Paypal horror show?

After having updated my credit card's expiry date and removing a second phone number which I had added long before as a possible alternative phone number for receival of the six digits safety sms codes, soon after, switching with logging in a few times between my handy and desktop,
I could no longer enter my account. Couldn't make a new password either because on an almost blank page stood the message (again and again) that I could not be verified as a user. Today, almost a week and three helpdesk calls further the problem has not been solved and the third friendly customer service employee who called me back today on appointment and who promised to contact me today again, did not call anymore.
So I can not reach my blocked account with a valid creditcard and a link to my bank account, which feels extremely unsafe. If I could give zero stars hero, that would be what I'd do.
And ... I asked for an Ebay refund which was promised me by the seller, a refund I requested for just before my account had been blocked, but will I ever see that money back??? Since it will run via ... Paypal.
Also bad service when calling: outdated creepy computer voices. First you follow a menu, then, after several menu choices the computer voice tells you 'customer service is closed now'
Horrible, just horrible.
Who the .... run this company?
And how is it being run?
Incredibly bad, it seems to me.

The worst Customer service experience ever

I swear I have never, and I mean never, had a worse experience with customer support.

Don't get me wrong, I’ve been using PayPal for more than 10 years smoothly, but this was the first time I actually needed to contact customer service because I had an issue.

Long story short, I wanted to activate the Pay in 6 Months option because I needed to book an expensive flight. To do that, I had to verify my identity and address. The instructions told me to go to the PayPal website, but guess what? It was impossible to find the page where I was supposed to verify my identity. The error message said they would send me an email or notification with further instructions. I never received anything.

Then I remembered that the Pool Money feature requires identity verification, so I uploaded my documents there instead. The website states that documents are reviewed within 2–3 business days. I uploaded my bank statement on Friday, July 10, and today is July 16. My documents are still under review. Even excluding the weekend, that's already 4 business days.

I tried contacting customer support multiple times through the chat, but the agents only gave vague, generic responses. Even worse, if you spend more than about a minute typing a detailed message, the chat automatically closes. Seriously? If I'm explaining a complex issue, shouldn't I be allowed enough time to type it?

At that point, I tried calling the Italian customer support number. After waiting to be connected to an agent, the call was simply disconnected. This happened twice, at two different times of the day.

I understand that it's summer and demand may be higher, but PayPal is a financial service. When customers need support, support should actually be available.

To this day, the Pay in 6 Months option still doesn't work for me, and I have no idea why. I ended up using the Pay in 3 Months option instead, which is fine, but don't advertise a service if you're unable to provide it or help customers activate it. All it does is create frustration and waste people's time.

A nightmare for freelancers—accounts locked by bots and funds held hostage

If you are a freelance designer, digital artist, or creator, stay as far away from PayPal as possible. They will shut your business down overnight with absolutely zero warning, explanation, or human review.

My account was permanently limited out of nowhere. The absolute worst part? 100% of my funds come directly from verified, official payouts from major corporate platforms—specifically Fiverr and Creative Fabrica. I do not deal with random individual buyers. This means there is mathematically zero percent chance of a customer dispute or chargeback on my account.

Despite this, PayPal is holding my hard-earned money hostage under their standard "180-day security hold." This hold is supposed to protect against disputes, but since my funds are finalized corporate payouts, they are keeping my legitimate livelihood locked up for 6 months for absolutely no logical reason.

Their customer support is entirely useless. You will get trapped in a loop of copy-paste robotic answers from chat agents and automated emails saying "the decision is final" without any human actually looking at your invoices or store dashboards.

They do not care about the independent creators who keep their platform running. I am moving my entire business payouts over to Payoneer and other alternatives immediately. Do not trust PayPal with your hard-earned income.

Signed up for a Apple subscription…

Signed up for a Apple subscription through PayPal, the price went from $14.75 yearly too $65 yearly, the subscription I signed up for was way lower , PayPal sided with seller, I will make it my mission to warn people do not do any auto renewal or pay from anything through PayPal, I see why eBay split with them, you will have 0 and I mean 0 customer fraud liability protection. I will text this message to every review site possible, I will also cut up my 4 PayPal credit cards.

Paypal is Permanently Limiting Accounts

Paypal decided to permanently limit my account. No warning was given that this would happen and when I went to use it I was told I can view my account but cannot actually use the service due to my account being limited. Spoke to three people who all said "don't worry just create a new account". No one seemed to acknowledge the fact that this is bad customer service as they are providing no warning that this will happen and they are also providing no way to rectify the problem.
I personally think they need to give people a warning and allow them time to solve the issue rather than jumping straight to a permanent limit. They also won't tell you the reason for limiting your account. The only reason I can think of is the fact that I got a new card and haven't had time to change this information in my account yet or the fact that I haven't used this service in a while. I think it's terrible customer service to just permanently limit people's accounts so they cannot use it properly without warning. All they needed to do was send an email saying please update your card or log on to the service every month to keep your account active. However, they chose to do nothing. I had to find out that my account was limited when I logged on one day and it is irreversible so basically there is nothing anyone can do to solve it.
The staff just kept repeating themselves by saying just get a new account and check the website for details. They did not actually answer questions efficiently or take any responsibility for the poor operations. No 'sorry' or anything of such to acknowledge feelings either and some staff seemed rather stand off ish too.
Overall very disappointed in both the systems in place as well as the staff's actions. I will not be using this service again.

I had made a purchase using Paypal

I had made a purchase using Paypal, made my payment and then returned the item. Had a credit from the company I purchased from, in addition to the same payment I made. Now all of a sudden the credit is gone. I had purchased something else, and returned it. Got that credit, and Paypal thinks that's the same credit/transaction. IT IS NOT. Now the credit of over $70. has disappeared! Never using Paypal again, ripoffs! And they have the credit card or paypal, not one and the same. Confusing for customers.

