Disgusting service at Darlington main…

The customer service at Darlington main post office is disgusting. I needed to show proof of identity, as instructed by HMRC. Went on Thursday 7th. May upon arrival at least 20 people waiting some had been waiting over 35 minutes.only one person on the counter WHY?
So I decided to go next day Friday got there 12-15, 15 people in the queue one person on the desk WHY? In 25 minutes 4 people had been seen to. Then the lady came out and said it is closing at 12-45 come back at 1-15. People had been standing now for 40+ minutes. Absolutely disgusting service.
So went back Saturday morning to verify my id 5 people in front I was very happy until I got to the one person on the counter. Where I was informed I had to make an appointment for them to look at my driving licence and look at me and say hey that is you, it is a rule that is made by Darlington post office there is no way of finding out you have to make an appointment until you talk to that ONE person at the desk. So now I have to go next Saturday at 11-30 for an appointment and believe it or not I have to stand in the Queue for how long it take and when you get to the window tell them you have an appointment at 11-30 but it could be 2 o’clock UNBELIEVABLE

Extremely frustrating and misleading…Travel Insurance

Extremely frustrating and misleading experience with Post Office Travel Insurance.

I purchased an annual family travel insurance policy after being redirected from Compare the Market to the official Post Office Travel Insurance website. During the sales process, the website prominently advertised that children under 18 are included free on family policies.

I relied on that representation when choosing the policy.

Only later, during renewal, was I informed that this benefit supposedly does NOT apply to policies originating from comparison websites. Despite multiple exchanges with their complaints team, they have still been unable to point me toward any clear wording in:

the policy documents,
the IPID,
the renewal paperwork,
or the purchasing journey itself,

that explicitly states this exclusion.

Instead, the response has effectively been:
“comparison-site policies may differ.”

That is not the same as clearly disclosing that a prominently advertised family benefit does not apply.

The most frustrating part is that the complaint was raised BEFORE the policy expired, yet the delays in handling the complaint have now conveniently resulted in them saying the policy can no longer be renewed because it has expired.

The entire process has felt like a game of moving goalposts:

advertise a benefit,
allow the customer to rely upon it,
then later argue it was never included because of an undisclosed comparison-site exclusion.

Consumers should be extremely careful and should insist on written clarification of every advertised feature if purchasing through a comparison website, because Post Office appears willing to rely on distinctions that are not clearly disclosed during the purchasing process.

Very disappointing experience and an exhausting complaints process.

An act of kindness!

Hello, I went to this Post Office today to return an item, I’d not checked the closing time, but, thought I’d check the sweets/tobacco section, there was a young man there who straightaway said he’d process my return!

This has restored my faith in humanity!

So, sorry, I didn’t ask his name, but, thank you very much again!

Sharp practice at the Post Office counter

At the Post Office counter, I asked for a small letter signed for second class letter service at £2.91 for a letter to be sent. The assistant could clearly see that it was a small letter as the DL white envelope only measured 22 x 11cm. The assistant asked me if the contents were valuable and if I would like a more expensive option. I clearly stated that the envelope only contained 2 x A4 sheets of paper for an enquiry letter and that I would not like a more expensive option. Despite this and the fact that the letter was thin and easily passed the thickness test on the template, the counter assistant charged me for a Tracked 48 £3.30 large letter at a weight of 0.025 kg (as the letter was weighed) instead of the signed for second class small letter option at £2.91. There was another item posted with this letter and I only noticed this when I left the Post Office. Please beware of this sharp and sly practice at the Basildon, 29 Town Square Post Office SS14 1BA. To make matters worse, this item is still stuck at Romford sorting office as of 07/05/2026. Please check your receipt whilst still at the counter before you leave the counter and then you can ask the assistant to correct any overcharging errors. The above mentioned letter neither needed to be sent by the Tracked 48 service nor was a large letter in any way shape or form. There's no excuse for the assistant charging for a Tracked 48 large letter other than profiteering.

Customer services

Went to the post office on Old Kent Road SE1 in the late afternoon, I had to pay my council tax bill for the month. The post office was packed full until the queue was outside the building. My turn arrived so I could be served at the counter. The cashier tried to short change me the change from the council tax bill. She claimed she gave me the change but clearly didn't. I had to wait a while for it to be sorted out on the same day. I wouldn't move from the counter. She says I tried to confuse her no way you never gave me the change, I told her in the end after the cashier battle I got my change. How could you lie and think you would get away with it. I will not be using that post office ever again. The women cashier is rude and cannot concentrate on her job. I suggest she goes and do a customer service course and learn how to communicate with customers effectively.

West Nile Street, Glasgow

I visited West Nile Street branch in Glasgow today and was appalled by how bad it was. Only 3 staff, 2 of whom were mostly chatting to each another and the one who was doing something did her best with queues of 20+ people. Maybe they’re offering too many services and spreading themselves way too thin.
I will avoid it if possible and urge others to do the same unless they’ve already lost the will to live

Appalling!

Appalling!
Had to complain about the rude, noisy and destructive postman.
He is still all these things.
The post office did offer compensation for ruined vintage book he rolled up and jammed through the door.
Still waiting.

This is the best Post Office in…

This is the best Post Office in Darlington. This morning the girls that assisted me, Donna and Sarah, couldn't have been more helpful. It was early morning and they were very happy and courteous. Each time I have been in the store all the girls there have been extremely pleasant and make the start of my day a very happy one. Donna and Sarah are full of smiles and pleasantries something that is lacking today in many other stores. Even starting at 6am the staff in this store are amazing. Thank you girls, you made an old lady very happy this morning. I am truly grateful for your assistance.

Incorrect and misleading information, lost letters, couldn’t care less attitude about sums up the post office. They are not fit for purpose. There should be an investigation into their abysmal service as what they are doing is far far from good

We took out travel insurance with the post office. We paid for premium cover and added air disruption cover.
We had our flights cancelled due to the conflict in the middle east. Only to be told by a delighted post office agent that we are not protected.
Awful company don't use them.

Millhouses Post Office Man is brilliant

My local post office man in Millhouses, Sheffield is worthy of praise. Nothing is too much trouble for him and as a non tech person I’ve often needed his help. It’s always ‘no problem’ so I just wanted to thank him officially on here.
