Used to be justifiable in their ridiculously inflated prices given their TOM points system, now the restriction on points able to be spent renders the company not worth buying from. They are shamelessly money gouging and charging upwards of $250+ for a 1/7 scale but hey, at least that’s $10 worth of points you can’t spend! They also ran out of stock of a figure I purchased months before and neglected to tell me until I asked. So that money was gone from my bank account for a very long time. They’re also charging $100 shipping because of COVID on all my preorders. Very greedy company, just want the figures I preordered and then I’m never buying from them again.
Not only as store, but as a Company is awful.
Regardless about the buying, not sure how bad is it.
But a backed a project regarding of Sharin no Kuni game, the game was promised to be released in October 2017, and now Febrary 2021 still nothing about it, the Company gave a last update 10 months ago, the company Tokyo Otaku Mode is a mess in general.
Fraud
I have never bought a product from here yet have attempted to take £0.77 luckily declined by my bank but have so be careful they will try take money from you even if you haven't bought a product from them
Good Figures, Bad Service
Pro: They stock a lot of figures and do a lot of pre-orders for new figures. Items arrive well packed and not damaged.
Cons: They are much more expensive than the retail price. All items come out on sale but that sale price is marked up. The more expensive the item, the more markup. Amiami and other sites sell at retail price. Also, they take forever to ship items. I don't mean shipping international is slow based on method, I mean on average from the time you order or an item comes in stock, it's like a month before they even get to shipping it. They are very disorganized when it comes to orders, consolidating shipping, or systematizing pre-orders or changes. I've had to send multiple emails trying to ask why they ship single items one at a time on the same order with the same release month and got back "it's because only one item was in stock at the time". If they could work on their service the over price premium might be worth it to buy from them.

They tried to use my old credit card to charge $1, it was declined of course, but they are sneaky and try to take a $1 here and there and hope nobody notices. BE AWARE!
False Advertising
Bought a keychain that they claimed to be free, ended up being over $20 because of shipping and other hidden fees that I did not see until I reviewed the receipt emailed to me after the purchase.
They also have a terrible mobile site that’s difficult to navigate and view your purchases. When I logged onto my computer, I found out they wouldn’t let me cancel my preorders. When I bought the keychain, it said nothing about being unable to cancel. DO NOT PREORDER FROM THIS SITE THEY ARE SCAMMERS
Beware this company!! They withhold preorders!!
If I could give 0 stars I would! Pre-ordered a collectors figure over a year and a half ago. I waited patiently through manufacturer delays and then the Tokyo Otaku Mode delays due to COVID-19. Got contacted asking for an extra $50USD to ship my item and agreed to send the increase to get my collectors item. The figure was shipped with the documentation incorrectly filled out so customs rejected the item entry into my country. I asked Tokyo Otaku Mode to reship the figure but they claimed they are not able to reship items??
Since then I have been in a long debate via email and twitter with the company. The company is publicly lying on twitter making claims that they "would manually reship the figure" but then saying in email they cannot do that. They tried to push their "premium subscription" service on me in the middle of this all. They also have accused me of refusing the package when tracking clearly shows the closest city the item made it to in relation to where I live still had an ocean between it and my city. They also have tried to lie claiming I only paid $10 in shipping when I paid the $10 AND the additional $50, and it was the same agent who charged me the additional shipping fee who claimed I only paid $10. They still have 100% of my funds and are withholding my item. As a result I will have to research the legal options available to me and have opened a formal dispute via paypal against this company. The collectors item is long sold out and can no longer be replaced.
Avoid them at all costs for your purchases. I have never had a company lie and treat me so horribly.
Solid, no complaints!
Bought a number of figures from this site and while you'll pay a bit more, if you can nail the $150 mark you get free shipping which has been really nice in retrospect.
I purchased something from a competing site recently and I'm on email #7 with them after I paid $25 for shipping, but now they want $90- also no refunds. Another site I saw would only quote shipping when it shipped, so months later you might find they want 30 or 80 bucks for shipping. Which, thankfully Otaku Mode hasn't done.
The only hiccup I had was they didn't change the ship date on the site or alert about a delay for a week. Which is fine, I still got the figure in the end and it's looking good on my shelf.
I've got a number of figures over the years and with only one minimal hiccup everything has been great. Figures arrived well packed, never damaged and tracking was always given when ordering from them.
Highly recommend
Been using this for around 2 years 4.5 stars
I've gotten probably over 20 figures from Tokyo Otaku Mode. I've never had any problems besides a long shipping date. Also TOM premium has helped me soooooo much, especially with all the figures I've gotten. They also do giveaways if you have any tom points. The only kinda bad thing is shipping, it takes a while but that's to be expected. Overall in my opinion this is the best place to buy figures.

I ordered a model kit which included a digital item code from Tokyo Otaku Mode as a Christmas present. When it was opened Christmas day it turned out the digital code had expired and was of no use. I reported this issue to them across several emails and pointed out their website description clearly states that a digital code is included. The responses were nothing but empty apologies and they had no interest in addressing the issue for myself or future customers, basically saying it's not their problem. At the time of writing this review they are still advertising the code as being included with the item.