PayPal sided with the Seller when I opened a dispute with them and they sided with the seller although I had proof in abundance!! I then raised a charge back with my bank (never done this before) who agreed I was owed the money 301.00 and refunded through PayPal .
PayPal sent a threatening email basically saying drop the chargeback, log into PayPal and pay the money or they will report to credit brokers, it will seriously effect my credit rating and I will no longer be able to use PayPal..who threatens people like this .. absolutely disgusting

Paypal charged me the paypal fees without consent

Paypal charged me £131 for an overseas order using the paypal conversion rate, without my consent and I have paid for foreign currency transactions for years now and know to set to my own card transaction rate.

However, this time, without my consent at all, paypal just charged my card using that rate.

So I cancelled my order and got a refund, but the refund was for the amount without the paypal conversion rate, the ai assistant is useless and it's impossible to get ahold of a person.

Do not use paypal, they will scam you

I have always trusted PayPal to protect…

I have always trusted PayPal to protect customers when there is a billing dispute, but my recent experience was extremely disappointing. I filed a dispute after Guardio charged me over $200 in addition to my monthly subscription.

I submitted email evidence showing that Guardio had acknowledged the charge and promised to reimburse me. Despite providing that proof, PayPal still ruled in the merchant’s favor.

Guardio has not honored the refund they originally promised, has since changed their position by offering only a partial refund, and now they are no longer responding to my calls or messages.

I expected PayPal to give proper consideration to the evidence I submitted and to protect customers when a merchant fails to follow through on a promised refund. Unfortunately, that was not my experience, and it has left me with much less confidence in PayPal’s dispute resolution process.

PAYPAL SUPPORTING SCAMS

To the PayPal Disputes Team,

I am writing to formally appeal the decision made regarding my claim referenced above, which you have refused based on tracking information provided by the seller.

I want to clarify the full circumstances of this transaction:

- I placed the order on 2 June 2026, and received no updates or information about its delivery for several weeks.

- I contacted the seller repeatedly during this time – first and second emails received no proper answers regarding when I would receive my item.

- It was only after I sent my third email raising concerns that the parcel was suddenly marked as delivered on the very same day – after 3–4 weeks of silence. This timing is extremely suspicious.

- Since then, I have sent multiple further emails asking the seller to provide a valid tracking number, proof of delivery, or photos showing where the item was left. They have never provided any of this information to me. Until I open the case with paypal. The images they provided are not from my address

I submitted clear evidence to you showing my email correspondence proving this lack of communication and transparency. It is deeply concerning that my evidence has been dismissed simply because the seller provided tracking details to PayPal after the fact – information they delayed several day and sent fake files and emails stating "attached files" with no attachments. Images attached.

This decision feels like PayPal is supporting untrustworthy and potentially fraudulent sellers rather than protecting buyers. I have experienced multiple similar issues with sellers based in China, and it appears this kind of behaviour is allowed to continue without proper checks.

I am extremely disappointed that PayPal did not properly review the full context or evidence I provided. If this decision stands, I will no longer feel secure using PayPal for purchases, as it offers no actual buyer protection in situations like this.

I ask that you reopen this investigation and properly consider the evidence and timeline I have outlined. I am happy to provide all additional email correspondence to support my case.

- Amount: £151.20 GBP

I look forward to reviewing your response and a fair resolution.

Sincerely,
Joao Carvalho

I had ordered several t-shirts from an international company which everything could fit a child not mayself.

I had ordered several t-shirts from a company that is in another country. Up until recently, when I filed a complaint, it was fast and exhaustive.
The PayPal experience was horrible. PayPal kept the communications between that company and PayPal, and since I had no idea what the company had said, there was no way I could find out what their problem happened to be at the time. I ordered a hoodie and 6 T-shirts. Since my shoulder size is larger than the average male, I needed the shirts in size 3XL. What I got was shirts that could fit maybe a 6th. I took pictures with my normal 3XL t-shirt, and I was told that there was nothing wrong. Sending the wrong size is definitely the wrong item that should have been sent. If I paid for a wrong-sized clothing item, I could either get a refund or get the correct size. Neither happened in this case. PayPal used to be an excellent company to deal with when dealing with items that one has to pay for in advance. When something is damaged goods that one cannot even get over their head without cutting, cutting it is damaged goods. Since I see that PayPal does nothing when someone complains, I can understand why they have a 1.3 rating. Seeing the responses, that is a bit too high for the new service that company has shown. Too bad one cannot put a zero rating for the new service model that they are showing. After 17 years, I will find a new service away from this company. Now to find other places so I can rate this company.

Paypal will not refund against ILLEGAL…

Paypal will not refund against ILLEGAL and Counterfeit items, which I received from Printerval company. I sent paypal all the pictures and sent them links to paypals thousands of bad reviews. Yet they are making us sweat it for over 5 weeks now, playing games. I asked them why would they give the seller a chance as they would a normal seller considering Printerval are crooks. All they could reply is trust the process and wait.

Ive been with Paypal for 20 years and was very happy with the service until April 2026 when my pay in 3 account was fraudulently accessed. A company called DB Vertrieb a German company who sells travel tickets was used to purchase tickets using my PayPal Pay in 3 Account. I have been in touch with Paypal but I just cant access the right person to explain what happened all I get is this stupid automated system or some one who is telling me he / she woll sort it out that they never do. Extremely poor service beware of this company as to access my account it must have been an inside job.
