The whole experience of buying a hat from this company was exceptional. Ordering was simple and allowed for personal taste and customization. Subsequently, I was kept informed of the progress of my order, including pictures of the hat being made. PHD also supplied videos about the company and the process of hat making, which was so much more involved than I had imagined. So much goes into the production of Panama hats that I am amazed that they cost as little as they do. Finally, the hat itself is so much better than any Panama hat that I have had previously - styling, fit and finish and a feeling of quality.

Great follow up after an initial error. I received the wrong hat but it was a great hat so I decided to keep it. In compensation, they gave me a good deal on a second hat. I was very pleased with an innovation in the second hat. It has a little piece of foam inside the crease of the crown. This should prevent cracking of the hat in that location which I’ve had a problem with on other straw hats.

I’ve read some of the negative reviews about PHD and it sounds like a lot of overreaction about the service and product. I have purchased two hats from PHD a Montecristi Super Fino Classic Fedora and a Havana and on both occasions received excellent service. I really suggest that you watch the videos that are posted on PHD’s Website. The workmanship and amount of time to produce a hat is amazing. If you just want a run of the mill cheap copy of a Panama Fedora then go to a street vendor in Cozumel. That’s what I originally did and it just spiked my interest in getting an original. PHD has always kept me informed of any delays and always updated me with photos of the progress of my hats. The first one was a custom Fedora that I gave specific dimensions for and the order took some time to fulfill and it was well worth the wait. The Havana was an “in stock” hat, but it’s not 100% completely finished when you purchase it and it takes time to accomplish that. PHD has always been accessible for questions and updates. My experience with this company has always been positive and trouble free.

I finally received my long awaited hat and can confirm that it was worth the waiting. The quality is so fine and uniform. You can tell the skill since the pattern is uniform all over the hat. If it was me doing it i would start great and end but bad at the end but not here it is so consistent. It takes so much patience and dedication to do this! I really love the way they kept sending me photos of the manufacturing journey. Mad me more excited and appreciate the hat more. I ordered an additional rim from braided horse hair make sure you do not miss out. The hat came exactly as per the size instructions I provided. Also the full grain leather from the inside is excellent protection against sweat.
In addition to the above the service is amazing. I sent them email about the delivery method and the took the feedback very positively. I will order again for sure!

The Panama hat I received was of excellent quality, fit perfectly, and was delivered quickly. I was kept updated through the process and even received photos of my hat as it was being built. I couldn't be happier.

This is the second hat I've purchased from PanamaHats Direct.
These are the genuine article- habdmade in the traditional manner. They are not inexpensive, but sales are frequent. There is some lag time from order to shipping to recipte of the product. Once ordered, they have to finish the hat- install the sweatband and hatband, finish shaping, etc. They also bulk ship from Ecuador to the US, to simply the customs process. Once in the US, the hats are sent to the individual customers. So, expect it to take 2-4 weeks ti recieved your hat.
Service is first rate, and communication is excellent

Just received my second hat in about 10 years from Panama Hats Direct. Ten years shows the quality, and longevity of their hats and how happy I am to return to the same makers. This latest hat had to be made bespoke due to my in-between-headsize; well worth the little extra time to wait for its arrival.

I ended up getting the wrong hat size due to an issue on their website, but Casey worked with me to get the issue resolved.

There was a bit of an issue in the returns portion of the transaction as it took some time to get the correct merchandise to me, but overall I'm happy with the transaction, and the product I received.

Ordered a hat and was to travel in a few days. Ordered the DHL expedited. After the order was placed I got emails with pictures of my hat and the updated timeline. I advised the person (US based phone) that I needed it ASAP and it arrived in 4 days. The quality exceeded my expectations and I can begin my travels. Totally unexpected customer experience.

I own over thirty hats and will not deal with any other company or person for my panama's. A word of caution, there are others trying to make you believe they are the "Panama Hat Direct Co." by misspelling the name and using it as theirs or by using the words in front of their Mall Company. DON'T BE FOOLED. Casey is a honorable man, his prices are very fair and he treats the artisans and customers honestly. Truly none better.
