take Principality.

Awful system, almost non-existent customer service, DONT BOTHER

JUST READING THROUGH OTHER REVIEWS AND IT SEEMS LOTS OF PEOPLE ARE SUFFERING THE SAME ISSUES!! One reviewer mentioned how wonderful their app is - clearly a "paid" review as they don't have an app. Why would a company be paying for reviews?????

Absolutely dire! Opened a savings account with them a few months ago, they don't have an app so you have to login via their website (get with the times - whoever it responsible for customer and IT systems, needs sacking!).

So I play the game, register to access my account - within days they are telling me my password is incorrect. I know my password, thank you. Can't login with it, get account blocked. Call them, on the rare occasion they're open, they don't bother to answer the phone

A fee weeks pass by, eventually get through to someone, relatively helpful (I imagine I would be given how few hours they have their phones on for). She resets my account so I can access it again.

I try to reset the password, "can't use the same password as that previously used"... So I have to select a different one. What this means is the password saved in my browser/made a not of, was the correct password, but the system wasn't letting me use it. ORGANISATIONS DO THIS WHEN THEY HAVE BEEN HACKED.

So I create my new password, thinking it's just a blip, off I go. At the time, it asks me to create some stupid security questions, I mean "first concert" assuming everyone has been to a concert just because they sponsor the millennium stadium - grow up. So I create the answers as requested, and think nothing of it.

Eventually receive a code through via mail to access my account, so go to login - password incorrect AGAIN! Only try twice because I know it's going to lock my account and I'll never be able to get hold of them via telephone to unlock it.

Do a password reset whilst my account is still active - they send me the OTP via text which is the usual security measure for most banks - no not good enough, now have to answer the stupid security questions, ALL of them, not just one or two. So I pop the answers in, pretty straightforward, and hey presto account locked.

So they have £600 of my money and I am not unable to access it until they bother to answer the phones.

Ah this point, I don't give a damn about interest, they can shove it wherever feels good for them, I just want my money out and to be gone. Uncontactable over the festive period, not looking forward to trying to get a hold of them again.

If you like customer services and service that are modern and actually work, then DONT USE PRINCIPALITY. Additionally, the password constantly being changed indicates they have likely been subject to cyber attacks and unable to mitigate it, or worse they HAVE BEEN HACKED AND LEAKED PERSONAL DETAILS INCLUDING PASSWORDS. That's the only reason why companies mass reset batches of password.

So far so good

So far so good. Good interest rates. When I have called, they have answered quickly and were polite and knowledgeable. They have processed forms I sent them quickly. The Website seems fine and you get an opportunity to give feedback each time, and it feels like they are trying to respond to customer feedback. So far no complaints and I am quite impressed

Maturity instructions not honoured and expected to start all over again

My mother's fixed one year savings account is due to mature and her instructions were sent off first class post in plenty of time. However interest rate changed in that small time window which has never occurred before so her instructions weren't honoured. Instead of starting again with the form which will be delayed in the Christmas post, she should have automatically been given the slightly lower interest alternative to prevent her funds going into an instant access account which I presume they will now as the next form will be received just before New Year

Great way to save. Easy to use online app.

I opened a regular saver account online a couple of years ago which matured November 2023. A really good interest rate with it, so a nice lump sum in time for Christmas. I was given the option to reinvest a small amount and start the process again when it had matured which I did. I decided to do the same again this year now that this year's one has matured. I also took out a 6 month saver bond which matures on Christmas day and have chosen the option to reinvest a small amount and continue to save for another 6 months. The interest rates on both accounts are very good.
I do it all online. It was very easy to set up. I would highly recommend. I can't find a better interest rate anywhere else on these sort of accounts.

Principality in Wales stole my daughters money!

My daughter opened an ISA. She sent in her ID and all was accepted. They transfered her existing ISA and then denied her access to the money. Its not even showing on her new ISA account and its no longer in the previous providers account. Principality are now demanding more evidence that she lives at the address but she doesnt have bills or anything in her name as she has always lived with me. She is absolutely distraught because as a single mum myself I saved and her grandparents saved to get her a nest egg for a deposit for her first home. She is a single mum with a baby and is living with me to save more funds so nothing is in her name and they wont let her access to the money and they wont send it back. Im at a loss and going t have to pay to get some legal advice. Stay away from them - they are absolutely corrupt

Terrible - no stars!

Terrible. Avoid at all costs - Shrewsbury Branch - I travelled quite a distance to be told I couldn't transfer my money into an account - and why hadn't I filled in a form - told off - I need to make an appointment and yet they had sent me a letter telling me to reinvest my money. I asked for a cheque for my money and went to invest with West Brom. I have a few accounts with Principality they seem to forget they work for the customer and I for one will be looking elsewhere.

So far so good...

So far so good...
Account opened easily enough, and got set up for a regular payment - through the website rather than having to copy details to my banking app.
It would be nice to have an app too, as I keep all my banking in one group, but not a game changer.

Great Interest Rates

Opened three accounts online in the last two weeks. Everything was straightforward with no problems. I did try opening on line back in October but for some reason site kept saying error towards end of application. Have also telephoned a couple of times with some queries and got excellent service. Great interest rates.

Poor Website

I am an existing customer. I have tried to open an ISA on the website several times over recent days, but when I get to close to the end of the application, the website keeps saying something has gone wrong. Made contact with call centre, but I either have to open it by post ( so now have to wait for a postal pack ) or try again on website. Interestingly the advisor on the call centre, said they hadn't had any complaints about opening accounts online, however, have read one on one of these reviews.Tried again 4 times tonight to open account on website , trying on two seperate devices, keep getting the same message, once I have logged into my account. Rubbish.

So far, so good

I have recently opened 3 Regular Saver accounts paying interest of 8%, 7%(Christmas 2025 Saver account) and the one paying 5.15% p.a. The interest on the 1st one is fixed for 6 months and the last 2 are fixed for 1 year. All the accounts are online and the opening process was straightforward, though, waiting for OTP every time you have to log in to the system is little antiquated. But still no fuss about it.
Today I opened another variable interest paying account. Here I need to nominate a bank for me to withdraw the money if I need to before it matures. Now I note that they were unable to authorise this Santander account and asking for bank statement, which is fine, but I couldn't provide this thru online account it seems and I need to call someone on this as I live miles and miles away from Wales. Not sure how this communication will go and worried after seeing the reviews here. I am not yet clear why they are unable to authorise Santander as my linked account when all the funds into the 4 accounts with them have been funded from the same Santander account. This is really yet again antiquated thing.

Unsatisfactory technology

Opened an account in May. Went online yesterday and the system told me I had no investments with them. This obviously got me worried but as it was the weekend I could not call anyone. It seems they had some sort of IT meltdown as later that evening I could not even log in. I tried again this morning and my money is showing up again. Having read other reviews, it seems they are not very good with modern technology.
Also, they have no app, which is much, much more convenient than a website anyway as it allows you to use biometrics to access your account. However, as they can't successfully organise an error-free website, (based on my experience and reading other reviews), I doubt they could master an app.

Well worth doing with competitive interest rates!

After reading several reviews I was feeling a little put off, but I thought I would try as the Cash ISA rate is very competitive.
I registered online, taking note you have 10 mins to complete. Done without a problem. The one time pass code arrived in the post 2 days later to enable me to activate my online account. Also done without a problem.
The transfer process was very quick, no problems and my account is now funded. All completed in 5 days.
Very happy, no technical online issues, very fast and efficient. My husband has now done the same and no problem there either.