TOM premium SCAM
Tokyo Otaku automatic renew for TOM premium is nothing but a SCAM, it automatically renew and charge without asking any confirmation . Very ill way of gaining USD 14.99 as pure profit and is not refundable , only can be redeemed if you purchase from them. it is like force buying. I got cheated of USD 59.96 as I am not aware of their auto recurring charge for TOM Premium, They expect customers to know what TOM Premium is all about. They can keep my USD 59.96 for all i care. What an ill way of making money, not make but steal my money without me knowing and refuse to refund when I found out. They assume that you had red their email after they sent it. What if i have 200 emails coming in everyday then? What if I abandon my email account after purchase and forgotten all about it ? What if i suddenly had an accident and pass away? So this automatic recurring charges still go on? nothing but a total CHEATER / SCAM . SHAME ON YOU TOKYO OTAKU !!!
Overall a decent company but get a bad rap for things they cannot control.
Overall TOM is a great company and a good variety of products. Although most of their selection is for pre-adult audience it is not that that big of a problem and I am fine with that. I have pre-ordered tons of figures with them and of course there are always a few snags here and there... I know if may not be their fault since they do not decide when the pre-ordered products get shipped out. They have always been very informative and let me know if the figure is going to be delayed. Most of the pre-orders are a "second or more release" of a figure and I could buy one used. However, I am very picky with my figures and I don't like them second hand. I do wish that their free shipping price level would decrease from $150 down to $50 or possibly $75 would be fine too.
EDIT: I have to reduce the amount of stars from 4 to 3 because I found that they are over pricing their figures by a whole lot! A figure that I am looking at costs 156 dollars including shipping on amazon.co.jp (pre-order just like TOM) while TOM is trying to charge 239 dollars with discounted shipping. Almost a $100 difference in price. I just cant support that.
Unsatisfactory
My first two times buying from TOM were good. Got my items for a good price and on time. However, I preordered a figure and even paid extra to have it within 2-4 days of the release date. This was December 2018. It’s now OCTOBER 2019 and I haven’t recieved it. The delivery date has gotten pushed back 4 times on the site. First May, then July, then September, now October. I’ve contacted them twice and they offered a refund, but I really just want my figure so I keep waiting.
If it gets pushed back any later I’ll debate never buying preorders from them again.
good site if you like smashed packages…
good site if you like smashed packages and terrible support
Bad Bad Bad!!!
If i knew this from beginning i wouldn't have risked giving them my credit card information, they will rub your money & use it without your knowledge, I've been automatically signed up for auto renewal without my permission even though I've not even subscribed to their service
when i first joined the site a year ago it was somehow reliable & usable as items I've purchased or pre-ordered would ship & arrive in time, & their email support was really responding back then, however as of lately, it seems like after they've gained the fame & popularity, they would not really care about screwing up a customer, i've been very frustrated at how bad & slow their customer service is, they used to respond very quickly but now they don't even care to respond if you ever get a problem
on top of that it seems like the quality shipping have lowered compared to last year I've dealt with them, I've gotten at least one faulty figure so I've had to return it, I've also suffered from delayed delivery/shipping from purchased & pre-ordered orders, & the result was is? just getting email about them been cancelled, it's like i'm wasting my time for weeks just to wait to hear an update about them, & well they would refund you, but not fully, they will partly refund you excluding the shipping cost so you are basically wasting money for nothing since you can't get your refund in full
I think i can easily say i'm switching to AmiAmi & leaving tom for good so i won't have to deal with delayed & unprofessional service
Trusted shop but inconsistent
I've been shopping at TOM for years now, and I am confident about always getting my product. Their CS email response is always fairly quick, within 48 hours. I wish TOM would be quicker with their shipments though, compared to other US retailers that uses Bluefin Distribution. An item that releases in Japan in January, you will see other people get their products from US sellers usually around February (the delay is due to shipment from Japan to Bluefin, then from Bluefin to retailer). But sometimes TOM doesn't ship out until April.
Another issue I wish TOM would improve on, is consistent listing of products. For example, I collect some Saint Seiya Cloth Myth. TOM will list products A, B, and C from the line (and I bought them from TOM), but then never list items D and E. If I waited for TOM I would have missed out on the items I wanted.
These issues aside, it is a good shop with good fair prices. The customer service is good and responsive.
this was fun uwu
Used to be good at first
Used to be good at first
in the recent months, they are starting to get worse, making me lose trust to rely on another site instead, items have been getting sent back to their warehouses, and here i am just waiting months to hear an update about the delayed delivery of my figures just to hear that they are been sent back
Absolutely unacceptable!
Sent me an item with a broken box
Sent me an item with a broken box. Shipper was not broken at all, meaning they knowingly sent an item with a broken box to me. Will not exchange it, offered store credit. Don't buy from them if you care about the boxes of your figures.
Solid place to buy anime merch
The few issues I've encountered over the years were quickly resolved by support. The support staff don't bother with too many pleasantries and we've never had difficultly communicating whereas I've had trouble with language barriers on other retailers.
They package items extremely well. Some may find the amount of padding they use wasteful but I personally prefer that my $150+ order has ample protection. At the time of this review, I've received 10 shipments with no damaged goods.
You're bound to find cheaper prices elsewhere but Tokyo Otaku Mode does not sell bootlegs, and more importantly, tell you what shipping will cost at the time of (pre-)order. This is nice because shipping invoices from Japanese retailers months after you placed your order can be a very unpleasant surprise.
They also run a lot of coupons which help sweeten the deal.
