Exceptional craftsmanship with fantastic communication. James worked with us throughout; initially guiding us through our requirements to come up with a really spectacular design that was also practical and we were then kept updated throughout the build. Our final piece is spectacular and a real focal point in our home that everyone has complemented. Final delivery did take longer than originally anticipated but a lot of this was due to exceptional circumstances out of James’ control and James kept us informed throughout, even going the extra mile to deliver at the first opportunity so a massive 5* from me! Thank you James.

I recommend James 100%.  As well as producing beautiful bespoke carpentry, he also is extremely practical in coming up with cost efficient solutions, buying second hand items of eBay (with him doing all the legwork).  In addition, he is very efficient, totally keeps you abreast of timing/what is going on AND nothing is too much trouble.

Love the table, chair and bench set that James made. He’s super patient, easy to deal with and the finished products are excellent quality. Really happy. Thank you!

James has done an excellent repair on an old Christmas candle carousel table decoration . It now works perfectly . I can highly recommend his work .

We were very pleased with our bespoke swing seat ,James spent a lot of time sourcing the materials in difficult circumstances with supply issues and created a well made and sturdy swing seat with high quality workmanship and fixings.It feels like it will last a long time and stands out from the mass produced wooden swing seats with its powder coated frame and slated wooden seat. Highly recommended.

I can’t thank James enough for making my bespoke oak table. James is unbelievable at what he does, I knew what I wanted in my head and James bought it to life. My table was created bespoke to me using only the highest quality materials but came in at a fraction of the price of similar style on the high street! James made our gorgeous kitchen table for me many years ago. He was therefore an obviously choice when I needed a work station built for my new extension! He did not disappoint, built me a beautiful piece of bespoke furniture that everyone has commented on!

We had our garden table delivered yesterday and we are over the moon with the work James has put in. We have spent so long searching for the right furniture, a friend recommended James, which has resulted in a table exactly how we wanted! The options available are endless, any coloured legs or stain you want. The table only took three weeks, it would have been sooner but I changed my mind about the wood and colour part way through. Customer service has been amazing and we wouldn’t hesitate to have furniture made by James again!

I can't recommend Old Things New enough. From design through to delivery the service is top notch. We now have a number of pieces, ranging from a desk through to a fully functioning bar. We will be using Old Things New going forward, just as soon as I can find an excuse.

James has made us the most beautiful dining table. I have had my heart set on a circular table for years but never quite found what I wanted. I came across an advert for Old Things New in Modern Gardens magazine and looked at their website and saw the perfect table - a previous project James had done. I commissioned him to make one very similar but slightly bigger and different colour legs. The leg colour didn't quite come out as we expected but not James's fault and he helped us work it out to find a solution - it was resprayed and now perfect!
James is a lovely man to deal with and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending him to anyone who'd like something a little bit different and handmade. :-)

I had a set of plastic ratten furniture, everybody has them, after 5 years of service the plastic ratten become brittle and would break into tiny pieces. Unwilling to get rid because the cushions were still fine and inspired by money for nothing I started to look for a upcycling option. In Dec 2017 I came across an advert for James company in Modern Gardens magazine and sent him a email with a brief outline. Within hours James had come back to me and thought my proposal was a good idea and would be happy to take it on.
In early January he collected them and took them away. We had removed all the plastic ratten and a lot of the staples that had held the strands in place, but not all of them. But James said that was fine he would deal with them, bear in mind each strand had two staples in it.
James kept me updated throughout the process, sending me reports and photos. He sand blasted the aluminium frames to remove loose paint. Then he drilled the frames for the hardwood slats he had selected, these are the seat bases and backs. Then he had the frames powder coated in black. Having drilled the slats and treated them with oil he then attached them. In total there where 10 chairs in the set.
The result is incredible - I wish I could put pictures on here. All my friends are so jealous and I have a set of garden furniture that I will get at least 10 years more life out of. James transferred my vision into reality and very quickly. He is definitely a hard worker - I know that from staple removal alone, I had done some and it was hand-breaking.

Really great experience working with James. He was patient and super helpful and really took the time to explain all my options to me. His design was spot on and his turn around time was perfect! I ordered an incredible dining table and bench and am very pleased with it. A delight to deal with and would certainly make something with him again!

James is an exceptionaly talented workman. However he is even more than that, His customer service is outstanding and his honesty is appreciated - as then I was able to make informed choices. The table and bench is stunning, we cannot stop looking at it.

We asked James to build us three bespoke tables for our new coffee shop. We were going for a contemporary industrial vibe and he nailed it. The workmanship is spot on. He's very easy to work with, has a quick turnaround and his pricing very reasonable. His delivery team were also professional and able to work around our busy schedule.
